Hello GTA Peoples,
Yeah, that things got a Huma regulator now and a handful of other upgrades that have it shooting slugs like it was made for it!
Here is a rundown of all that I’ve done to my (2017 – Gen-2) .25 caliber FX Crown walnut to get it shooting slugs accurately and with decent power.
600mm Slug “A” Liner
Extra High Pressure Gen 2 Huma-air Regulator (170 bar setting)
Huma-air Wika Pressure Gauges (Reservoir and Regulator side)
FX 580cc Carbon Fiber Bottle
6.35mm FX Crown/ Impact Valve Seat
Custom Hammer Spring Weight
.25/.30 Transfer Port and Harmonized Internal Hammer Spring Tension Grub Screw @ the Max Setting on the Hammer Spring Adjuster

All these modifications and upgrades combine to give the following results with these two weight .250 slugs.
Nielsen Specialty Ammo 31.7 grain .250 HP Slugs
Nielsen Specialty Ammo 33.5 grain .250 HP Slugs
10 Shot 100 Yard Groups with each NSA Slugs @ my 10 Inch Gong Plates
I’ve shot smaller groups, but I think those are all possible kill shots at 100 yards.
I‘m kinda proud of the Ol’ Crown and the results from the weeks of at home DIY tuning! Mission complete. I’ve already taken a few critters with some awesome shots! Wow what a “POP”!!!

I’m not very familiar with the Crown internals , how big is the plenum ? That’s decent power but I figured the crown would be able to push much heavier bullets at the same speed . As they say power is nothing if you can’t hit anything and it sure looks like it’s hitting where you’re aiming .

Thanks! You better believe she hits what I’m aiming at Hobbyman, lol! I really have no idea how big the Crown’s plenum is. You see, it is all in the breech block. I suppose it is the air space in between the regulator and the firing valve within the design of the block where the regulator pressure gauge is located. No way of giving or increasing its volumetric capacity. It’s kind of a is what it is situation.

Nice!
It looks good, accurate and powerful.
. . . Nice.

Great job with that Crown Joe! It looks like that thing is loving those slugs, and you got yourself a heck of a shooter there!! You got it right with the tuning. The biggest improvement you can do on the Crowns is in the valve seat and barrel port(a little). I was able to get a friend's Crown to shoot the JSB 33.95s at 61 fpe with the reg at 150 bar, and I got his .30 up to 87 fpe with the 50 grain JSBs. They both had the factory regulator though, so anything over 150 bar was useless. I know the .30 would have easily done over 90fpe if the reg could have been reliably set at 160-170 bar for sure.

I need to contact Hubb to see if he has the plen extensions and any upgrade advice for my reg in the RS II.
Great results Joe! ;) 8)

Thanks Rallyshark! She also shoots the JSB KING HEAVY MKII 33.95 very well out of the slug liner @ about 915 FPS for about 63 FPE. Boy do they hit hard! I like all my PCP’s to shoot in the 900’s. With a 20 yard zero it allows me to shoot flat out to 50 yards and beyond that I’ll use holdover.

Thank you Mike!
Your Rain Storm II is a awesome airgun!
Just wanted to power-up the Crown to hunt larger game or pest at distance.

I found this link Mr. Mike don’t know if the Huma regulator for the first-gen Rainstorm would fit the Rainstorm II.
