Title: FWB barrel weight
Post by: ssbn617 on September 16, 2019, 10:40:04 PM
I have a FWB300 that I would like to remove the front sight assembly on. This leads me to the next step of how to finish the end of the barrel and what do I use.
The rifle will be used for bench rest only so weight is no a problem. Really looking for esthetics .
All ideas welcome .
Mitch

I have a rat 300 that I got from Pilguns years ago. I removed the front site and barrel sleeve. It had lots of pitting. I put a nice Venom muzzle brake on.

Cyclops Joe has a nice video on blueing a 300.
I learned a lot. :D ;)  Which is pretty unusual for most of his videos. :-[

I don’t know and cannot measure it at this time. I’m laid up with back problems till further notice.

Sorry Mitch,  I forgot.

I'll take a good guess and say the barrel OD is 15mm. If I'm wrong, I'm sure to be corrected in here.   :D

I've looked around on the web and nothing off-the-shelf jumps out at me.

If aesthetics is all you're concerned about you might try contacting Mike at TKO and see what he can come up with. He's made special items for me in the past.

Thanks, good idea.
I tried DonnyFl, and Neil C, but they don’t want to do anymore one offs.

Slide on muzzle breaks in 16mm should be very easy to find.
I may be taking mine off in a few months.
Good luck with your back.  Ive been in traction so I can empathise.
When you get better, start doing sit-ups. ;)

I just measured mine and the barrel is 14.8mm. Sorry for the crappy phone pictures but here it is with a Venom brake.

Of the rifle or the brake? The brake is from Venom, long out of production. The rifle model I don’t. It is a 300 but I don’t know which version.

It shoots great but it was a club gun. Butt pad is cracked, blue is gone, grip cap looks like a dog chewed on it. But, I think I paid l$250 and it had just be serviced. Shoots like new.

I did get the brake from Mac1. You could call Tim and ask. He always has stuff hidden away in the shop.

Does anybody think removing the barrel sleeve would have a detrimental effect?

From what I have seen my rifle shoots the same as it did with the sleeve.
