I am relatively new to the air gun world. A while back I picked up a Beeman R1 in a trade. I knew nothing about the Beeman, but it's heft, fit and finish, and overall quality, made me feel confident that I was getting the better end of the trade. Recently, I was trying to do some research to determine the value of this air gun. As I mentioned, it's a Beeman R1. It is in 20 caliber. But, every other Beemen I have tried to compare it to have a nice blued finish. Mine has a flat black textured finish. I have no reason to believe that it did not come from the manufacturer this way. But, in my limited experience, I have never seen another one like it.
Any information or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Hey James,
In my experience on the GTA, I've never seen an OEM, R1 with the finish as yours. However, there are always exceptions :D. If you got a good deal on a trade and it shoots well ... I wouldn't worry about the finish. Remember, your gun has the very nice, Goudy stock, which I feel are way better than subsequent versions.

Plus,
The .20 trades at a premium compared to .177 or .22. :D

Without knowing FOR CERTAIN, my guess is that the finish on yours is not the original. The R1 is an older model (and an excellent one in my experience), so the matte black doesn't make any sense to me.

Nope that's not a factory finish!!! that to me looks like meloniet finish! probably to cover up rust!!!! JMO because I have melonited finished rifles on purpose! ;)

It's refinished!

I wouldn't worry about the finish either, put the money into a nice scope and one piece mount. ;)
