Title: Nova Freedom question - need a little help.
Post by: Hawkeye51 on April 05, 2019, 12:53:56 AM
Purchased a Nova Freedom 22 cal parts gun to work on and shoot.

1)  Gun would not generate any pressure via pump handle. Broke down pump, cleaned all dirt, debris etc. checked and relubed all o-rings & seals. Pump works fine now.

2)  No preload pressure in air tube.  Takes 30 pumps or more to generate a pressure of 1700-2000psi.  Once over 2000 psi pump works as it should. I need a "one off" fill probe, made to fit the barrel end of the air tube, so I can recharge the prefill. Is anyone willing to make me a probe?   I will gladly pay you. Hopefully for a one time (or infrequent) use so brass or less expensive material is ok, and it doesn't need to be pretty, just functional. PM me if you would try making one. I could measure dimensions.

3)  With gun pumped up to 3400psi it has a very slow leak, about 1000psi per day. I will have to remove air tube, valve etc. etc to check all internal parts. Has anyone pulled the air tube off and pulled valve out of this gun? Any pictures or description available that you known of? I have the dropbox schematic, but still not sure what trouble I might run into.

Thanks for any & all help. Not afraid to dive in, just wanting a heads up on what to expect. Looks like a fun gun when I get it fixed & tuned.  Mike

When I bought a probe for my Liberty on Ebay I ordered one that was a replacement for BSA and it's a straight sided probe that I easily modified for depth in the probe hole using a couple old baffles that blew out of an exploded TKO that I had on my Prod.  I'm thinking that the same probe could be made to work good on the Freedom as well but that's only if the diameter is the same for both Liberty and Freedom.

Before pulling anything apart put a balloon over the barrel and let it sit to see if it is leaking and coming out the barrel. If it is then it will most likely be a brass flake under the poppet valve. Also take the gun out of the stock and spray some soapy water around the gauge. I have seen the gauges leak on these before.

Wayne, this probe is smaller in diameter than both the Liberty probe and BSA probe.

Paul, I think your right, its the valve seal. I'll try the balloon trick today to confirm. But you have to take the small air tube off to get to the valve, and the gun is labled "DO NOT DISASSEMBLE" @ the keeper pin.  These guns have been pretty straight forward to work on, but I just don't know if I'll need a special tool to reassemble.

Hope I can get it fixed.

it looks like the only problems you have left are probe and leak.

let me know if you have exhausted other options. obviously, buying oem parts from big dudes is also my preferred choice.

that is the pin under the gauge on the other side. "what goes on, comes off" dont be scared. just do it in a safe manner. ;D

+1 fill probe

I'll work on leak first. If I can't get to the valve, or reassemble after I do, then the specialized probe won't be needed & the gun will be parts only for somebody needing them. All of the warranty problems are not created equal,  I guess I just got lucky, (not). Ha

Thanks for your response. Photo & dimensions to follow.

If valve poppet, just degas gun, take gauge off, drive pin out with a punch and pull the small pressure tube straight out. Poppet it right there.

You were right. Balloon test confirms leak through valve. Balloon was flat an hour ago.

Fill port dimensions are as follows:  opening 7 mm  - depth 9 mm

I have a brass BSA probe that I will sacrafice (don't shoot r-10 very often). It's 7.7mm.  Going to try and chuck it up in my drill and grind or file it down to 6.8 mm and look for some smaller o-rings. No idea if that will work, but worth a try.

I'll work on the leak first. Thanks guys.

The black cap you took off and you see the port that accepts a fill probe if for the accumulator. You can get the fill probes from ATI for both your gun fill and the accumulator ports.

I called customer service & spoke to Ty.  He wasn't sure if they had any of the probes or accessories, said he would check. Did you talk to customer service, or the sales dept?  I don't know how big of a company they are, or if the different departments are even in the same building.

Prepressureized chamber fill probe
Part# 000P2-157-W-00

Gun fill probe
Part# 000P2-131-W-00

ATI should have these in stock.

Thanks, that's a big help. Where did you get the part numbers from? I couldn't find those on the schematic I have. A different schematic or parts list would come in handy, if you don't mind sharing.

ATIi does not stock parts yet. They say they should have them soon.
The accumulator does not degass when you degass the gun. I had to slowly turn the brass fill port on the tube to degass it. Knocked out the pin but can’t get the tube to pull out. After many WORDS am now taking a break. From what I could see a drop or two in the gauge port might get to the valve. I would try that first

Got the parts list from ATI.
Your pressure tube does pull straight out. Screw the brass piece back in the end of the pressure tube, put something like a screw driver through the hole to make a T and pull.

You do not have to fill you precharged pressure tube back up and you will be able to take more shot like that but you WILL have way more pumping from 0psi to fill up.

Your are welcome. That is what this forum is for.

Butch, will try the screwdriver “T” later. I talked to ATI yesterday and they said no parts for sale. Seems they have free parts lists but no parts as of yesterday. Wish they had.

I wonder if anyone has had direct contact with the mfg of these guns to find out if a person can order parts direct from China for their guns.

I have looked up and shot a couple of emails to the company Nova Vista customer service with no response. If anyone else has any luck please chime in.
