Title: Vintage oversize Air Rifle Shot
Post by: unionrdr on March 20, 2019, 11:10:28 AM
I started collecting pellet containers not too long ago. I then won a couple Daisy 1894 model 30-30's at auction. So I naturally got more curious about BB's. I then proceeded to peruse the pellet tin auctions and found a couple vintage tubes of, " Air Rifle Shot". One, much older appearing, from, " Western Cartridge Company" before Winchester bought them out. Also, a NOS tube of Winchester, " Kopperklad" Air Rifle Shot. Both as compared to modern Crosman Copperhead BB's showing the older stuff is noticeably larger in diameter. Something to keep in mind with the older air rifles.

  And then, of course, by 1962 when these .303cal SP's were built we had;

Reminds me of the BB tubes when growing up.  Back in the 60's, BBs would be stocked by any store like Circle K, U-totem, gas stations, and even Walgreens.  I mean anywhere at 4 cents a tube.  Now it's only Walmart or the Sporting stores.  Ah, the good ole days...

Yeah, I thought they were really cool for their age and place in history. The Winchester tube is NOS as well. Sears, Penny's and Kresgie's sold them too. That was the old name for what is now K-Mart. Smaller, skinnier tubes were to be had as well, if I remember right. Federal also sold tubes of Air Rifle Shot. I need to measure those old Western lead balls. I wonder what # of shot they'd line up with? Number 2?
