Another quick share, and have spend right at 5 months on this one. I decided I wanted to do a frame off on this rifle, as it was well worn, much rash on the stock, and the bluing was showing that of a well used shooter. All the dents were steamed out, and I started out with Waterlox originally, but it didn't work just the way I wanted it, so back down with the wood. I tried a product called Liberon Finishing Oil, 5 coats wiped on then off, several days between with a touch of Liberon 0000 steel wool. Then used Liberon Black Bison Wax 4 coats. It turned out pretty nice and feels nice. The action was sent to a hot bluer in 3 pieces, the charging arm, receiver and rear plug. They did a fantastic job on it. I didn't want to go the cold blue route. I tried to mimic a case harden on all of the action screws, first by cleaning them up, then bluing with 4440 cold blue. Each screw was run up in flame to about 1200 F just till I saw the impurities starting to flame out, then dropped them in thick gear oil. They actually turned out pretty good. I replaced the charging handle pin with a new one as the old one was a couple thousands under the new, ARH seals, Artic Spring, new cast ring. Muzzle break was spun out of delrin and has a set screw in the bottom that lands in the knock out for the OEM front sight, machined by Thomas Murray, and a fine job he did. Rifle is shooting 660 fps with JSB 7.33's, and seems to be very accurate like most I have seen. Sportsmatch two piece rings for the FWB dedicated, and the new Nikon EFR. New butt pad, Anschutz accessory rail, and also the sled rebound spring.
Here are some pics of the progress, hope you enjoy,

J, ' You're doing great work on some some superb rifles. These old springers are the best ever made & anyone owning one probably knows what a treasure they possess...
I'm fortunate to own 3 lefty's..

Very nice job, hope it shoots as good as it looks. I came real close to buying that Nikon scope for my 300S. But went with the Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x33 just over 1 inch shorter more access to loading. Really like the muzzle brake wish I had one that fits that nice.

Awesome! :D
Wish I had your skills. :-\
Are those original screws?
Who did the reblueing? Did they strip it or did you?
Looks great!

You know I forgot all about that freedom model. I did want a 40mm this time, I have an EFR Leupold on another 300s, and had the Weaver rimfire AO on my first 300s and it was fantastic also, and 33mm.

Those are the original screws, dressed them as they were slightly marred. I do have some bags of new FWB screws just in case. I sent the tube, charging handle and rear plug only to the bluer, they wouldn't be interested in dealing with the guts, I don't blame them.

Ya, one of the pics looks like the charging handle has marks in it, it is the reflection of the washers on the scope mounts.....lol......it has no marks yet.
Just like you, a master Jedi in the springforce I will become, a padawan no longer we are, resist the tempation of the darkside (pcp) we must, fear not the power of the springs and that fear is the path to the darkside (pufferland), fear leads to anger (broken air compressors), anger leads to hate (leaking o rings), hate leads to suffering (less shooting).
