Title: H&N Crow Magnum 22
Post by: EdinGa on May 28, 2019, 09:47:13 PM
Anyone else shooting these? My Urban likes them. Just over an inch at 60 yards.

I get outstanding results in 4 different air guns with these pellets. A bit heavy though.

My dragonfly loves them. I dont have a need to shoot over 10 yards and this guns stacks these pellets on the target at that range. I shoot rattus rattus with them, I shoot them just under 500fps. They hit the rats hard, and the pellets seem to get stopped pretty quick. Many times not leaving the rats.

Sounds like I need to try them in my Prod. It should shoot them a little under 600. If it shoots them well, that might be my new combo for feeder defense.

Nope, the Prod doesn't like them. This was at 15 yards.

My P-Rod with its it's not so great stock barrel was best with Crow Magnums.  And I basically use mine the same you use yours. Air guns....

I've tried a variety of different pellets in mine, and it's done well with everything but the Crow Magnums. Every barrel is different, that's for sure.

I have tried them in all 4 of my .22s and get horrible results past 20 yards.  Sometimes a spread of 12".

Too bad to because they expand great.

I have a tin of them in .177,  but haven't shot any yet.

So, would you just state what size groups you are getting with the Crow Magnums at 50+ yards?
(I assume 5-shot groups.)

EdinGa's comment on shooting them at 60 yards (with an inch or two group size it seems) got my attention!
Because I've heard so far only that the Crows don't fly straight past 30 or 40 yards....!

I'd need them to do at least 50 — so, how are they doing for you?  😊

Sorry, Matthias. I'm of no help to you at all. I'm in too much of an urban situation for 50 yard shots.

I shoot them in my Hatsan 125 and my RIM.  There are more accurate pellets but nothing with the same terminal performance.  Water moccasins are DOA at 25 yards and they shoot good enough for headshots at that range.

I'll try to shoot some more 50 yard groups with my Urban over the weekend.

Much appreciated, Eddie!
I haven't been able to source these pellets here in Peru, but one of the gunshops has a shipment coming from H&N — so I have my hopes up. I even found some Crosman Destroyers. I'll test those out to 50 yards....

I couldn't get them to group better than inch and a quarter at 20 yards, at that range my gun is usually sub half inch.  But I was in a pinch and needed to take out a red squirrel last summer with them.  Head shot on a red squirrel at around 790 fps at 15 yards or so.  This pellet was devastating, I have never seen so much blood from a head shot, I don't know if it actually expanded, but the entrance hole was big and the exit was much bigger.  If my gun shot them accurately I would use them.

I had a Beeman r9 a few years back that loved them. Even in .177 the pop they made when they hit a pest bird was insane.

Thank you, Howard! 👍🏼

Would you help us understand the level of accuracy these pellets are giving you?

(1) Caliber = ...

(2) TYPICAL group size is = ...

(3) Range = ...

(4) Shot count per group = ...

Thank you! 😊

I forgot about this thread, and my Urban is finally holding air again, so I'll do my best to try some 50 yard groups this week.

I get good results with these even though it is a heavier pellet.

I don't shoot groups except at 7 yds. in the basement to get the gun, more or less zeroed. The acid test and final adjustment come with the 'minute of bottle cap' target @ 20 yds., braced on the door jam from the kitchen out to my deck. Water bottle laying on it's side, cap facing the gun, at the base of the bird feeder.

This 'group' with .22 Crow Magnums was right after installing Hill short shroud, barrel band and performance valve kit in my .22 Marauder. Captured one of the pellets, but the first shot kicked the bottle on an angle and the second shot exited the side.

Don’t you love how they expand?
