Title: Beeman HW97K Blue
Post by: tml on August 19, 2010, 10:11:30 AM
Anyone got one? I'm contemplating getting this in .20 cal over a tx 200 in.177 or.22 Can't make up my mind about the AA so a .20 may be a good first gun. Also thinking R9.

First gun?  Really?  Then go with the R9, either a used one already tuned or budget another $80 or so for a tune kit.  I passed on a new R9 about 3 years ago in favor of a used HW 77, I should have gotten the R9.  I have one now, though, and it's become one of my all time favorite rifles, and I've had a few :-).  I also had a TX 200, sold it.  I just like the R9 better.  I'd even go so far as to say if I could only have one airgun, this would be it.  Did I mention I really like my R9 ;-)?  Later.

Dave

PS  The R9 is also available in .20, although I'm not a fan of that particular caliber.  Mine's a .177 and I couldn't be happier with it, nailed a ground hog at a measured 35 yards with it just a few weeks back.

I've got an R9 and a TX200 also; both in .177.

I like the R9 a smidgen more than the TX. Smoother shooting, probably just as accurate (at least in my hands). Less recoil, a tad lighter in weight.

And I have to agree with daved, if I could have only one ag, it would be the R9. But you can't go wrong with either on. Neither of mine are tuned, just stock as manufactured.

The Beeman R9 is a "benchmark" springer.  There are air rifles some like better, but I don't hear many people who say they don't like the Beeman R9.  In 20 cal, it is a classic, but you will most likely end up ordering your pellets on line as not many of the sporting good retailers will carry any variety of 20 cal pellets.  Mine loves JSB Exacts and Crosman Premiers in the cardboard box.  At the price Pyramid is advertising, I would definitely go with the JSB's, though.

I don't own, but have shot the HW97K blue.  Nice looking rifle.  Heavier than the R9, and it has a pronounced RH (only) raised cheekpiece on the stock (a negative for us LH shooters).  Underlever, of course.
