I just ordered a Beeman R7 from Pyramyd air last night along with a Hawke 2-7x32ao hd ir scope. I was wondering what are some of the things I should do with it once it arrives. Any kind of quirks I should be aware of with the gun? Do I need to clean out the barrel? Are there any modifications you guys would recommend that I can do easily and for little money? I'm pretty excited and have already ordered about 2000 pellets to shoot through it.
-
Order more pellets.
Congratulations. You are in for some great shooting. Let me know how you like the scope. I know you'll love the rifle.
-
you need to put a cocking arm incert in the cocking arm before you even fire it! or it'll eat up your compression tube on the out side like a hacksaw cutting into it! they can be bought from JM! other than that claen the barrel with ballistol and some patch's and shoot it! :P
-
Congrats- I've heard nothing but good about the R7. Happy shooting. :)
-
Mark, can you please explain what a cocking arm insert is and what it does?
-
Its a delrin type material that go's in the cocking arm to keep the cocking arm from rubbing the compression tube, so its an inbetween to keep the arm and tube from making contact, if not installed it will cause damage to your compression tube it costs about 3.50$ from AirRifle Headquarters, this is a factory design flaw from HW, that effects the HW30/R7 guns and the HW50's type guns. the cause is the 2 piece cocking arm pivots up into the tube and cuts it like a saw blade and over time it will cause serious damage to your rifles compression tube, I know first hand! cause its happened to me! :P

Well, I read the instructions (in quotes below) for installation, but I still don't understand where it's installed. Are there photos anywhere?
"Simply cut it to the length needed and insert it into the hollow double jointed cocking levers like on the R7-HW30, R6, Hw50's-55 etc.
Install the split ends into the lever first. Most often if pressed in it fits well but can be sanded, buffed or ground for a perfect fit. Does not need glued in. Eliminates receiver galling prominent in these guns. Be careful not to over grind it as it will compress in the lever with minor effort. You want it about 10 thou higher than the lever. On newer guns that have deeper levers you can shim up the insert, double it face to face and many use a small portion and fit in the cocking lever like the factory roller etc. Many ways to use these."

On this site look at part UL066, the cocking arm.http://www.gunspares.co.uk/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=24561&cat=HW30S (http://www.gunspares.co.uk/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=24561&cat=HW30S)
When you strip it down you will see. I ran the whole length. Just cut and sand to fit.
Here is a link with some pictures. Scroll through and you will see the arm and tube relationship.

Congratulations on the new gun.

Thanks! I'll try to post some pics once it gets here w/the new scope mounted. As for the cocking arm issue rubbing the tube or whatever, does the damage actually affect the performance of the gun or is it purely a cosmetic issue over time? Also, is the R7 the only gun to suffer from this "manufacture flaw" or do all the Beeman springers exhibit this characteristic?
-
I'm sure their others, I think some Gamos have the same issues. :P
-
Does it affect the performance in any way?
-
I wouldn't say performance as in it firing ,but It can make a rough cocking cycle. Here's a link for the fix.

Congrats on your new rifle! Great choice! ;D

Will installation of the cocking arm insert void the "limited lifetime warranty"?
-
I think as long as you dont alter the rifle in other way and don't scratch it up and make it look like it been disassembeld the incert can be easily removed if you'd ever need to send it back to them for a repair, what voides the warrantys is when you do alterations that you can't correct! like honing and deburring and tune kits {etc} if your careful you can take them apart and no one will be the wiser and chances are you'll never need to send the gun back unless its bad right out of the box! HW builds a pretty good gun and your probly gonna want to tune it sometime anyway so if you have a good gun why would you want to send it back their easy to work on and you can do the work yourself! JMHO :P
-
Does the gun need to be disassembled in order to install or remove this insert?
-
Yes, it needs to be fit in the cocking arm. :P
-
Okay, I just ordered the part. Are there instructions online anywhere that shows how to install it? I'm not so mechanically inclined so I hope it's somewhat an easy job.
-
Also, is a gunsmith screwdriver needed, & if so what size?
-
I might just return the R7 and whole order back to pyramydair. I don't want to have to deal with taking apart a brand new gun from the box just to install the little insert to prevent the gun from damaging itself. Guess I'll be looking at a tx200 and hw97k now. Might even pick up another pcp. Any suggestions to some good, quiet alternatives?
-
How much money do you want to spend? :P
-
If you keep the R7 and take it from the stock. Be careful with the screw in the rear of the trigger guard. It connects to a nut that can fall out and be lost before you knew it was there. Don't ask me how I found out about that nut.
-
I remember LOL!!!! sorry Korak! :P
-
Actually on second thought, I'd like to keep the gun under 500 dollars. Does the R9 exhibit this same problem?
-
Nope! :P
-
Thanks for the info, Mark. Looks like I'll be picking up the R9 .177 with a hawke 3-9x40ao. Lots of pellets too!
-
your welcome and you made a better choice! :P

Is this the cocking arm insert? I was expecting something cylindrical. I don't know why. Now I'm clueless as to where it goes.

bildio, JimL911 posted the exploded diagram here on the first page of this thread.

I'm assuming it goes in between the two metal arms listed in part UL066. Someone correct me if I'm wrong as I've never installed it before.
My R7 came in the mail today and I sent it right back. Didn't want to go through the trouble of taking the gun apart even though I'm sure its easy enough and a fantastic gun by all accounts. I just didn't want to take the chance...my R9 will be here by next week. :)

I was planning to do the same, but I called Air Venturi service and they put my concerns at ease.
After all I've been reading, I know you'll love the R9. I was very tempted, but it would be too much gun for my purposes. The R7 is perfect for me.
How did you ship the R7 back, i.e., FedEx, UPS, USPS, ? It's a big box.
-
Yes, it is a very big box. It came via fedex ground and I sent it right back by fedex ground. Total shipping back cost $16. Curious as to what Air Venturi told you. Did they say they would replace it if anything went wrong relating to that specific part?

I sent you a PM.
