Hello all-
Looking at what would be my 1st PCP. It's an M-Rod. The seller has had it for a year. He never used it and it's never been filled. So it's been stored empty since purchased.
I thought all PCP's should be stored charged to at least 100BAR. Similar to leaving one or two pumps of air in the old vintage pumpers.
Will a dive/paintball shop fill it? (He does not have a pump) Other than bad seals/leaking what other issues might it have?
-
What Gen? If it is a Gen 1, buy it if it is below 365 bucks shipped. If it is a Gen 2, with a synthetic stock, buy it if under 375-400 bucks. But that is my opinion. Should be a Gen 2 since only a year old. Even if the gun was never filled, it comes factory with a tiny fill. If it has been empty, still not an issue. Seals are cheap as dirt. BUY IT.
-
I bid $325 shipped ;D I have seen NIB for that, any lower they may think you are low balling them, but under the statement it has been empty, it will need some work. ???
-
The question is - are you comfortable tinkering with your own rifles?
Next question is - is it a good price?
If the answer to both questions is "Yes", buy it. If not, only buy it if it's a killer deal (like $200 so you could afford to send it off for a reseal and a tune)

Do you know about the Crossman barrel lottery?

Inapplicable now. That was only an issue for about a year and a half with the Gen 1 .22 right at the end of the Gen 1's production. It never affected the Gen 2's nor the .177 and .25 Gen 1s.
-
Do you have anymore info on the gun such as caliber and stock material? If you can get it at the right price, I will gladly send you all the seals you need and some lubricant for it free of charge and can talk you through re-sealing it instead of you sending it off to someone that would charge an arm and a leg.
-
I bought mine .25 marauder gen2 for 340$. New. If the price is right pick it up and get a 40$ hand pump to fill it.
-
I'd buy it if that price was worth it. O-rings are the only thing that could possibly fail if it has never been shot- and they are likely just fine.

My thanks to all of you for responding
Here's more info:
Gen2\.22cal\Wood stock
Ask is $400. Local deal so no shipping cost.
I've resealed vintage airguns both pumpers and Co2 so I'm confident that I could handle resealing the M-Rod if needed.
Also I've read that the M-Rod is fairly quiet. It would serve as my backyard (garden saving) groundhog eliminator.
Thanks again. The GTA is such a great place.

Offer $350, be prepared to walk away. Bottom line is it is still used.

If it has "never been filled", it probably leaks. Would have left the factory with air. Buy one new from Crosman for $404.99 (with discount - and free shipping Friday) and has a warranty.

Thanks for the tip. It was listed less than 24 hrs ago. May just let it sit for a while then make him aware of the Crosman deal. Then start @ $250.
Thanks again for the help.

The Gen 2 .22 is still a 'barrel lottery' gun. I bought a Gen 2 .22 and it shot like &^^&. Plus, it had the POI issue. It would be zerod one day, and would group somewhere else the next. There are band-aids to fix this, but it's best to just avoid it. If I were set on a new .22, I'd get a new one. You can also order them with the LW barrel nowadays. I fixed mine with a new Hammer Forged barrel. However, it's really tight and needs cleaned constantly. Also used some 1/8" sticky foam tape around the ID of the barrel band to help keep the barrel from getting moved and affecting the POI.
That being said, I have a .25 and it's perfect. Extremely accurate with the factory Green Mountain barrel and no POI problems. If I were set on a .22 I'd either look into a NEW Marauder if I wanted to play with mods, or get something like a Gamo Urban if I just wanted to fill and shoot it.
Good Luck!

To answer or actually ask his original question.
What damage could be done by it never being filled?
I thought the idea to store a gun with some pressure is to mainly keep dust out, and check for slow leaks?
-
What discount is available to get a new one for $405? If that is true I may have to buy one.

Just out of curiosity since this is one on my list, in .25.. What is "the discount"? Crossman shows $540.. and don't see anything about "free shipping Friday"... :(
Thanks..

There was a link for 20% off in the link below this video, and Fridays Crosman offers free shipping. I see this one is no longer valid, there was also an Airgun Nation code, will see if I can find the link.

The code is AGNATION and still works for 25% off. Brings the cost of a 25 down to $420. I may pull the trigger on one next Friday.

Nice to know

I'd start at $250 and go no further than $300. Let whoever is selling it know that the gun will need to be serviced since it is not holding air, no need in letting them know you'll be doing work yourself.

Just wanted to post up that as of Friday the 15th of Nov 2019, this code, and the Free Shipping Friday, still works. .25 caliber Marauder arrived yesterday 19 Nov. $428 to the house.
Thanks for the tip and code..
I love it already, though after hand pumping to 3000psi a couple times.. I already ordered a fully loaded Tiger Shark. (after making a few calls and finding our local paint ball center/range/playground/battle field will fill it for $10.)

Congrats and welcome to GTA! I see you've found Condor's, I've been getting my SCUBA tank filled there for a couple of years, great people. I also played paintball there back in the early 90's. I asked not long about water separation and was told the setup they use is a breathing compressor that came from an oil rig several years ago and they keep the filters in good shape. I have been inside all of my PCP's and even with a mix of hand pumping and my tank, have never seen any indications of moisture.
-
I think I would wait and see what Crosman does for Black Friday. Rumor has it might be some killer deals for Friday only. He's not going to move it by then at his asking price.
-
It's most likely not holding air. They ship new with at least 1000 psi. The most you would need to do is replace the valve poppet and five HPA O-rings. Very cheap and easy to rebuild a Mrod. My concern would be rust inside the HPA tube causing a leak, but that's fixable as well. I think $325 to $350 would be fair, but the more you can save the better to cover your labor to fix. I bet it needs something. They hold air for years when right.
P.S. Possibly a new gauge also. They're notorious for leaking out of the weep hole in the back of them.
-
Glad to hear you got it! You will enjoy the simplicity of the marauder and how well it shoots too.

I have to admit.. Condor's was NOTHING like what I expected.. ;D
