I have a Yong Heng look alike or clone. Some say it's an vevor brand. Anyhow, first time filling my 74cf tank and it got to 4000 psi and will not go anymore. It still running and pumping. But 10 mins later still 4000 psi. So I thought maybe just takes longer at 4000-4500. So waited another 10 mins and came check. Still pumping, but guage still sit at 4000 psi. Both guage on compressor and tank reads 4000. Why wont it go over 4000. Wanted to get to 4500 psi. Does it take really long from 4000-4500 or something is wrong here?
this is my compressor, setup i think they called it the vevor, yong heng clone. I used the hill pump filter (from my hill pump mk3) for the intake, fill with blue desiccant beads. I used 3 small oil/water separator (inside are just white cotton), then a larger tuxing gold filter, inside i use 1" pvc pipe fill with desiccant blue beads and half is black charcoal. I hear charcoal helps get rid on the oil smell.

Use some soapy water and check for leaks at all the high pressure areas. Output hose and nipple. Even the smallest leaks have a large effect at high pressure.

When the pressure was at 4000. I turn off the compressor leaving the pressure in the lines to listen to leaks from the compressor to the cf tank. I did not hear any hiss sound at all. I'm sure at 4000 psi, if there was a leak I would be able to hear it. it's like the compressor just stop building pressure once it get to 4000. Cause I bleed it, it went down, closed the bleed valve and it builds back up to 4000 and just sit there even though the compressor still running. Waited 10 mins twice and still at 4000. Pretty sure 20 mins, the guage needle would move a bit. Seem like once it hit 4000 the Piston isn't strong enough to create pressure. But idk. Will check the SS tubes/nipples for leakage.

If it's a Vevor, they are known for having the high pressure piston seal wearing out. Mine has done the exact same thing when I fill my 30 minute tank. I replaced my high pressure piston seal and it filled it to 4500 pretty quick.

Kevin...
Far be it from me to tell you what to do with what you own but....
From what I read here, it appears you may be leaving your compressor running unattended. If I'm correct, that compressor does not have an auto shut off. I would certainly not leave it run unattended.
Moreover, if it were mine, I would only fill airguns directly.
Again.. I'm not trying to tell you what to do but, in keeping in the spirit of the GTA, we have an unwritten responsibility to keep all of our members safe with our suggestions and actions.

My Karette (Carette clone) is doing the same thing. Won't go past 4000 and is starting to even mean woman about 4000. Not a whole lot of hours on it, in my opinion. Not too happy. Been looking at REAL scuba type compressors, but they are very expensive, and not a lot of reviews to check out, as I assume they don't sell many. A lot of the newer PCP's are asking for higher and higher pressures, and having to constantly top off my tanks is a pain. :-X

I believe it's a vevor, got it for 219 free shipping on eBay. It came with 2 spare piston seal. Only use it once to fill my tank from 0-4000. If it wear out that fast gonna need like 100+ extras. Don't wanna be replacing seals every time I fill. I did order an new piston with 4 split rings, I hope it fits.

Let us know if it fits. I've been contemplating doing the same thing.

Mine has the auto shut off. I tested it at 3000 psi and 3500 psi and when it reach that limit it shuts off. I know hpa can be dangerous, I didn't leave it to go shopping or anything. Just left to go in the next room. I could fill directly to my guns but don't want to bring out the 5 gal bucket every single time. Also have a 74cf tank, so prefer to fill tank like once a week or whenever needed instead of constantly bring it just to top a gun back to 3000 psi.

I ordered it from AliExpress. So probably gonna take 2-3 weeks but will post back if it works or not on the vevor.

Vevor bore is smaller then the tuxing / yong heng...
-
Be careful letting it run too long, heat is your enemy. I don't have a Vevor but I do have a Yong Heng but have followed the threads on these as well as on mine. My understanding is that the tightness of that single high side seal can be affected by how tight you make the screw that secures it in place. If you can't find an air leak you might be having air bypass that seal when it hits 4000 psi. I would open the top of the 2nd stage and try tightening the screw that holds that seal in place and try it again.

Thanks guys. Found the problem. It was leaking, but very small. Could barely hear it. Test with soap and can see bubbles. It was leaking at the high pressure bleed valve. I took it off and use some pipe seal tape and screw it back and stop the leak. Am able to fill to 4500psi now.

That's great to hear! Soapy water is the only way to go as even the smallest leaks have a huge impact at that pressure. Seems like it would only leak at above 4000 psi since you said it held that for awhile without bleeding down.
-
Glad you found it and got it fixed, had a small leak on mine before also at a compression washer, didn't keep it from reaching pressure just took longer in my case.
-
Yup funny how leaks seem to show up when reaching 4000 PSI ::) Hate that when it happens LOL
-
anyway if you have your own compressor dont really matter if you fill 4000 or 4500, you might get better longetivity if filling at 4000 only, this unless your needs are 4000-4500 psi fill,,but if youre filling to 2800-3000 psi 4000is good enough

Congrats on finding the leak !!! Terry the local dive shop guy here in this area during the summer keeps a spray bottle of soapy water handy right by where he fills the tanks at. Soapy water works the best.
