Title: Pringles plastic lid for pellet tins
Post by: BackStop on August 07, 2019, 09:01:16 AM
This may have been posted before, but I did not find anything using the GTA search engine.

Anyway, I use a lot of Crosman pellets and the plastic lid off of a Pringles can works great as a lid if you don't like how the screw off metal lids can sometimes be hard to deal with.

I can see there are some clear advantages to that...LOL

LOL!   Well, I had not bought Pringles in years, but I did find them on sale the other day and the thought hit me to try it and it works like it was made for it.

The only problem I can see is you might have to use a permanent marker on the Pringles lid to let you know, at a glance, which pellets are in THAT container.

It is MUCH easier to keep the pellets covered this way (especially if you have to access the pellets often) than using the screw on lids.

Anyway, I only posted about it because I could not find anything when I searched. ;) ;D

Good tip, BackStop. Crosman tins drive me crazy. I usually have to unscrew them the first time using two of the multi-lid remover tools: https://www.amazon.com/Evriholder-Easi-Twist-Easy-Opener-Colors/dp/B000BKZUJK/ref=zg_bs_17548243011_22?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7RQDNH7CERMN3G9EB5TB (https://www.amazon.com/Evriholder-Easi-Twist-Easy-Opener-Colors/dp/B000BKZUJK/ref=zg_bs_17548243011_22?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7RQDNH7CERMN3G9EB5TB)
Now, Daisy tins, on the other hand, are easily separated.

I usually set the opened Crosman tin in the lid, bottom side down into the lid.   I still do that, but now, I have the Pringles lid (which fits very snug and secure) to keep from spilling pellets.

I was sure someone had already done this, but even my search of the internet turned up nothing.   Then again, as I have said many times in the past, I can look right at something and not see it!  (grin)

soooo...if i'm planning on loooonnnng shooting session, can i fill a pringles container with pellets and use that?  ;D

great idea!  somehow i always get the threads crossed on those crosman tins when closing them.  plus, it shows you how many are left without having to open the tin!

Heck... and then you don't even have to lube the pellets!! just don't clean the pringles can beforehand.
however, I don't recommend licking your fingers after retrieving pellets.

Great idea Kerry! I'll have to keep an eye for them to go on sale.
I moved the thread to the Simple Home Projects Gate. It should get more views there.

How far out can you hit a pringles?

I don't know.   My "range" is limited to 55 yards and I can hit a golf ball at that distance consistently... when I remember to put the Freedom on HIGH power!  (grin)

I can also hit a golf ball at 55 yards on LOW power, but I ONLY if I KNOW I am shooting on LOW power.  ::) ;)

i can hit a golf ball 50 yards too!  yea, my driving isn't the best part of my game.  but my irons and short game isn't too bad!

Clearly this idea came from a guy who's a chip off the ol block. ;)

Good tip, last time I got into a new crosman can I had to use channel locks to open it.  :'(

Good deal. I would label the bottom of the tin. That way you could use the Kerry Kover on a different brand pellet if you choose.

Nice container.  I've been using Tic-Tac containers, but I may have to buy some Juicy Fruit now.

Thanks, but I don't know if I want my name forever linked to Pringles?  (chuckle)

I am glad that I posted about it.  I thought it was already common knowledge for sure!  ;)

At least with Pringles devotees!  (chuckle)

Has anyone else actually tried the Pringles plastic lids?

I have noticed that they can become a little bit loose over time, but still work well enough that I may be eating Pringles (or generics) just a little more often.   I just wish I had kept all of the lids I have thrown away over the years!

Not that I have eaten that many Pringles, but at my age, I would have had a lifetime supply!  (chuckle)

Another option for pellet containers is an Altoids tin.

I haven't actually tried it, but I think it would be an easy to open option, but I am not sure how secure it would be if you were carrying it around with you.

Looking for an improvement, not an equal alternative.
If there is nothing gained, why divert?
(sigh)
I waste enough energy to get a little return.. why spend more of it for nothing?

Easier to open is the supposed improvement.   I know I have read where some people have had trouble opening pellet tins.

I have posted this before; but it works for me.  The blue stuff inside the lid (and body of the bottle) is blue jean material that is glued in with rubber cement.  When I say "NOISELESS", that is what results.  I don't carry it around my neck any more because I am using a multi-shot rifle now.  But back in the Discovery .22 days, I needed to get at the pellets often and quickly.
(If you need a pill bottle, ask some old guy who may live near your house.   ;)

I have gotten a couple of Crossman pellet tins that required a pair of strap wrenches to get open!  :o
