Did not want to hijack the current 853 thread, so...
Chasing links here and elsewhere regarding mods for the 853 I see references to this:
http://www.caes.uga.edu/extension/spalding/4h/ProjectSAFE/documents/TomJohnsonsSporterTips.pdf (http://www.caes.uga.edu/extension/spalding/4h/ProjectSAFE/documents/TomJohnsonsSporterTips.pdf)
Link does not work for me, spent some time on the host site and could not find the pdf. Went to the CMP site, was going to order the 8 page booklet, but shipping is nearly $7, so about $9 for the little thing ( I thought maybe a dollar or two to mail it).
Does anyone know where there is a pdf of it? I did check the library here, saw the trigger mod link.
Thanks
Bill

the internals appear to be very similar layout to the 880.. obviously single stroke and larger piston .looks like thew piston could use reinforcement.

That thread got me started looking for the Tom johnson booklet. All the references here were no longer valid, but I found one with the pdf you can down load.

Wepster-
THANK YOU !
Now I might do something to my 953.
Besides Extra pumping it for more power
{and that does work and can be done without hurting the gun if you can tie your shoes that is}
Just my opinion

Very welcome, happy to share with those who have shared so much here.

I think a check valve could be installed to make it a 2 or 3 pump gun. Assuming the pump are wouldn't snap like a twig

If you look at the Tom Johnson photos there is not a lot of room for a check valve in the valve body. I suppose you could machine a check valve that fits in the end of the pump tube, but then you would have to shorten the piston stroke. And reinforce the piston and linkages. And figure out what to do with the pump tube, which is made of very thin metal. Maybe better to accept it for what it is, i.e. an entry level 10m gun.
The trigger mod is another story. I have two 853's, one with a modded trigger and the other without. It is definitely worth doing.
Besides the modded trigger mine has a 4X32 scope, adjustable cheek piece, fluted comb, adjustable heel shelf, adjustable barrel weight, and a new brake.

Thanks for letting me know.
I tried to update the post with the new link, but I can't. Maybe because it is so old.
For others, here is the new link to Tom Johnson's booklet on CMP.

I was able to download that booklet for free the other night. When I get back to my laptop later tonight I'll try to find the link.
