It's the 217-30-FN-B-J5 in brass with the Lyman hollow point pin. Right now I've got some pre-smelted lead heating along with the mold and the ladle, it won't be long now and I'll be casting some hollow points for my Airmax Dominator. I've got high hopes for the combination.

I'll be posting some pictures soon 8)

nice. Somewhere in the future I certainly would love to cast my own pellets/slugs, etc.
-
Well it took me a little while to get the HP pin in the right spot but I think I finally got it whipped, they're coming out at 28.2 grains average and they should shoot decent but won't know for sure until I try them in my Airmax Dominator. That'll be a couple days away because of the rain we're getting.
even made a neat fuzzy border for the picture :D

Lookin good, will be waiting for your results etc. 8)
What alloy mix, from the same bar as the others?
Any chance of showing what a Lyman pin is for HPing?
Never seen one before, I have always drilled my HP's etc.
Tia,
Don

Looks really good! Now to see how the shoot.

Don there was a little tin in the mix because there were four ingots that I made with copper shot glass's a while back and I added one shot glass ingot's to what was in the pot with pure lead, probably about .3% tin at the most.
Here's a picture of the Lyman pin, it's blurry but you can get the idea of how it works.

Thank you for that info,
I can see, IF we can get AL to make a 2-4 cavity HP with RG pins,
it would be a lot easier to use than the Lyman style.
I think, I'll wait for the RG type of mold. ;)

Can't wait to see results... some report their best accuracy with the hollow points...

I'm a big fan of Al at NOE but I got tired of waiting on the small RG pins and just accepted the cost and bought the regular NOE molds and sent them to Eric at http://www.hollowpointmold.com/ (http://www.hollowpointmold.com/)
I've got some Cramer style and some InsetBar style, not better than the RG just different... Each require a slightly different mold temp and casting technique and each needs different handling to drop the bullets but they all work.
On my BBT 4 cavity I went with the Cramer because I could set each cavity for HP or FP where the bar system you just tend to leave it 'as is' for however many cavities you had done.
On the big bores from mold mfg who don't HP I use the bar system for the conversion
-
Carl have you got a picture of that mold with the RG pins I'd like to see what they look like on the inside ???
-
Carl, Eric will make a set of fp pins for your at the same time as the HP set-up. I don't know the extra cost, but it is less than the actual HP service.

Come on Wayne , we’re waiting for the results . I trashed my mold no too long ago by overtemp , gonna check if I can get my local machine shop to deck the mold down . Hope it put out pellets that still shoot well .

I did not run mine across the crono yet, but did a quick 5 shot group from a kneeling hunting stance at 30 yards except for the 1st shot that was my bad the remaining 4 shots were right on target.
These BBT HP and fn slugs are the bomb !

It was a really windy day yesterday but I did get out and shoot the hollow points and I'm very happy with them. Put it this way it's much more accurate than I am when I'm hunting.

Just some FYI for those following, I have been shooting these unsized out of an AT 44 .22 @ 40 FPE stock settings with 25 usable hunting shots, and the same approx with my modified Sentry .22
BTW nice videos as always Wayne :)
-
I've never sized them myself, they shoot fine from most of my guns but they don't fit my Liberty or Freedom.
-
Being the hollow point is a little lighter they fly a little faster than the flat nose which is a good advantage for accuracy. My Dominator is very quiet too which makes good power too. With these hollowpoints I think the Dominator has a better diet.
-
Wayne do you find that the hollow points are more accurate than the flat nose ones?

Right now I think the biggest advantage with them is I can shooting the best of two, the 23 grain pellet and 28.2 grain slug with the tune that I have on my Dominator right now. When I had the gun tuned for the flat nose it did exceptionally well at distance especially. I remember quite some time back how Bob prefered the hollow point for hunting and I've always wanted the HP since. I think they'll be a perfect slug for the bigger small game, if these will chamber in something like the Seneca Carbine I'll bet they'd really be devastating at long distances with some higher velocities.

I’ve shot the solids in everything from a PP700SA at 450 FPS to an Evanix K550 at 975fps including a Benji 392 at 650 FPS . When sized right they are awesome . I really need an HP version . It’s my favorite bullet in .22 cal , low enough weight and short enough to fit every magazine I have .

James is your AT 44 the shorter barrel... is it QE or pre QE...I have the AT 44 Long and can only get them to work if I size to .216 and then knurl them...
I am at about 42 fpe...untouched out of the box... am thinking it is harmonics... it is a 23" barrel and only the one barrel band... about .75" at 35-40 yards... 1.5 % tin... need to order some 99.9% lead and try pure lead...

The last ones that I used I upped the tin a little and I did notice a little difference when chambering them in my Airmax Dominator but nothing drastic and they shot really good but I'm going to use the rest of the lead I have in the pot for pellets and go back to pure lead.

Mine is a short, the Sentry is kinda short too. I do cast in almost pure lead, 1% tin .some % other alloys from reclaimed lead from my traps, lightly blended in with the pure.
On the other hand my .25 Bull Boss is on the long side of things and does awesome with the 40 gr. . 25 BBT @ 900 + FPS for 9 shots.
-
Guess I need to get another barrel band... and some pure lead... ed just showed a really nice 60 yard Urban group with pure lead...Have a feeling it might help the drastic choke on my AT .22...
Which size are you running in the AT... the 217/219 or the 220/222..?
-
.217 is cast size, my swage is down to .216. both shoot equally well.
