I built this in September of 2016 for EBR. I desided to post some of the picks I have for it.
Barrel was ordered in January of 2016. Took around 6 months to get. I then machined it to fit a pre 2013 spin loc condor frame. The old triggers are way better and with a super sear are fully adjustable.
Scope rails blanks were made by Tom. They were 1.25"x.850". I then had to put the center slot and ball mill to fit on the frame after cutting off the old rail. I used 4 10-32 allens to attach it to the nubs I left from the old rail.
Trigger guard is also .850" wide and was made from scratch. It covers the trigger group rail also.
In September of 2017 I made a monster shroud for it out of carbon fiber. Had to chuck up the barrel to and support the rear of the frame to turn threads on the OD of the frame.
Right now it is sitting on my bench apart. I sent it out for anodizing. Haven't had time to put it all back together.

This was September of 2017

So right now gun is setup at 3100 psi. Shoots a custom 165 gr bullet at 975 fps.
When I first built it it was set at 3400 psi and was shooting 995 fps. I did a little tweaking to get more out of it and lowered the pressure to get more shots. It gets around 16 shots within 10 fps.

Artistry in Metal.....Super nice.
-
So...what do you do for fun Doug?
-
Glad to see you posting this! Artistry in metal.
You should post some of the close-ups of the Picatinny rail n action modifications where it fits, same pics you sent me were fascinating, others would sure find it interesting too.
That regulator is so awesome, it's so 😎
Get ready for lots of pleading for you to start producing them.

She’s a beauty 👍🏽
-
Wow Doug, that’s a thing of beauty. Now I see the plenum arrangement , that makes more sense now that I see it . How much volume does that plenum have ?
-
Thanks everyone.
I couldn't find pics of making the scope rail for the 338.
When I built the 338 I built 3 new guns and converted my 308 to picatinny and large trigger guard. I built a new 257, 308 and 338. The new 308 has sense become a 375.
Here are the pics of when I did it for my Texan though. Same deal except there was room for 1 more screw.

Found the barrel pics.
First 2 steps are hard chromed. The hammer rides on the barrel with oil filled nylon 66. Stuff is hard. I found that the stainless is barrels are not as hard as the hammer forged chromoly TJ barrels.
Found a place that could hard chrome the wear areas. Asked me how much I wanted on. So I took the 2 machined pac nor barrels that I didnt care if they messed up. Came out perfect. Then I machined the .257 and 338 barrels and had them done.
Stuff is hard. I have 4 more barrels that need to be machined and chromed still. Some day when time permits.

Doug, your work never ceases to amaze me!! Beautiful guns!!
-
Beautiful work Doug.... You deserve every bit of success, the time you have put in developing the AirForce platform is amazing.... Very cool to see the finished plenum.... What was the final volume you decided on?....

Thanks Bob
The plenums are around 23 ci. I have made only 2 because of how hard they are to make. The only reason I have 2 is I couldn't finish the first one. I couldnt hold it to put in the reg hole. So I started over and had to do the reg hole step first. Then about a year later I found a way to finish the 1st one in the mill. I had some end millscustom ground.
I have a design that will work a lot better but it required to be done on CNC mill. Been trying to get it going for around 3 years but no luck.
Same setup works on my 50 and is making 740 fpe on 3100 psi.
I need to use water and get exact CC here some day.

Thanks Tom
-
As always a fantastic job!!! I noticed a texan style valve instead of one of your valves or is it a new mod?
-
So that works out to about 377 cc, plenty big enough for 400 FPE, and will work to double that with about a 10% pressure increase.... Great design, too bad it's so hard to make....

Doug,
Pretty cool.

Doug, I'm in awe.
I'm only posting to follow.

Fantastic work!

I have a severe case of plenum envy! ??? ;)

How many of you knew Doug was an Alkin compressor dealer and sells them through NSA?
After tiring if trying to fill four 80cuft SCBA bottles with a Shoebox, then went through two different Chinese small compressors then a AirVentura two-cylinder that actually had a cylinder crack completely off.....
Doug told me he sells compressors and I bought a Mariner W-31 and it is everything he said it would be.
Doug is a top-notch machinest, a Texan master Airsmith and if you follow his shooting , is frequently in the winners circle there too.
Thanks for posting pictures!
And every time I hunt/shoot my .457 Texan you rebuilt for me I say "This is what the Texan should have been" and am appreciative.
You know the feral hogs around here just die every time they hear your name, haha. You've heard of Thor's Hammer? Mine is Doug's Hammer!
-
Great sTuff as always Doug!
Always amazes me how many think ss is harder than chrome molly. Nope. Not. We talked about this long time ago concerning valve stems. LOL! ;)

I didn't- but man, I sure wish I could afford one!!! One of these days!

Doug I haven’t gotten on the forums much at all since receiving the rifle you built for me, I’ve been too busy shooting it! And does it shoot! Amazing work as always bud, we need to catch up soon!
Sidebar: I can’t for the life of me figure out how to post pictures on this forum... it was always a hassle... if anyone wants to see the latest version of my rifle... www.instagram.com/sharpestofshooters (http://www.instagram.com/sharpestofshooters)

How have I missed this?
Good looking stuff Doug, always nice to see your work.
Really like the plenum setup, lots of regulated air for a shot.

I’m afraid to ask . What’s a custom Texan worth with all the fixings ?
-
i think you should sell that 7075 plenum to me. its too small for your likings Doug. ;D

Chamber is 1144 stress proof. It is around 23 ci. I need to water CC it. It weighs a little over 7 lbs.
I have one of the 2 I have on my Texan right now. The highest fpe it has made is 767 fpe. It's making right around 740 fpe right now on 3100 psi with 400 gr.
Easily can hit clay pigeons at 200 yds in 15+ mph wind.
-
Thanks Marco. I just don't have the time I use to. Have a lot to build if I ever get the time

That is GD impressive!!

with 1144, ya might want to use 90% alcohol thats cheap at walmart and evaporates with air blasts. unless you have some rust preventative coatings on the inside of your chamber.
i have enough rusts on my airguns i don't touch water anymore. all my 1144 rods gets rusty just sitting in the shop. if you do use coatings please point me that direction

Black Zinc.
Works alright. Not very durable though. Don't have any issues with inside. Use good clean air. Was going to powder coat but didn't want to deal with things not clocking right.
-
Doug, what is the twist rate of your .338 cal barrel?....
