Title: Hit the button on a Evanix Blizzard Long in .22 from PA
Post by: Carl on August 21, 2010, 03:59:57 PM
After looking and reading and looking. It looks like it will be the blizzard. I am thinking that it will pick up where the Mrod left off. Just a few things that I would like to find, 1. Bipod 2. Sling and 3. Scope. It also looks like I will have to look into another backstop and trap as well. I have a small metal one that is rated for pistol and rimfire carts but it is small.
I have been searching several different forums/blogs/vids for any tunes etc...
If you have any advice, tunes or know where I can find some of this stuff I would like to hear it.
Thanks

Hey Carl, cogratulations, thats a FINE looking gun. Bet you can't wait.
Heres my thought on the items you are still searching for.
Bipod. For the money, you can't beat the adjustale bipod from walmart. It's only about 20 bucks, the legs go from  9-14", it's very light and works great.
Sling.  I love the vero vercelli(sp?) stretchy sling sold by different mass merchants but i'm finding cool custom made slings on ebay for less money. I just ordered a sling for the mrod, custom colored woven parachute line cut to 31". includes swivels for about $35.00.  The guy is making it today and shipping it monday. Anyways, ebays got hundreds/ thousands of slings.

Scope. It's just something worth considering but i just started using a couple of non AO scopes by leapers and Bariska that are pre set parallaxed for 35 yards.. I'll never turn an AO (adjustable objective) on a scope again.. well, i will but not on a pcp gun.  Hope this is of some help.. Jeff

I think that I have the sling thing going already, I have a leather USGI and another web USGI sling. Just no swivel mounts. I guess that I will either drill and tap or look or a clamp style for the air res.
The other thing is if no one bites on my Mrod then I will just strip it and move things over to the Blizz.

You will have to replace the inside cages on the spacer in the baffels, and that's sooner better than later, I'll take pictures of what I did,...look out for the thread

O.K. sorry i can't get the baffels out anylonger, so I try explain what I did.

I took out the inner cages of the hair curlers tipe spacers (those break and will give inconsistent shooting when the pellts clip a broken piece)

I than got to pieces of 1/2"  outside diameter PVC tubing ( will need a bit of sanding to be able to slip them inside the haircurlers, I than drilled as many holes possible in the tubing, put it all back together,...and that's it :)

N Pirate, so now I am thinking that the hair curlers are a soft baffle. Right? I did see a screen/melonite baffle for the m-rod. It looks like I have some experimenting to do. I just wish that I had a DB meter. I am already half deaf from so much time in Engine rooms.

The actual Baffels in The Rainstorm are Brass and concave, much better quality and design, than he Mauraderspacer  o keep the baffels in place, the removal of the inner cage and subbing it with a PVc tubing well drilled just assures no interferance with the pellet going thru.

I'll take pictures of the old inner cages and post them tomorrow.

Cool, look forward to that. On another note, anyone know if there is enough meat on the stock for sling attachments or maybe a clamp on boss to go around the res.

if you look at my Rainstorm, I put sling attachments, you just need to stay a bit back about 3/4'" from the manometer

Here's  pictures and explanation of what I did to the baffel sistem

O.K. here we go,

so, the actual baffels are of very good solid brass design, however the haircurler spacers aren't, you will need to take out the most inner cage because it gets clipped by pellets breaking and causing innacuracy.

once you have the inner cages out you get a 1/2" outside diameter PVC pipe (will need some sanding to take it down a bit to get it to slip inside the haircurlers) than you drill as many holes as you can without compromising the integrity of the pipe, just slip it in, put the baffels back in the shroud and you'll never have inaccuracy problems again  ;D ;D

here pictures of the inner cages and PVC pipe

What do you think about using the Marauder baffles in the Rainstorm?

Some guy on the yellow already did so, and said it worked out well for him.

Sniper that is another option.
Pirate, what is the resivoir cap for your rainstorm?
Also, what are the main differences between the rainstorm and blizzard long/short. Just looking at them the firecontrol is the same as well at the res, but the barrel/shroud assy is different.

I have forgotten which exact board it was on, but on one of the airgun forums, a Blizzard owner said that the baffles in the Blizzard are not exactly the same as the ones in the Rainstorm.  SO, there is a chance that the baffle setup in your new Rainstorm will be fine and not need any modification.  You'll have to look at them and see what is actually in there.

I purchased a Blizzard .22 calibre thumbhole from a seller on these forums. Best Air Rifle I have shot. Compared to an AA 410s, Marauder, RWS 48, 350 magnum and 34P.

Lots of power. Fun to shoot. I get 40 good shots from a fill. The workmanship is very good, on mine the equal of the AA410s. The stock is really nice and well finished.

One very nice shooter that is comfortable and has the power to take down a coyote. I hope yours is as nice as the one I bought.

the Maurader baffels aren't all that good, I open them up yesterday and have allready an idea on how to improve them ( will post about it once I get to it) that's why the actual report on the Maurader is louder than the Rainstorm.

The problem is in the spacers of the Rainstorm, they get clipped by the pellet resulting in innaccurate shooting, otherwise the baffel really silence the gun good, the ping is the main noise ( will work on that soon :) )

Estimated arrival Aug 25th. The leapers 6x24 mil dot scope, mount and wheel are looking like the 26th. Just in time for a little cool down to 97 degrees outside.

Well, I guess that I will be finding out tommorow sometime. It has been said that the rainstorm and blizzard baffles are different. I have been doing searches but so far no cigar.
