I love my P17 for basement shooting but haven't pulled it out for the past year as my eyes are no longer great with open sites. I know some have mounted scopes on their P17's so I'm looking for recommendations for what works for 5m shooting and how do you cock it with a scope on it without putting your hand on the scope or pinching your fingers? I'd like to shoot this more without adding significant complexity to operating it. Thoughts/recommendations all welcome. Thanks

I just got this cheap 2x20.. That works fine. I got a slide extender coming for mine. And I got a 1 piece mount coming.
But I try and push on the scope ring.

I got the last ever will be made slide extender. I sold the one on the short barrel to someone.

Being that I didn't think Id find one. I thought of using a 1 piece scope mount.
Something like this.. That you could push down easier on.

When I use my 42mm red dot, I push down on the side angles near where the rear screws are on the slide extenders and let the back of my palm push lightly on the scope. It doesn't seem to move the scope on the rail.

I got a hold of him couple weeks ago, thru his ETSY account. I guess it went to his email. And Dan informed me that he only has 1 left and he ain't making anymore. I never asked why.
I know he made great items.

Thanks for the responses. That slide extender looks like a cool option no longer readily available :'(

the cocking extneder thing could likley be made by 3d printing....
just need a drawing, few meters of filament and an evening to print
(no Im not volunteering... :o)

Dans, The arms are out of steel.. I'm not sure if 3D printing will have the strength, since it being used as a lever, for leverage. Might be able to 3D print the spacer at the end. But not the arms. And like I said to someone. Not sure if he has a Patent on it. So I'm not volunteering.

ah yes I see that now. And taht ll complicate it a tad...
but Ive got a couple junk ones it could be tetsed on....

I use the cheapo $12 green dot, I can hit 1-2" spinners all day at 30 ft. with the P17 (about $42 all in). I like the Buckmark with a laser way better for indoor pistol plinking, easier on the hands and eyes and good to 30 ft. as well (about $75 all in) I have a couple thousand rounds thru the Buckmark nor problems.

i have an ultradot on mine,
i mounted it as far forward as i could get and still have room to cock it.
shoots awesome groups at 10yds.
but i too am thinking of mounting a low power pistol scope on it.
one of the small reflex sights mounted far forward would also give you alot of room left to cock the gun.

I have used Redfield 3/8" See-Thru rings on several. They need to be held open with a screw driver wedged in the bottom in order to slide over the dovetail. Once tightened they are very secure. I use the rear ring for a hand-hold while cocking. The iron sights can still be used with these rings.
The rear ring and scope were moved back since this picture was taken. I prefer a 4x scope on hanguns for paper punching.

I put one of these on my P-17. Made in Germany and sold through AliExpress. Hard to go wrong for $35. The shipping time is like 2 weeks though.
Instruction, if you get any, leave a lot to be desired and finicky to get it sighted in. But the two I own hold true and it's well made for the price.

It's not made in Germany. It's made in China. No way, you will get a made in Germany Docter reddot for less than 250 USD. Unless it's clearly a fake. Being sold at Aliexpress and only 35$ is a tell tail sign it's a fake.

I went to Docter web site and from what I read they are outdated models that were sold off.
Regardless, they don't come with a warranty or manuals etc. and they are probably returned older models but fit my needs. I don't have $4-500 to buy a new one.
DOCTER RED DOT SIGHT: NSN # 1240-01-622-4867$429 plus Shipping.. (We ship worldwide)
Where can I buy a sight?
You can order a sight directly from Docter-USA direct . There a lot of Docter Red Dot sights out there for sale, but beware they are old Stock and we do not warranty. Buy Direct and get the latest version with USA Warranty!!!
China is always in hot water over patent infringement. The latest is with Discovery scopes. I believe they are being brought to task for using SWFA technology.
I'm surprised that Germany hasn't called China to task on the Beeman P-17 that we all so love.

My setup.I replaced the rear sight with a thick flat piece of rubber ;)

Which style of red dot do you prefer on this gun? I see that you have both.
-
the one on the left.its one of those smaller versions of the old large red dots.
