Title: New to me fwb124
Post by: Kingston73 on March 04, 2019, 07:49:59 PM
I’ll post some pictures later this week but I just bought an fwb 124.  Turns out the seller is also nearby so I didn’t even have to pay for shipping.  I’ve read a LOT of threads on the 124 and know that I should replace the piston seal.  I’ve read about the ARH twister spring and also the pro Mac kit and I’m wondering if there are any others and what the best one is?

I’m not too worried about power and speed, really just want a smooth, pleasant shooting rifle.

If the TWISTER is the one they market to fit onto the OEM spring guide ... would go that route with one of there Piston & Breech seals.

I did the "slightly softer" kit, and it cocks and shoots like butter. I'm only getting in the 760s with 7.33s, but my bore is super tight. No way to reassemble this gun without a spring compressor or a strong dude and a third hand.
I tried sizing a couple ARH seals because they were super tight, but got better fit and velocity by dropping in a black piston seal from Chambers UK.
Enjoy your 124!

They are very nice, sorry I have no tuning tips as I paid Slade and Watts to work on mine.  Both were tuned for smoothness.  They are both close in velocity around 760-775 cps with jsb 8.44.  I shot my best 5 shot group at 20 yards with one, looks like a single pellet hole.  I wasn't on a bench so it took some concentration.

Any suggestions for a tuner in the Northeast?  I'm in MA and figure it'll be cheaper to send it cost rather than further.  If not in the Northeast, who would you send it to?

I’ve read about him several times, does he have a website?  Or how do I contact him?

I have two of them- both WONDERFUL guns!
One of them I had tuned shortly after buying it.
The other had already been tuned by the member who sold it to me (Nod)- hopefully, he'll see this thread and chime in. The one I bought from  him, I absolutely love.

Here's a few pictures. I'm impressed with the quality of this thing, the details are very nice.  The only thing I'd like to change is the front sight, are there options for making a more precise sight picture?  I want to keep the rear peep.

I may wait and shoot it some before either sending it to get tuned or trying it myself.

What is the front sight?  It may have interchangeable discs if it wasn't the older factory version, or a later upgrade.  My 2 have different style factory front sights.

I didn’t look closely before but you’re correct, it dos have interchangeable front inserts so I guess I can just buy a multi pack?

I'm not sure what size they are, mine just came with a fat post insert.  I actually prefer the older front sight, it is a nice taper and all solid steel.  There used to be some guys that would custom make clear apertures to your liking, for target shooting.  Neil Price was one.  And maybe you could find a finer post style if that is what you wanted, but I don't know what fits off-hand, but they may be a common size still available.  Weirauch makes some for their front sight as well.  Maybe their sight would fit the gun if needed.
