Title: Mrod .22 hammer spring and throw adjustment.
Post by: rgppgr on May 12, 2019, 04:23:00 PM
New here so I'm sorry if this has been explained before. I've looked but didn't find my situation. My question is the adjustment of the hammer throw and spring on a used Marauder. This was bought with a HUMA reg. installed. The stock gauge shows 2000 psi on a full charge. That being 2800 psi. My chronograph was broken so the new one came in and shows RWS Misters @ 14 gr. going between 880 and 890 psi.. I have the transfer allen backed out 5 turns. The hammer spring is full CCW as is the hammer throw. Whatever I can do with those two adjustments is all for now. Someone told me to go for the H&N field target trophy at 14.66 gr and 5.56 dia. in the marauder barrel. I'm looking for a somewhat flat shooting accurate setting. I'm not so much interested in fpe. For years I've taken birds up to crow size and one jay at 60yds, raccoons, opossums and such with an RWS model 34 shooting hobby and misters in .177 cal.. I think the resulting fpe of the .22 will take care of my business. I'm just tweaking what I have. I've been retired and just got the first PCP. I think of the money I've saved by not getting one sooner. It's so nice, and faster, to see a target, pick up the rifle cock it, aim and fire. Don't get me wrong. The old 34 and 350 Mag. in .22 aren't going away (grand kids). So I'm getting lazy and like the ease and no recoil of PCP.  I'm thinking there's been 5 mags or more from a fill. My problem is a target will come into view while making a shot string so there's a few interruptions in the uncompleted string. I hope this is done right as I've already been called down for not following the rules.  But now I know what PM means. Thanks Michael. Thanks to all for all.

It sounds like it is tuned for the sweet spot for the regulator pressure, Have you run the hammer flight adjustment back as far as possible and also the hammer spring tension ?
You might get more help in the dark side.  8)

Yeah, this might get moved to the PCP section, but no harm done posting it here!

Here's the information you want to look at: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=74919.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=74919.0)

David supplied you with a great link for learning how to tune a regulated gun for the flattest string and the most shots per fill.  You need to tune for the regulators set pressure.  If that's not the velocity you want with the weight pellet you want to shoot, then you will need to pull the reg and adjust the set pressure on it and start the tuning process all over again.  Easy to do really.  It just takes a little time over a chronograph and a lot of refilling the air tube.

I would much prefer a heavier lead for coons out at 60 yards.  I have never had any luck with accuracy shooting the FTT pellets, and others I have let try them had the same poor results, but all guns are a little different with their favorite pellets.  The 21.14gr H&N Match pellets in 5.53mm head diameter did well for me.

Thanks folks. I started adjusting the spring and throw as if it wasn't regulated. The spring was tightened until just under 900 fps. again with 14.66 pellets. The throw was shortened to achieve 910 fps. At 20 yds the 14.66 gr. pellets grouped nice. At 40 yds. not so much. I turned the air transfer back in to achieve around 850 fps which seems to be a lot better at longer distances. Would I be better off removing the HUMA and setting it down from 2000 to 1500 hoping to open the transfer port, maintaining fps and increasing shot count? This is turning out OK. I'm keeping busy and out of my wife's hair.

TriggerTreat. Do you think I could keep the same 2000 reg. setting and step up to 21.14 gr. and be accurate at all ranges? Do you have any idea of the fps that would equate to? Accurate placement is key.

I always ran them at 830 fps.  That's a good speed to test
them at.

Thanks. Do you remember what psi you had to achieve the 830 fps. I'll pick up some more pellets! Thanks

I am away from my notes for a few days, but typically 3000 to 2000psi.  830 would be the average.
