Title: Benjamin trail np pistol trigger fix fail
Post by: Martin trj on August 07, 2019, 11:04:13 PM
Hello fellow air gun lovers.  I was trying to upgrade my ben trail pistol with the information I gathered here.  I headed to my local hardware store and bought a 3m x 12mm screw.  I tried to screw it in place but I wasn’t able to break the barrel and as soon as I started to screw the replacement 3m the trigger would get stock...what did I do wrong?  I even tried with a 10mm hex head but same thing.
I appreciate any help.

I think I'd remove the new screw, reinstall the original screw, and see if you're back where you started.  If it still doesn't work correctly you're looking at a different problem.

Thanks for your reply.
The original screw works just fine.

Okay, you're back where you started.  Perhaps it's time for a bit more research on exactly what you're doing and why.

Yep, right back where I started which is not that bad.  I can get use to that trigger.  Back to the drawing board it is.
Thanks Roadworthy

Not thinking, I do not think they fit the pistol but you always check with them.

Yeah, I don’t think there’s an upgrade yet.

From another forum I found earlier last year I think:
The trigger action can be helped by replacing the screw which pushes the sear with a longer one taking care not to run it in too far.  I used a set screw rounded off and polished at the contact end and some mild thread lock. This shortens the pull distance considerably, making the heavy pull easier to accept.

I used a M3x12 SS Hex head screw - I shortened it with a dremel cut-off - then rounded and smoothed the end.
When it is in too far the gun will not cock - I had to back it out some and I shorten the total length down from 12mm.
I think maybe there is a fine point where the safety does not work - so be careful.

Well that makes it clearer, thank you for sharing.  Has anybody tried this and if so, what is the ideal length of the replacement screw?
Thanks

I looked and measured the one in my NP - screw was all the way in.
It is a M3x8mm - with tip rounded and smoothed - hex head is also rounded off - I think it was hitting the frame.

The trigger pull is still LONG - just a little smoother than the stock screw.

I cut the screw to 8mm and smoothed the tip and now the gun cocks fine.  I'm about to check the pull in a few.
Thanks for the info  :D
