Title: UTG 44mm SWAT vs Centerpoint Spectrum FFP on RWS34
Post by: JeffB1961 on October 03, 2019, 12:19:18 PM
i've got a centerpoint wally world 4-16x40 on my .177 34 and it's ok for the price , but it does get the white fog more often than i'd like . i'm not a critical shooter but it does bug me and i'm thinking of upgrading . wally world has the UTG 4-16x44 for $121 and they also carry the 4-12x44 spectrum for $147 . both are more than the $100ish i wanted to budget so i'm really pushing it on the spectrum . i mostly shoot paper and pest around the house (luv defending the dogs food dish from rats coming from the surrounding cow fields) i want side focus which both have . i don't use or care about illuminated reticle . i do like the higher power on the UTG but the spectrum has a etched glass reticle and is FFP . the reticle on the spectrum looks upside down to me and i prefer the dot style on the UTG between the two . never used a FFP scope but looking at videos it looks like something that could be useful ...

interested in y'alls opinion on these being used on my 34 springer . also ..... is FFP mostly a gimmick on small targets at 50 plus yards since the dot spacings get so far apart at higher mags ? thanks , jeff

IMHO I'd trust the UTG on a springer more than the center point. Not sure what the warranty is like for the center point but the UTG warranty is excellent from what I've read.

The dot spacing remains to scale regardless of magnification or the appearance of increasing distance in high magnification.   Focus on a target of known size and zoom in and out and watch the dot spacing very carefully.

Yes on low magnification you get a duplex with the dots run together.... no one reticle range finds on low magnification so that's a non-issue for me.

If you use the dots for hold over/under, they remain the same for all magnifications as they are all different except zero magnification on SFp rifle scopes.

BTW IMOP Both these rifle scopes are just too big for a RWS34.  ;)

I have both of these scopes. Let me start by saying I have never really cared for CP scopes. The spectrum ffp is a completely different breed though. Side my side, with the two I have, the spectrum is my choice by a long shot. It's clearer and lighter. Doesn't have quite the magnification, but for out too 100yrds it does great. As for how it will stand up to the Springer, it's an airgun rated scope so you should be fine. If not it has a lifetime warranty, above that they will give you your money back if you don't like it! I would check the price straight from crosman though with the discount code and free shipping on Friday. If you can wait it will probably be on the black Friday sale, it was last year and if it is this year I will buy another.

i apologize if i seem to be beating a dead horse ... but . i found the utg 3-12x44 30mm swat with glass etched reticle for $125 . am i correct in assuming (i know ....) that it is a better optic than the centerpoint spectrum

thanks for the swift reply swamphunter . just to clarify ...... is your utg a etched glass version ? is the clarity the same between the UTG etched version and the wire accushot SWAT versions ? no disrespect intended ....

None taken, I have the UTG  4-16x44 swat.  I thought that was the scope you were referring to in the beginning. I also have the older bug buster. I prefer the spectrum to both. My personal opinion only of course.

you are correct .... but i found the 3-12 etched version in my price range . originally i asked about the 4-16 with their standard wire mil-dot . i'm really not feeling the spectrums wonky reticle ....... but i don't want another scope that gets that white haze/fog at higher mags .
