Does anyone know where I can buy simple quality finished wood grips at a reasonable price for Crosman 2240 and 1377/1322 air pistols?
I'd rather not have to finish them myself because I don't know much about staining/finishing wood, and I don't want to ruin them.
Thanks,
-Whirly

I found unfinished grips on line on Ebay (it's through Alchemy Airwerks) but he also sells finished.
Just looked again..he sells Black Lacqure finished grips.

If you are looking for real quality =31.[100011427128572%2C%22intro_card%22%2C%7B%7D]]https://www.facebook.com/MCAirguns/?__xts__[0]=31.[100011427128572%2C%22intro_card%22%2C%7B%7D] (https://www.facebook.com/MCAirguns/?__xts__[0) or direct https://maverickcustomairguns.com/product-category/custom-products/ (https://maverickcustomairguns.com/product-category/custom-products/) has the best IMHO
They are worth every penny of the asking price and that makes them a reasonable deal to me. Tom/Maverick makes them a flawless as they can be by choosing great wood and he has very HIGH standards for his workmanship too.

I second this
I put a set on my 1701 and they are fantastic!

wHIRLLY, don't worry about 'ruining' the grips. Theyre just wood. You can wipe on a little gel stain with a rag, let it dry, and give it a few thin coats of polyurethane out of a spray can.
gel stains are much more forgiving of grain and porosity. you can also use leather dye with great results.
To be more precise, you can rub on a 1st coat of stain and let it dry. This may "raise the grain" of the wood, so hit it with some 400 grit sandpaper, and restain. Use very thin coats of the spray on finish (you really dont even NEED it, at all), and when you like it, stop.
You can even just give it multiple coats of boiled linseed oil, or tru-oil. Especially on the checkering. have fun.

I think you ought to TRY it!!!!
(every time you pick up your favorite pistol, you'll think "Yep! *I* did that!"
p.s. an old toothbrush is a great way of cleaning out the crevices, and also applying stain back in to them.

You're right. I should learn how to do this.
Now, where to get affordable (around $30) wood grips?
Thanks!

Ebay!!

Ebay!!
My grips came from Alchemy, through Ebay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/READY-TO-FINISH-CHECKERED-WALNUT-WOOD-AMBI-GRIPS-for-Crosman-2240-1377-etc/292195381140?hash=item440833af94:g:1vAAAOSwJ0xaXCjB (https://www.ebay.com/itm/READY-TO-FINISH-CHECKERED-WALNUT-WOOD-AMBI-GRIPS-for-Crosman-2240-1377-etc/292195381140?hash=item440833af94:g:1vAAAOSwJ0xaXCjB)
He also has smooth,if you don't care for checkering. I gave mine a light coat of red mahogany and then spray poly, then buffed with a scotch brite.

It is Very interesting that they misspell "Crosman" by adding an extra s, it may be that they do not have permission to use the Crosman brand name????
If they are the supplier for the Custom Shop I am sure they would have a non-compete clause in their contract, that might be a way to get around it.

If you have ever bought a CCS gun you are in their data base and can buy a set direct from Crosman.

I got wood grips from this place before. Very well made and good finish.

This one was my favorite that I got as a gift for someone with small hands to shoot their pistol with.

If you want a really nice set of grips for your Crosman pistol I would say contact Vernon Austin. His grips are beautiful and can be made in many different types of wood. The fit and finish is awesome. I have several sets for several different guns and they fit my hands like a custom grip. His prices are VERY fair. Last pair of beautiful Birdseye Maple ones for my Crosman Mark1 were $65. He makes them for left or right handed or ambi which I got as I'm a lefty. He sells on ebay sometimes under the name Mysteryman. Or you can order them directly from him. I have 5 sets and all are flawless. He has a very reasonable turnaround time if they aren't in stock or you want a type of wood he doesn't have in stock.

They are nice, but THICK! Too thick IMO.
-
The set Vern made for me are thinner than those as I have med. sized hands. They are about the same thickness as the stock plastic ones.

:o When I just asked if he could/would make them thinner, he said I could sand them down if I wanted them thinner!
Maybe he was just having a bad day. I am not complaining because it help me search/find Maverick Stone aka Tom of Maverick Custom Airguns.

I requested that mine be as thick and long as possible since I have large hands. Mine fit me perfectly.
No complaints from me. VA was great to work with, and inexpensive considering the quality.

The ambi model is not so thick, I think.
I am waiting for my laminated parts from VA, too---no, they are not grips, just a cheekpiece and a buttpad for my Crosman build..
It takes time for them custom parts.
Tom's creations look fantastic!
Does he do laminates too?

My hands are big, xl glove size but I like grips that would be considered on the thinner side due to aesthetics, I would say I compromise for the looks of the grips. VA told me the grips would be prone to chipping if they were thinner so I search and found Maverick Custom Airguns, for me his grips are as perfect as any wood grips get and his prices are great for what you get. He makes batches often but runs out quickly too.
Looks like he has left hand and right hand grips $64.95 currently here are links.
