Title: Cheek rest (what is standard adjustment range?)

I'm making a cheek rest and I'm wondering what is the typical adjustment range?  I'm almost done and just need to know what length bolts I should use.

It depends on yer face, the scope, the rings, and the drop of the comb.
   (And dont drill too deep, either, leave some meat in the stock)
(Dont worry about cast-off on a bb gun thats straight.)

Did you template first?

I'd guess 2 or 3 inches.
If that isnt enough, I think the monte carlo is wrong.

Slight differences between adding on a check rest, and cutting the top off of the stock, and making it an adjustable riser. If I had to pull a number out of a hat, I'd measure the stock where the pins are to go, and subtract an inch from the smaller measurement.

That you for that info.  I should have given some context, yet you gave me what I was looking for, a general standard. 

The gun is a P-rod with skeleton stock, so very thin top rail.  I typically use low ring mounts and I'm on the finishing touches of the riser and I used 1 1/2" bolts.    Since I'm using low mounts with a  2x7x32 scope, along with my fat face I didn't much of a riser, about 5/8" or less.  The bolts stick out of the back of the stock about a 1" or so when fully seated and I was debating if I should shorten them.  Based on what you are telling I will leave as it in case of future needs.

Oh ok, I was answering about a wood stock.

DIY! Even better!

As long as you make it removable ( like nuts AND nylocs to hold it tight) I say “go crazy” and cut em off. Youre only out 5 or 10 bucks if you want to redo it!

You can use a bolt - down through the skeleton stock, and when you assemble it, use short sections of pipe in between ( copper? PVC?) to keep the height where you want it. Adjustable, just not on the fly. PVC might retain black paint better after some 400 grit sandpaper.

Might not be worth the time if they are only a quarter of an inch.

P.s. I’m also rather partial to “stock sleeves” like on these pcp’s.

For my crosman pump 13xx  pistol and stock, I took off the forestock and mounted it as a raised comb, then covered it with the padded riser (very high scope, and very low shoulder, heh)

I carved a bigger forestock, added a finger grip and a flashlight. You can see that it donated the sleeve to the newer model. :)

I have medium rings on my 1377 carbine, and here’s my custom adjustable cheek-rest.
