Title: How much do you shoot?
Post by: chanman84 on July 27, 2011, 10:41:12 PM
I just recently got my benjamin disco a week ago and i've already gone through more than 1000 pellets. I'm just curious as to how much the rest of you are shooting because for me personally, I think that is quite a lot of pellets. Given that my gun is in 22, I can see this getting expensive quite quickly if I continue shooting at this rate. I'm starting to think maybe I should have gone with the .177 just because of the volume of shooting I do most of it being target practice and plinking.

So, is 1000 pellets a week a lot or a little? I guess it depends who you ask as it's all just relative. I have way too much time I guess.

I don't shoot PCPs much, shoot much more springers and Airsoft Blowback handguns, probably 300 rounds a day all together,....and 50-70 arrows :)

Whenever I sit down at my shooting bench in the backyard range I'm usually good for 200 - 300 pellets during a shooting session, sometimes more and sometimes less.

I hear a lot of people saying .177 pellets are cheaper but they really are not.500 cphp's in .177 cost the same as 500 .22.Even with the higher end pellets the price is only maybe a dollar different.I shoot about a tin of each caliber in a week, sometime a little more, sometime less.

It depends on the day and whether I am seeing the pest birds and varmints.

Four geese yesterday. A half dozen blackbirds and one muskrat.

Then a few shots checking the scope accuracy at about 35 yards after missig a gopher at that distance when trying a shot to the eye. Had to note the dot that was right and correct for it as I was shooting a bit high - and with the small head of the gophers an inch high means a miss.

I'm mainly a BR shooter and shoot about two to three times a week.  Each session I shoot ~ 200 rnds in a effort to "refine" my scores... ;)

Thatīs the reason I went for a .177, bought my mrod almost 2 months ago, Iīve already shot more than 5,000 pellets, I shoot mostly in my room.
That many pellets in .22 wouldīve doubled what I spent, but one thing, when I shoot in my room, I use cometa wadcutter pellets, they work very well in short distances, and cost 60 pesos(around 5dls per 500 pelets tin), when I have the oprtunity to practice outdoors I use crosman premiers.

As much as I can,,as often as possible.Probably 400 shots a week I think.

Pellets must be priced different where you guys are (because over here they're the same price). I shoot H&N pellets and Predators exclusively and 500 FTT's in .177 is $11.99 and .22's  are also $11.99. I also use Predators in my .177 rifle,(and .22's  in my 350) and they are about the same as well. Now .25's are more expensive,,but here .22's are the same even at Canadian tire for CPHP's.
I guess every place is different.

Oh well,,as much as I love shooting,it wouldn't matter anyway I guess.

What kind of geese are you shooting and what AG are you using.  That's a lot of good eating there. I hope the meat isn't going to waste

Lucky if I get out once a week. And most of it is supervising the kids. They are running through a couple hundred rounds a week. I get maybe 20-30 rounds.

Probably 100-200 pellets per week.

I have a 25-30yd target setup in the backyard and like to plink 20-30 shots in the evenings to relax.

Don't worry about it.  After all, you just got the gun and your gonna want to test and find the limits.  I started with a .177 disco and upgraded to .22 cal.  .177 is so dinky your much better off with the larger .22
As far as price its really nothing.  Even when compairing to a .25 cal, thats not much different either.
I spend about a $100 a month on ammo and targets.  The way I look at it, its better than hanging out at the bars and getting stupid. (which I still do from time to time)

Its not like were shooting powder burning guns that cost $15 for a box 50 9mm  Plus range fees. (which I do too)

I think your on the right track.  Your gun is new and your gonna shot it a ton.

Have fun

I shoot at least once a day when I am not working double shifts or am away on my drills. I'd say 200 a week if I am lucky.

i've put 500 .177 HN baracudas through my fusion in two weekends. Granted i can't shoot during the week so perhaps i have been catching up and shooting a lot. I'm liking the JSB heavies as well.

I've found, looking at prices of on particular vendor, that there is a noticeable difference in price between .177 and .22, especially in the JSBs and baracudas, as well as the box CPD, .177 being particularly affordable. Then there are others like the cphp or cp tins that are close in pricing as well as the FTT. It seems that .22 was around 15-45% more expensive than .177 of the same brand. I'll have to go back and check my math though

I personally shoot maybe 50 a day. 200 on a good day. As for the person who said .22 pellets are only a dollar more couldnt be any more wrong. Say for example if one .177 tin costs $9 for 500, that same brand in .22 will be $10 with ONLY 200-300 pellets.

As you can tell, .177 is more cost effecient for plinking.
As you can see in my signature I have two .22s and a .25. I use those for pest control and my .177 for plinking and target shooting. Sometimes I use my .22s too because CPHP are THE best deal in .22 pellets. 500 for roughly $9.
