Title: Javelina hunting
Post by: Madd Hatter on March 18, 2019, 06:49:58 PM
I need to get a air rifle that will kill Javelina. Looking to go hunting with my son and son inlaw in AZ but have no idea what to get. Son told me that I would need something that would be multi shot as when you shoot one and i squeals the rest of the heard (?) will come out of the wood work.

Thanks backroad. Looks like the Benji bulldog would have the power.

Bulldog would be perfect for desert hogs. And look about the forum on drilling out the ports for more power to use heavier ammo on boar or deer in future hunts. The Benji is easy to improve power on. Many threads here on it.

Stock Benji I'd get NSA 110 grain sized for your hunt. You'll be good to go.

A group of javelinas is called a squadron. Javelinas are social animals and live in groups that might also be referred to as either families or herds.

Been hunting them for 45 years.  Sometimes you shoot one and they all run off.
But I have shot one and gotten treed by the squadron too.  ALWAYS have a retreat when dealing with porkers.  Tough little SB's and I would go heavier slugs like 140gr

If I was hunting terrain where tracking is conducive I would definitely want to use .45 or .50 cal to be able to take the Heart/Lung shot even on a moving animal,.....bigger caliber, bigger hole, more blood.
