Title: Brocock S6 Fill Probe Dimensions
Post by: int3man on September 28, 2019, 12:51:47 AM
Hello and Help.  My shooting bag was stolen along with my fill adaptor for my Brocock Super 6 XL .  So I need dimensions so that I can machine one.  Thanks in advance for any and all assistance!

Reach out to Matt Helton

Edit - I can't remember if he's on the GTA or not. I've forwarded this thread to him and will reply if he sends the specs to me.

OK, I dug it out and measured it. I have 3 Brocock Probes (4.5mm & 5.5mm Contour Elites), and one for a Compatto Target (4.5mm), but that probe looks like it was salvaged from an 80 year old shipwreck (Thanks AoA, you tried...not very hard  :'( ).

I'll get the blueprint uploaded, but the lowdown is this:

Probe O-rings: AS568A-008 Durometer 70 (3/16" ID x 5/16" OD x 0.070" Yes, I know it's not metric, but this is what The Brothers Silcock use.)

The Stock Probe is machined from 12mm brass Hex Bar, and threaded 1/8" BSPP for a hose or fitting. If you are having one made, a machinist might balk at that thread. Here in the U.S.A., 1/8" BSPP is a rare bird in machine shops (9.6mm/ 0.378" OD x 28 Threads per inch with a Whitworth 55 degree thread form.)

Taps and Dies for 1/8" BSPP are commonly referred to as G-2 or G-02. Hydraulic Shops will be familiar with BSPP/Whitworth threads, but the 1/8" is unusual nowadays. Many old pressure sensors from British and older Japanese cars (Datsuns especially) commonly used this thread.

I would recommend using a 1/8" NPT thread to keep it simple.

Root: Reference Dimension -A-
Probe Length overall: -a- 28.0mm/  1.102"
Major Probe Diameter: -b- 7.42mm/ 0.292"
Minor Probe Diameter: -c- 6.25mm/ 0.246"
Minor O-Ring Groove Diameter: -d-  4.75mm/ 0.1875"
O-Ring Groove Width: -e- 1.75mm / 0.068"
Minor Probe Diameter Journal Length: 4.0mm
Minor Probe Diameter Journal Position: Starting at 15mm/ 0.591" from Root of Probe, ending at 19mm/ 0.748" from -A-
Alternative Position: 2mm to either side of Probe Outlet Cross Drill Location
Feature Callout: Both sides of Journal Chamfered/Bevelled to Major Probe Diameter at a 30-45 degree angle.
Recommended Method of Technique: Using a 60 degree Threading Tool, plunge cut and turn.
Probe Inlet 3.0mm/ 0.118" x 18.5mm/ 0.728" Deep from -A-
Probe Outlet Cross Drill Location: 17.0mm/ 0.669" (one side only)
Probe Outlet Diameter 3.0mm/ 0.118"
Inner (Root) O-Ring Groove starts at 11.0mm/ 0.433" from -A-
Outer (Tip) O-Ring Groove starts at 23.0mm/ 0.905" from -A-
Tip Chamfer/Bevel 0.08mm/ 0.031" at 45 degrees

Material: C360 Brass

check this place out.  i ordered and received an o-ring kit, 10mX1 to 1/2X20 muzzle adapter, magazine indexing claw, and another magazine from them a couple of weeks ago.  came in the mail rather quickly considering it's from across the pond.

Wow Thanks!  That is great I await your drawing.  I think I follow but I need to see where Axis A is.  I was planning on 1/8 npt as I have a die for that.  I just got the saddle repaired on the lathe this weekend.

BSPP and BSSP threads I'm familiar with.  I built Wheelchair lifts for Buses for 30 years.  I did the Hydraulics.
Thanks again.
