Another one of my buddies is giving me a Daisy multi pump, this time it is a 856 that has been doing nothing except sitting in his closet for years.
A few questions.... The innards are like the 880 I think, so I assume the 880 frame and the new style stock would fit .. If I'm correct than I can make a bastardized 856/880 combo gun If I wanted for some reason ?
My house is very quickly filling up with Daisy multi pump stuff ;- )

Well my buddy gave me his old 856 today -- What a piece of "fudge" this thing is, but after 10 plus years the thing still holds air ;- ) The safety has no spring or ball detent, so depending on how you tilt the gun determines if the safety is on or off ..LOL, LOL.
I will oil it when I get home as I can see it is dry as a bone. No need to do major repair or anything as nothing is broken, just dusty as heck. Was told that this gun has been used and abused and shot lots of BB's through it. I will keep the iron sights, as no $ will be spent on this gun.
Upon opening the pump arm the compression tube looks very much like the Mod 35, so 35 parts may fit, I don't know ?

PS: Do any of you have a pdf parts diagram of a 856 ?

get schematics from Daisy on the 35 and 856 and compare part numbers. 856 may have been 35's predecessor ...?

I have a small pile of 856s, one of which pumps, holds, and shoots. The sheet metal frame on it flexes to the right when pumped up, and the barrel snaps back to center when the shot is released. It's very dramatic when focusing on the front sight while shooting. I'm interested to know if this is common with these, or if I have a special example.

Got my 856 for free from Jeff AKA Privateer.
Mine didn’t flex or do anything to weird. Once I figured it would work with the butt stock chopped for the kids, I gorilla glued the seams/screws and soda straw barrel to front sight.
My firstborn pulls the trigger with 2 fingers.
That said, if someone spent time to clean one up, recrown, find the right pellet... I bet it would make a decent rabbit/squirrel gun.

Daisy sent me a pdf of the 856 (that was fast)! They also said they have no parts :-( but they gave me list of airgun smiths that do..... ya right, I’m going to do that at grossly inflated prices :-)
My gun does not flex at all and holds air like champ.
I think my frame is plastic and I have no BB storage area on the side. I might add this gun I know has had no trigger work done and the trigger is pretty darn good ... MUCH better than my 880's !
I shot some pellets in putty and there is no sign the barrel is rifled.

I'll have to wait for yard sales in the Spring, and keep my eyes open! ;D

Yes, I'm telling my friends to be on the lookout, if they find a 880,856,35 or 901 .. even if its in bad shape buy it for $5-$10. I can fix it, or the parts can be used and will be cheaper than even buying from Daisy !
I mentioned that a few days ago when my buddy was going to a swap meet, but he did not see anything;- )
As a side note: Keep your eye out at the bigger retailers as they often want to dump stuff and do at very low prices. Walmart does this at times and also has very short sales that may last just a few hours to bring you in. They have done this a lot on fishing tackle I have purchased through them. They did this on an 880 for a few bucks less at $32.99 and it went up the next day to $37.99 on line ($35.99 in stores). I check Walmart on line at least once a day !

As a side bar, this is where I get my "O" Rings. They have every kind you can think of and their prices are good. Shipping at $6.00 is about the price of a couple hundred "O" rings, so you want to get them in every size for every gun that uses them.

The O-ring store has my endorsement too. They have them all including the quad type that are impossible to find at the hardware store. Also they are very helpful.
I needed U90-005 0-rings and when I checked the site there was a minimum order quantity of something like 3000. Thinking that this was in error I asked them about it.
Got a quick response that it was in fact the correct minimum but they pointed me to a same size Urethane cast material o-ring that could be ordered in small quantities.

Yes, they are very, very helpful. if you have different PCP or pumps that require O rings you can get a good amount and be set for may years. The Buna-N are some of the cheapest yet tough and not affected by oil. The urethane are tougher for sure so you may want to mix and match depending on the application.

Took the old 856 out to the desert this morning and shot a new Campbell's tin soup can at 25 yds.
She did pretty well, with 7 pumps using Crosman Piranhas she constantly went through one side of that heavy can. She has enough poop for starlings and HOSP at that yardage for sure, 3.5fpe - 4fpe as I remember, using CP Heavies would be better as the BC of the Crosman Premiers is MUCH better --- Nice ;- ) I was shooting this gun with factory iron sights and she was pretty accurate, enough for me playing around for sure. I do feel I need to "tape" the barrel, but having trouble removing the innards. Looking for a YT video after this post.
I took my 880 out also and she buzzed right through both sides of that can with 8 pumps ... I can hardly wait till she is modded a bit ;- )
The 880 had Geo's LDC and the 856 was stock ... yes Geo's LDC made the 880 a lot more quiet ;- )
I'm at the office waiting for some old 880 parts to arrive that I bought on ebay a while back .. in it is a 880 frame that will be used on the broken 880 I got from a co-worker early last week.

A good friend of mine who owns an army surplus store just gave me a nice 1st var. Cr 38C and a D 856. I'm way happier with the 38C but pleasantly surprised with the 856. Looks identical to the pics you posted here. Must be at least a dozen years old and pumped up just fine. Pretty accurate. Not going to replace my 822 for starling control but a fun plinker for sure.
