Some one logged in with a username of looking_something or other then the icon turned red said something i don't recall chat lagged I logged out and cannot log back in.

I've popped in and out of chat once or twice but never participated.
I just now clicked on "chat" and it gave me the GTA Home page inside a smaller window.

That is what I am getting also when I click on chat, thanks for confirming that it isn't just me.

Hang loose folks, we are having issues with chat and our programmer, Looking_tang, is checking on things.

I was in there talking with Geoff the other day and there were problems with it then too plus you couldn't see if anyone was in chat before you logged in, I basically logged in to see who had recently visited and Geoff was already there and brought to my attention other things going on that weren't right there, I just tried it and you can't even get in there right now, I'm sure it'll be fixed eventually though.

Blueimp chat is a very buggy chat app. When it’s given me fits, the fix was to reinstall. After a while of dealing with this nonsense and it slamming the database, I removed it from the AirGunGuild.

The developer came in and the issues still are not fixed so chat will be down until the issues are fixed.

Because we had to uninstall and reinstall a newer version of chat, everyone needs to clear their web browser cache. Even if you SEE tabs in chat like Kick or Ban, if you try to use them you will be told you are not allowed to access that function. LOL

Yep, too many security holes in the app. Shut down for now. Will have to purchase a new app and have the programmer install it. More money....

There aren’t a lot of choices for SMF. The ones that are available are super buggy. An option might be to install a cloud based chat app, and skip trying to host it yourself. These chat apps are intensely resource consuming. Keeping it off your server is probably the best bet.

Yep, sure. Chat was a very old version and not compatible with the new version of SMF. Everything needs upgrades from time to time.

Personally I"m really glad it's getting fixed myself, it's been a long time since I've had audio in there with Mint17.3, I've since install Mint 18 also and that had audio at first but the first time I did an update on Firefox for it the audio on that OS also disappeared as well, I tried everything to get it back with no luck.

I always had audio, with Win 10, Firefox and IE. I just chose to turn it off.

Chat on the GTA site is still not working.
I don't really care, but I just thought I would make note of it and given the title of this thread, it seemed to be the appropriate place to say something.
I did see on some thread that I can't seem to find, where an admin said it WAS working. Nope.

It has nothing to do with my browser cache. I get a "pop-up" that only has a selection for the "gate".
I think it may have to do with "ad blockers". But it may also have something to do with NoScript.
In any case, I won't bother trying the chat feature any more. As far as I am concerned, it is broken for me.
I do run several extensions/addons in Firefox, but if I have to turn them off for chat, then chat is gone. No big loss...

Basically, for most... it doesn't work. No big thing... I never used it much anyway. However, the admins should take note that it does not work for MANY/most GTA members/users.

I always ran ad blockers, and I never had a problem with the chat. No offense, but you making a deal that you don't care, or no big loss. But I haven't seen you in chat. Most here are on daily.
Guess if Chat is broken maybe some of us could just run mIRC and make a GTA group.

Well, we paid for a chat application and paid to have it installed. It works for me. I don't like it but it works.
VERY frustrating but I'll keep at it. I'll see what alternatives there are.

I don't have Windows but I've got Linux Mint 17.3 and Mint 18.2 and it won't work on either. I use Firefox for a browser, maybe I'll try google chrome and see if it works with that ???

Must be just me. I tried Google Chrome, IE11 and Edge. All worked.

Okay, so it WAS just me. LOL
Sorry all, I looked in permissions. Chat was allowed for everyone. But Shoutbox was denied. That is because we used an actual chat app and are now using shoutbox. Try it now everyone.
It SHOULD work.

I tried with FF and turning off add blocker, Nadda... Tried with Edge, Nadda. Tried both browsers on my Phone including Chrome. Nadda. It dun gone broke.

Still not working last I knew it was being kept off due to security reasons. I see that has yet to be resolved.

Still not working for me either Dave.... I have Win7 and FF. I cleared my cache again just this morning.
I also am one that rarely, if ever, use chat but as you said.. it's part of our forum experience and many do use it.

It's now been set to open as a page and not a popup window. See if this helps and let us know.

Turns out that your various groups were not given permission to view by Admin. There are portal shoutboxes and then this shoutbox which has its own permission level that was not set. Now, this should be verified by Admin because deciding who can do what in a chat is really Admins decision. I set it up how I think it should be done but there are many groups at GTA so that needs to be addressed. Ok folks... you (at least regular members and global moderator) should be able to access the chat now. I have also put the chat button back to loading as a box since that was not the issue in the first place. If you have popup blockers on your browser make sure they do not do that for this domain. Who can give me an 'Amen" to this working now?

Folks are running 10 year old Windows7 and presumably 10 year old hardware and I want to flip a table.
I make a living as a UI Developer and I will not support a ten year old operating system or browser due to lack of security and the fact that the OS, browsers, underlying HTML, CSS, and JavaScript has moved leaps and bounds beyond what was available a decade ago. It costs my employer a lot of money to even marginally support older technology.
Do us a all a favor and upgrade your ancient smelly hardware and software!

It "was" working for me, but now I get this message:
There was an error loading new messages, this could be due to losing your session or server being unavailable, please refresh this page or wait 8 seconds while the shoutbox retries.
Clearing cache doesn't help and refreshing via the link or manually does not help either. Cookies are allowed for this site, but I can't see any other cookies to allow if that is the issue. I am thinking someone is adjusting things again and that is somehow messing it up.
It's been a long time since I ran a message board on the internet (ran a dialup BBS for about 10 years before the internet killed that), so I don't remember most of what I once knew, but you can really screw up with permissions if you don't know what you are doing.
Again, this may have nothing to do with permissions, as it seems to be a cookie issue given that the message mentions "session".

I wish I still knew half of what I used to know about running a message board on the internet. I ran a fishing message board devoted to fishing in North Alabama.
Maybe I will get back into it one day... Nah... I did it back when because I loved what I was doing. Now, I would have to be making money at it just to keep it up and running and that would take all the fun out of it!

I also noticed it's quite a bit more exotic looking than the last time I was on a shoutbox chat room. It's got options for images if you want to post and audio too which is cool.

I guess the only thing I missed was the "on screen" listing of who was already in chat. Now, you have to click on the "heads" to see.
No big deal really, but it was nice to be able to see who was in chat when you first logged into it. Also, it seems that chat now does not let you know when someone joins chat.
Again, not a big deal, just different.
Once the Admins figure out how to make ShoutBox work consistently, it may prove to be very nice. Maybe...

I think it will take some time, but things like this have to be let known to the people who can do something about it.
Before the last SNAFU, I was getting a sound alert when someone joined chat, now... I am not sure.
In any case, and many thanks for all of the efforts of the admin and others to get chat working...
I am not a fan of this version. Shoutbox gets a thumbs down from me so far. Yeah, it might have a lot of features, but there is too much to do to use them and the usual "features" of a chat are not there without clicking something.
As I have said before, and been chastised for it!, it is no really big deal. I post on the forum and that works well.
Seems there may be too much time spent on chat, when it really isn't worth all the effort. JMHO and if you don't like it... well, go to chat and complain! LOL!

Chat is not for every one granted. It can be fun and a fast way to get some help and advise.
It's also just a nice way to keep in touch without clogging up GTA with nonsense since We tend to fill the &^^& bucket in chat. LOL

The forum is a much better place to ask questions, IMHO.

I did not break it at least I dont think I did... I like chat for the BS of nonsense that isnt AG related and a faster response time of the peeps I am BSn with. This one works but I dont care for it I know one member told me he is going to jump over to AGN over it, his choice.
