Title: just messing about with some pellets
Post by: wolverine on August 17, 2019, 08:58:11 PM
i picked up 9lbs of duct seal today while at menards 11% off sale.  before packing it into the metal 22 lr trap, i put it against some cardboard at about 3" thick and shot it from 10 meters with a .22 30 fpe rifle.                                                                                                                                                                                                        from left to right: polymag short, hades, hunter, hunter extreme.  now i realize this is not realistic using duct seal or being only 10 meters away, but it's still interesting.  as you can see the polymag's hollow point "ring" came off.  the hades fragmented, the hunter mushroomed like any hollow point should, and the hunter extreme beat out the hunter by .005 to expand the most.  using a very accurate toothpick to judge the depth, the polymag and hades measured the same, as did the hunter and hunter extreme.

this is an experiment i will duplicate again at 30 yards, the distance most my squirrel shots are taken.

Did you ever get a chance to duplicate the same test at 30 yards?
These are three interesting pellets to compete head to head.

No i didn't. As usual, something came up.  I did however collect several different mediums to try when i return from montana next week.
