Title: What gun always impresses you?
Post by: shorty on March 19, 2019, 06:02:53 PM
As the title states, what gun always impresses you?

For me,
It's that POS 22 cal Gauntlet. less than +/- .25" at 75 yard running at 875fps with 14.3 crappy chp's. Over 100 shots on a silly fill of 3000psi and 1300psi reg setting.

It feels like my to go gun now and beater. I hardly shoot my marauders now.

FX Crown outfitted at the moment in .25cal hardware. The absolute most accurate airgun I've ever seen or shot.

Think a lot of readers will reject this post....but I find it true for me (and I suspect from shorty's POS Gauntlet comment, he's kind of in the same boat).

It's seldom the really nice/expensive rifles that impress me that much. After all, I spend the $$$ for a nice rifle, wouldn't you expect better accuracy for the $?

What does get me are the occasional cheap rifles that shoot way-way better than you had hoped.

Exceeding expectations has always been more impressive than just meeting them.

(hard to read...15 shotsat 22.5yards)

So far as I know....as a new rifle...there isn't a cheaper PCP.   So likely my expectaion of a $170 rifle played into my being so impressed.

You might EXPECT the accuracy but that doesn't mean you will always get it just for the money.
And another is my Hatsan AT44W in .22cal. It has been my "go-to" pester for a long time. Always impressed with it's performance.
:)
My 1967 Pumpmaster 760. My very first airgun I bought new. I'm impressed I even still have it and impressed that every time I pump it and shoot it, it still brings a smile to my face from decades of memories.

The Feinwerkbau 300S.  I've got one that came as a "basketcase", missing a bunch of important parts and with the seals toasted to bits over time.  Still lack a few things to get 'er up and running, but borrowed some bits from a buddy's rifle just to make sure the order to FWB was complete before sending it in.  Here's the result: 10 meters, 5 shots, cheap Crosman wadcutters from the bubblepack (https://www.instagram.com/p/BvKkL8RB_fA7N8QhVl4_lGjXuIMojeZqn7hnDs0/)

Yep, for "old technology" they are still the accurate shooting iron when properly set up.

It would have to be my Jason Built QB, ... hands down.

if I pull out any other gun, the GS just get a little nervous,
but when I bring out the Nervous Trigger Special, They go running and screaming for the hills !

Huh.  That didn't work.

There's a target at the top of the current page that shows the group I'm talking about.  The two shots to the left edge were called fliers as soon as the trigger broke.

I’d have to say my Daystate Regal XL .22 non regged. If I do my part it is hole in hole at 20-30yds, gets 40-45 shots with a 162cc airtube and the ES is 20fps with it’s Harper Titanium Sling Shot System. And It’s trigger is otherworldly and I luv the mechanical sound coming from it when shot, very addicting to me.

Just about anything from Air Arms. I don't own one myself, but everytime I shoot someone else's I am impressed by the quality and accuracy.

Most of the guns that I own me in one way or another and all are surprisingly accurate for me if there is no consistent accuracy it is gone as a loaner or kept as a beater. The other major criteria is the smile factor no smile no keep

I think the more impressive thing to me about the Urban was the low cost of all these smiles. Now I've added a CDT trigger and bought into the CNC aftermarket magazine project for a couple extra mags.
That gun now lives in the back of my Dodge Nitro in a case along with a 30 minute 4500 psi cf tank.

Ok I will say that for a ~ 50 FPE .25 the Air Speed after a couple minor glitches is very impressive and the semi auto is a serious smile maker

+1 on the Urban
Good to go right out the box!
Just like Krylon. No runs no drips no errors!

I completely would expect the FX, Daystate, RAW class rifles to perform. But I am impressed by the cheap rifles that perform.

My Hatsan flashpup, blows my mind on how accurate it is for the price. Right along with my new 25 Gauntlet. Both factory lasers..

Crosman 600. Went through ~200 rounds yesterday. It didn't take long, and many a 12 ga hull died a horrible death...

Very hard to beat the "smiles per dollar" factor.
If I spent 1K - 2K on a gun I would be expecting to be impressed.... always.
Betty Lou has a metal/metal Daisy 880 that was gifted by a fellow member. The accuracy of that gun is absolutely astonishing. Paintballs at 35yds with 5 pumps and cheap (yellow) winnie domes are automatic.

;) ;D Tell Betty Lou I want either a large serving of "Biscuits and Sausage gravy" or send me back that heirloom 880. Just kidding I just wish I could find a pumper that I liked. I'm glad that little plinker has a good home and I think it is just awesome that the bride can out shoot you using that little treasure.

Do me a huge favor and keep your pawn shop eyes peeled for a decent Daisy Model 1894.

My PP700 always impresses me.  MY first PCP, one of the least expensive you can buy, certainly the most adjustable for the cost, and both accurate and un-picky.

As many of you know my favorite go to gun is my Airmax Dominator which is actually an SPAM16 or more commonly known as the Diana Outlaw these days, I've modified the barrel connector on it opening up the port, adjusted the regulator and spring on it for some great power with my cast 23 grain "Magnum Hunters"  I christened it with it's first 60-70 yard crow the other day.  I normally don't even try to get crows because when I'm out hunting I'm after the squirrels mainly so having the orange on doesn't allow many shots at a crow.

I know this is in the "Dark Side" section but my R1 from the early 80's still amazes me  1/2 in. at 50 yds day in day out!

I love my Ataman MR2 .25, it certainly wasn't cheap (though I did get it on a pretty good special through PA) but that thing groups fantastic at 50 yards and am hoping to take the NUAH challenge with it once the weather and wind calm down some.  So quiet since I put the Ronin on it too, makes it that much more fun to shoot for sure!

My .25 Cricket bullpup  is one that impresses me. Had one and sold it but missed it so much I bought another one. Super accurate, great trigger and quiet.

I was also impressed with my Diana Outlaw (SPA M16) as the fit, finish, accuracy, shot count and handling were great. I may buy another one when the Gen II comes out.

My Daystate Regal is beautiful and very accurate. If it had side lever cocking, instead of the bolt, it would be the perfect air gun. I get fourty shots per fill and can shoot 1/2" fifty yard groups, if the wind isn't blowing too hard.

There is one gun, one, out of many that I own that has not been modified at all because it needed nothing done to it out of the box. Beautiful appearance, super accurate, plenty of power = Evanix Rainstorm II 9mm

Its great to hear the "goto" guns. For some reason I am liking the cheaper <200 dollar beaters. I am starting to learn that under 50 yards and somewhere around 850fps/950fps with anything from 8 grains to 18 grains is devastating to Squirrels and Rabbits (BB gun stuff).

For me (at those power levels), is the stupid accuracy. Some guns or barrels have it and some don't.

Fun stuff either you have a 2k gun or 200 dollar gun. I only have the cheap ones.

My PP700sa is one of those inexpensive fun shooters as are both my Gamo Whisper Fusion .177 and Swarm Maxxim .22 . All 3 are cheap entertainment. I love the Swarm at 30 to 40 yards for killing soda cans when I go up to the in-laws place

Considering all the ones mentioned...I've viewed, listened, and considered....but it hasn't changed my outlook from the 3rd post in this string of posts.

Somehow, when I spend  $$$$ on a rifle and it shoots well....I'm not nearly as impressed as when I spend $ on a rifle and it shoots average groups just as small.

Same here.

I am really looking hard at the stormrider. Mag fed, barrel high enough for a shroud, and ( I think) a winner for easy full bore porting due to the bolt design. Not only that a reverse bottle regulated at 2k and a 17hmr barrel would be interesting for a nice little slug shooter.
