I really don't know if the 2003 is the same setup as the RM377. I have two of them. The spring is a free floating torsion spring. It a bear to get in until you've done it a few times. I tried to find some "how to's" before I replied but I didn't have any luck. I picked my first one up at a flea market and luckily the spring was fine. My second, not so much. I ordered a replacement from McMaster n Carr. IIRC, the original in 90 ga and the replacement was 70. I had to cut it and bend the "legs" in. It took a few trials but I had the working gun as a pattern.
When I finally got it working it was so nice that I replaced the other one.
Sorry I can't be more help. If I had the gun in hand I could fix it... That's if it's the same setup.
