Title: FX Boss with STX barrel project
Post by: Glem Chally on December 15, 2018, 01:07:17 AM
I have a much loved FX Royale 500 and got it multi caliber in .22 and .25 and upgraded the bottle and stock since I've had it.  Anyways I figured I might as well get a Boss action and use up those parts right?  Also have the old gauge and regulator so I scratched those off the list as well.  Gave FXUSA an email and got a quote from them for what I needed it took a while but I went for it and decided to assemble everything myself as well.

A member CHUCK on AGN passed along an STX barrel and the A and B liners in .25 to a member there and member here Jking.  Jimmy tried them in his Crown I think,  anyways long story short they were modified a bit to fit a Streamline so it ended up with me.  Just needed to extend what Chuck had sanded and modify the brass barrel inlet to work with the Royale mags and line up with the transfer port.

Heres the end results,  It took a while to figure out the Boss trigger its a tricky little bugger to assemble.  I took it to the range today but for some reason I had the lighter Royale hammer weight in there I was surprised by pretty average results.

Got it home and realized what I did,  put the proper hammer weight in and ran a few over the chrony.  930 with King Heavies (65FPE) and 860 average with some Eunjin 43.2 (71FPE) in a regulated .25.  I'm happy!

Also have an adapter being made up so I can shoot the original smooth twist barrels as well in either gun,  I have and the .22 LW unchoked poly,  can't wait to slide that on and shoot some .22 slugs with it!

Nice work Nate and thinks for sharing. I know the FX Royale family is a passion for you and me so kudos. Looking forward to see how the slugs work out. Oh and BTW, I call dibbs on that Royale stock, it's absolutely stunning.

Thanks Dillon,  pulled the Huma out of the Royale and put it in the Boss today got a few more FPE.  Up to 74 with the using the Eun Jin's,  sounds like that adapter will be made this Week I'd like to see if it can make close to 60 with the 24 inch .22 LW barrel.

The adapter got made up today so I can use any of my Royale barrels in the Boss.  Here it is sporting a .22 LW poly and the probe feeds beautifully,  there's grub screws that affix the adapter to the barrel and then it's just mounted normally in the receiver.  The shoulder towards the muzzle end sits inside the receiver.

Some preliminary testing I got 912 with a .22 Piledriver so 55.5fpe and I still have 2 full turns left in the HST.   8)  I think 60fpe in .22 regulated is not gonna take much more work.

Now that's some power!! Great shooting as well! What pellets/slugs produced that group?

Thank you sir,  it's with Baracuda Match at over 1000 actually I've had amazing results with these from the unchoked Poly.  I was reliably hitting paper (not quite groups yet) at 200m (218y) with both these and the 27gr NSA slugs.  Couldn't be done without my adjustable mounts and the Baracuda's needed a lot more elevation but both were going where they're supposed to.

I shot most of the groups before it was light enough for the chrony to work,  so I actually shot that group around 1020 or so.
