Took advantage of the paid Holiday today and went down to the shop. Cranked the propane heater up and took a gaze around at the various "shop guns" hanging on the wall and standing in the corners. One stood out and I felt compelled to have a closer look.
I don't even remember where I picked this one up as with several guns around here. Another mystery is the fact that it hasn't been chopped, hacked or modified, other than an OF front sight that I apparently added at some point.

It wears one of those $10 NcStar compact scopes that are great for close in work in the barn. I've bought 6 or 8 of them over the past few years and I might have two left.

This is the plastic fantastic variant with a five shot pellet clip. There is a hole in the bottom of the grip that is convenient to stuff some foam in and store a spare clip.
-
I'm not sure when this variant was produced but I'm amazed at the over all condition of the stock, forearm and plastic clams on this one. My thought is that it hasn't seen a ruff life.... well, at least not until I left it hanging in the shop and humidity left it's marks on the barrel... :o
The marks you see on the stock are just rub marks from the rack or whatever. I didn't even try to clean them up.
-
Completely expecting to replace seals, cups and o-rings, I pulled the bolt back and and pumped it 3 times..... hmmmm, that felt pretty good. Dry fired it and got a snappy "crack" out of it.
My, my, my.. as Joe Kenda would say.... that's not what I expected.
-
I gave it a drink of Secret Sauce just for giggles and that other stuff..... loaded up a mag with CPHP pellets.
I have no idea where an empty plastic kitty litter jug came from beings me and Rambo don't do cats..... at all... but there it was, just begging to be a target.
-
.... anyhow....
plinky dinky into the non-clotting anti-stinky jug we went.
3 pump and dump... 3 pump and dump.
I probably ran 10 5 shot clips thru it and had more fun than a fat kid in a Baskin Robbins on "free scoop day".
So much that I forgot to take pictures of the perforated puss porta-potty media jug.
-
Looks like I might need to address the rusty barrel condition....
Nah, just hang it back on the wall in the shop for another day.
-
Seen this one standing in a corner... IIRC it did cycle and shoot last time I tried. Maybe I'll throw it up on the bench...
-
On the way out of the barn I heard a noise above my head...
I looked up to see no less than six of these guys hanging out in the branches.....
I hope they don't think all my guns are dead....

Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane Bill. The first transported me to junior high, and the second to grade school. Good memories in both.
-
You're very welcome Tony.
You know, this is a 100+ year old farm we live on. Many previous landowners walked away and left stuff here. Pretty sure there is stuff here that would take you back to diaper days and before.

Bill,
Where are you finding these scopes for $10??
Or was it a while ago?

I think that 760 probably came with the fiber optic front sight and based on the color of the stocks was probably made in the early 2000's.
The first 3 in the serial number on the receiver will tell you the date of manufacture, check on the bottom in front of the trigger guard.
-
Looks like one from my childhood had no front sight but i could hit a beer can at 20y.
-
Think I'm a lil younger than you guys but I grew up with one of those and is probably still my all time favorite because if all the memories, one day I will find another in good shape and purchase it. Thank you for bringing back fond memories!

Yeah, it was a while back. I just did a search and the best I see is $20 now.
-
I'll have a look for the date next time I get down to the shop. I don't usually spend much weekday time in the shop due to work and short daylight days. We're over the hump now and the days should start getting longer.
-
I have a few other guns that should bring back childhood memories for some of you guys. I'll post them as I come across them.

Really enjoy threads like this. Keep em coming Bill.
Sifting through your farm with a metal detector would be an adventure for sure.

This is perfect. Going to look at/trade for what I think is a 150 if he throws in the metal detector I'll send it along.

I've often thought about getting into metal detection. Just never pulled the trigger.

I have one of those 4 power NCStar Compact scopes. I really like mine. With my bad eyesight, that scope always gives me a sharp view, cross hairs, and target. I had to shim mine because I ran out of windage adjustment. Amazon has them at $25 now.

The cross hairs are just a bit too thick, but it's a nice little scope. Oh, and I paid $15.89 in August of 2016 from Amazon.
-
That's the funny thing Jon. I've seen them with thick crosshairs and with nice mil dots. I like the mil dots.
They are good out to about 20yds.
