There really is no other way to describe what the pump does, other than long slow toot. I just got my cheap amazon ($45) pump last week and pulled it out of the box, threw teflon tape on it, and gave it a go (not connected to a tank or rifle). At the bottom of the stroke, the air all comes out slowly and with a biological sound. To me it sounded like oil/grease in one of the valves/fittings, so I took it apart and blew stuff out, dried off all the oil, and it still isn't really better.
Since the videos online all have poor sound or sped up pumping, any insight on how normal this is? I assume the loose (wet not thick) oil probably should have been cleaned vs going into the gun anyway.
Send it back or spend the time chasing down the source of the sound?

Put the cap on the end and pump it up to 3000 psi.
Let it set for 15 minutes to see if it is leaking.
When you bleed the air off to remove the cap. It should blow a little mist out.
Put it on a gun and see if it works.
If it works, it is OK.
Mine toots sometimes and I rotate the handle 180 degrees and keep pumping.
I toot sometimes. It is not a problem most of the time.

That may be the sound of the "stinky" air being released that we've heard about..... lol

That sorted it. Found one more connection to teflon, then it held 3000 for 15min. Then on the bleed off it spit out some oil, did it again, spit way less out, now not tooting as bad. So I'll do it a few more times to get all the free oil out of the thing, then try the gun.

I don't have one, but didn't I read that drying off the grease/oil is not advised on the hand pumps? They need to run a bit "wet"??

My Benji pump toots. So did my cheapo Chinese pump.
If I eat a lot of alfalfa sprouts, then I toot. Maybe not toot. Sounds more like a duck being run over by truck.

When pumping from 2500 to 3000psi my air venturi will squeak. I think it's from the pressure overcoming the fill valve.
