Title: Benji Mayhem, sometimes it just doesent click..
Post by: UlteriorModem on December 18, 2018, 12:03:08 PM
My Mayhem SBD NP2 has a minor issue.

When cocking sometimes you dont hear the 'click' of he trigger dropping in. You have to like run it back and forth at the bottom of the stroke a few times before the trigger clicks in. My Titan has two distinct clicks when it is cocked, the Mayhem has but one click and like I said more often than not I have to hunt around the click position before it drops in.

I looked for exploded view drawings of this gun and cant seem to find one. I also have emailed Crossman about the drawings but have not received a response.

Other than the minor issue the gun works great and is indeed pretty quiet.

So two things, where is the darn drawing? (it is different from the other Benji rifles). And where to look to fix the issue?

Thanks!

The Trail NP2 is closely related to the Mayhem and its exploded view drawing is available.

The Benjamin 32040 exploded view has trigger details missing from all of the newer drawings.

The Mayhem appears to have the NP2 trigger pack.  In my experience if the trigger spring is too weak it will not latch to cock reliably.  This may also happen if a longer adjustment screw has been installed.

Thanks for that. It actually has an aftermarket trigger installed. Forgot where I got it but it is not a CDT.

I will have to look into the spring I guess. The issue got worse after a recent rebuild.

You might check to make sure the slot in the piston that the lower sear drops into is centered in the receiver. If you got the piston back in a little off center, it might account for that sear not dropping quite right.

I thought about this and was pretty careful about getting the piston back in. Also I thought that the cocking lever would sort of 'self align' the piston?

Well that was an easy fix! Thanks for the help guys!

You don't even have to take the action apart to get the trigger pack off. I took it off stretched the spring ever so slightly. Also adjusted the piston position a tiny bit. Put it back together and it now has a satisfying click at the end of the stroke. I feel a little more confident in it now.

The trigger pull is a little harder now but I can get used to that. I feared that the catch might not be fully engaging which meant the gun could go off without warning :P

Anyhow thanks again, great community out there!

Bump-test it for certainty. Load, cock, safety on first. Point in a safe direction and smack the butstock with your palm or a 2x3 and see if the gun goes off. If not, switch off the safety and try again. If you can't get the gun to go off this way, your sear is fully engaging and it should be safe.

Heh, thanks, don't have any 2x3's laying around though :D

I am pretty confident with the gun as it is now it is working quite well. I had also discovered that the trigger return spring was not quite correctly installed. Fixing that helped a lot! :P

Seer drops into place cleanly every time and trigger pull is quite nice with 2 stages. Once in a while I will go back to the Titan which has a GRT in it and 'forget' that it does not really have a first stage and POP woops wasent read for that.
