me and the better half are gonna make a day trip to Bristol tomorrow to do some casual shopping and there's a bass pro , cabelas and dicks there and i'm gonna look at scope caps for my new CP 3-12x44 SF scope . gonna take it with me so i can make sure i get a good snug fit in case i find something me and my wallet like . was wondering what you folks use or recommend . my CP came with the better than nothing rubber band type and i think i want something that flips up and i'm debating on clear/see through vs just black ... i figure anything clear enough to somewhat accurately see through is gonna be way above what i'll want to pay . looks like butler creek is gonna be about my only choice and they get good comments on youtube , but i've been disapointed buying based on youtube videos a few times .... sooo ...... what's y'alls opinions/suggestions ?
thanks

I've been satisfied with all my Butler Creek caps.

The Butler Creek "flip ups" are inexpensive from Amazon and LOOK OK for the price..........

I have a Chinese Discovery scope which came factory with flip up caps and I stripped 'em off and replacing them with Hawke "plastic caps with stretchy bands" type........

Stretchy band types are better for when you go the range and really shoot. The flip up ones are good for hunting in the field.
When you go to range or shoot from a bench rest, just take them off and shoot. When done put them back on...
The flip up ones that came on my MTC scope-which I love-always rotate when I shoot. The front one rotated so much that it came off. I have yet to put it back on. :o

PS if Butler Creek is to dear for your wallet, look at the Vortex ones. They are a good 30% cheaper than Buttler Creek. Forget about the see through ones!!!! ;)

Yogi covered all the bases. I have Butler Creek on all my hunting pb rifles and most of my hunting air rifles and they do great. Drips from trees will always land squarely on my lenses while hunting especially early mornings.
Stretchy Band types work great in my soft cases to keep dust and lint off the lenses.
(I have yet to see the purpose of the plastic yellow/clear lenses on the stretchy ones.)

I prefer the rubber band "bikini" style. I have bought and tried to use the flip up's, but rarely do they fit perfect, and get in the way, especially if you have a front adjustable objective. ;)

thanks folks . i'll stick with the freebies for a while

I prefer flip up caps. I do a lot of hunting in the snow and rain. While walking with the rifle shouldered the caps keep the crud out. While sitting, the rifle sits level so the caps can be open. As for clear verses dark caps, doesn’t really make a difference. Clear caps will get wet and spotted just like the bare scope lens would. So seeing through them isn’t a reality. I think the same with my binoculars. Flip off caps on till I need them. Plus it keeps the chew spit out of them!

Take a look at this outfit as another option.

I have run Butler Scope covers on everything that has glass on it, rifles, pistols and spotting scopes and glasses,
for the last 30+ yrs, with NO problems, except I have broken a couple of them when going thru the heavy brush on the Honda ATV.
That is the first item bought for any new glass I own, as the extra fine NV dust will destroy the glass surfaces, in a heartbeat. ;)
Tried the clear/yellow ones, which didn't hold up, went back to the black BC caps.......
Plus I put a self sticky white dot, that just fits inside the cover lips, with the range/yardage info on it inside the rear scope cover,
when you flip it open, all the info is right there and readily available, when needed etc.
