I've got a Disco but hate the stock. It's ugly and the length of pull is way too short for me. Boyds sells a replacement stock, but at $180 it's way too expensive. I've read that the Maximus stock will fit the Disco and it's cheap. Is the length of pull any longer? Does it feel solid or cheap?
-
I bought a Boyds Evolution for my Maxi, the factory stock is off sitting next to the bench.
I never cared much for synthetic stocks so I am a little bias, they all feel cheap to me.
If I'd put it back on I would remove the butt plate and spray in some expanding foam.
I can measure anything you would like.... Tape measure or 6" caliper.
-
Could you measure the Length of Pull (from the trigger to the butt)? That will tell me if it's longer than the original. Also does the stock feel hollow? Does it flex?
Yeah, I love Boyds stocks, put one on my Savage .223. But I can't see spending $180 on a stock for a gun that's worth less than that.
-
Because it is off the gun I can't give you exact LOP (trigger blade) but from the back of the trigger guard opening to the butt plate is right at 13" and the trigger on my Maxi measures 1-1/4" from the blade to the rear of the guard... so 14-1/4" is darn close.
Yes, it feels and sounds hollow, that is why I commented on the spray foam.
But it does not flex.
I will say the texture at the grip is almost like a stippling and the stock shouldered nice.
If we would have talked 6 months ago I'd have swapped ya and saved $180!!

Are you planning on keeping your Disco now?
-
14.25" is about the same as the wood stock.
Are you planning on keeping your Disco now?
I haven't had any interest so I might. If I keep it I'll add a moderator and maybe a new stock (or mod the existing stock). It's a decent shooter and cold temp tolerant so might be worth keeping if I can get it quiet enough to use at home.
-
Modding a wood one would be easier. If the LOP is too long you can cut it down and sand the butt plate to match, or add a spacer if too short.
That's crazy, I thought you were being more than fair for a Disco and a pump combo.
Especially for those looking for their first PCP.... I even linked to it for someone.
If you decide to keep it and want to try this stock let me know.

I felt the stock on the Discovery I had was too short. So, I added some length - easy and cheap.

I find the maximus stock ergonomics are to my liking. It does not flex like the mrod syn stock. Like almost all syn stocks, it does have that hollow sound that is easily fixed by stuffing the butt with Styrofoam. They are generally about a 1lb lighter than the wood counterpart. Last time I purchased one, they were $18 + $4 shipping. Crosman has raised the shipping on long items such as barrels and stocks, to around $15. Check to see if the stock lug is different than disco.
I use this on the maximus stock: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003C6PXKQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003C6PXKQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and matches the stock well. LOP is 15" which is perfect for me. It also provides a non-skid butt plate, as the oem one is rather slick standing on hard floors.

I use a similar product on the Boyd's stock, but you can order most of them with a custom lop.

What size pad does your Maximus stock use? FYI I've read that the Maximus stock uses a longer screw than the Disco.

I remember seeing your mod before. Nice work! If I decide to mod the stock I will probably carve up the grip a bit, maybe widen the foregrip some for bench shooting, and add a chunk of wood to the butt. Kind of along the lines of the Boyd's Varmint stock.

Medium pad. The Max # for screw is 397-041, and is probably $2 or less. It is a 1/4-20 x 0.875" Oval head Screw

Jmo, but I have a disco and my son has a Maxi, side by side the lop is pretty much the same. I prefer wood stocks, but if it were not for the fact that I am installing a double tube kit on mine, I would buy a Maxi stock for it because the grip is shaped different and feels better to me. Where the disco grip feels blocky and is more rearward leaving me wanting to add material, the maxi has a grip more inline with a varmiter. No it is not a varmit stock lol, just feels better in my hand, Fuller with better ergos if you will.

Thanks, that's kind of what I was hoping. $20 for a Maximus stock + $12 for a butt is way cheaper than $180. ;)

I am one that just hates the Maximus Stock... that plastic tulip on the end just tops off my dislike... Wood schnabels I can live with... plastic they just ask for your rifle to be infested with haints.. ;)
The Disco stock is like an old friend... dad's Remmy 512 I learned to shoot with... But hey the Max was a WW clearance and I paid less than half what a Boyds stock runs... so I guess I can live with it.. ;)
-
Ooooohhhh. *shudder* HAINTS you say?
No wonder I like my wood.
Dang... shoulda got a Blue Laminate.
;)
-
HAINTS you say?
I always wondered what was in that hollow end!
:-\
-
well up north here I am not worried so much about it that I would have it a painted
cause up here well they just aint that common and tend to be about as worryin as a jackalope...
but down towards the east Texas swamps aiiint no way that stock would not match my porch ceiling... yep that Blue Laminate would be best.. ;)

Stop it Kirby... your givin me the willies.
