Title: First World Problems - I have nothing to paint!
Post by: Stikkershokk on June 24, 2019, 12:34:18 PM
I’d like to practice doing a light camo job, but don’t have anything to paint.

Any suggestions on a cheap plinker 22 or 25? Preferably one that would look good in flat dark earth.

I might look into a 3rd nova freedom, but want to see options (even though I don’t have a tank or pump yet)

Not casting shadows on your ability to paint....just thinking, "what if I were to try my hand at cammo pattern painting?"

Short list are 3 realitively inexpensive PCP rifles I don't think I could make look worse....if you start "fugly".... then even "ugly" is a step up.

I'd have to pass on desert-pattern...no deserts around here (more like "swamp" cammo").

It's all "in the eye of the beholder" as to what's ugly and what's not,but (for my beholding eye) likely I'd go with "cheap and ugly"rahter than "expensive and ugly".

Xisico Sentry
Gamo Urban
Hatsan Flash

Are other "cheap" PCP's, but I rather like the shape/look  of the Maximus, Chief, and Stormrider.

I like the Xisico Sentry. It looks like it would be a straightforward project to carve a custom stock for it to drop right into!

I just have fun with some spray cans and, and a couple of  beers.

The green one is done, but I want to do the tan color scheme.

Not really, but I got new rings delivered today! weaver .22 mediums. (Very low mediums)
I can set the scope on the black gun, and get it dialed in at 25 yds.
(The 40mm scope stays about 1 or 2mm off the shroud. It may JUST graze it, if I shim the rear ring slightly.)

THEN - I can take apart the painted one, and do the final colors on it!!!!!!
(I'm excited)

Shroud is getting FDE or something similar. 2tone, reversed top and bottom.
stock is getting a "dappled sunlight" effect, i think.

And the lower scope height let me quit having to shoot it with the "chin weld" :)
Also fits in the case very well.

Clarification- the rings I got YESTERDAY were weavers, but sized for a Weaver rail.

Rings I received/mounted TODAY were ORDERED as Weavers, but THESE are what showed up.

They were 7 bucks each, so if they work I’ll keep em. Odd substitution.

I really like the flat dark earth color. When I bought this 6-24x50 scope from Monstrum Tactical, I knew I had to paint up my stock to match. I ended up having to go to a paint shop with the scope, left it with them, and they were able to custom match it in a spray can.

Rib - How about you coming out with a pattern called Mossy Cyprus?
Doesn't your part of La. have moss & Cyprus trees?

Augie, what is that AG?

Now on the colors. I don't like green. But for what ever reason, I like your use of it. Looks darned good!

I looked at those rings today at WallyWorld. Marked med. But are low. Very low. Maybe they are so inexpensive due to being mis marked? At any rate, I'm going to pick up a couple fo sets, One for the Maximus that is sporting a 1" tube Zeiss scope.

Would appear to be a modified Hatsan Hercules Bully.

Thanks. I’ll take a closeup when I’m happy with it.  Light and dark brown, sage and forest green, black and white. I want a more “light-dappled” look - I’m hitting it with fde again.

My 40mm scope might be JUST touching the shroud - I “lifted” the rear ring, so I may take out the shim, for clearance. It’s WAY too tight for the lens cap to fit. But they DO fit 40mm on the Freedom shroud.

Put the same shim in the front ring and double the rear?

Not enough room, the 11mm rings dont have the same headroom as the picat/weaver's.
I might just take out the shim, and hope the scope doesnt bottom out on vertical.

Its a shame, the scope on the green gun went on once and never came off. it just doesnt have the mil dots that i find helpful.

Thanks!

Mr. Knife. Yes, Steve is correct, it is a Hatsan Hercules Bully in 30 cal, with the bottle cover removed and the factory scope rail switched out for the shorter rail that goes on the Hatsan Bullmaster.

Dry enough I guess. I’m done. Here’s some ideas, I’m happy enough with it.

(Except for maybe the last pic)

Oh, scope was remounted with no shim, and no problems. (1mm to spare)

While i painted the shroud, i drilled 3 little holes in it - I hope to soon drill the shroud spacer block.
OR, i might just make some cuts along the length, using my bandsaw. Either way - VENT it.

So both are fairly well sighted in - I was shooting a paint-stirring stick at about 30 yds.
Title: I'm really bored again. Should I paint my Warranty gun?
Post by: Stikkershokk on August 02, 2019, 01:05:02 PM
I would really like to have a green camo based .22, and a tan camo based .22 - (both Freedoms).

I have been good for the last 2 months or so, since i got them. Only painted the parts-gun.

But I *REALLY* want to paint the black one.

(If I start buying stuff just cause i want them, id have to get at least one more Freedom, and a Liberty or two - and i dont have a place to store them!)

What odds do you think "Murphy" would give on something going wrong after my paint job? :)
I'm not sure that I can wait a whole YEAR to paint it.
