Title: Mold manufacturers
Post by: dv8eod on December 06, 2018, 11:12:04 PM
I've been scouring the web looking for a mold for my sniper. I've checked NOE, Accurate, Lyman, RCBS, Lee, Hornady, and SAECO. Is there any company that I might have missed?

Terry I know that NOE is supposed to be making a .45 pellet mold in the near future if you were talking about your Evanix Sniper ??? That's liable to be quite some time, they still haven't made any for the .22 Hunter's yet and that was supposedly the next one up.

Thanks, guys. This will be my homework for the weekend. NOE has been the only one to present enough information to ensure anything cast will fit in the mag.

Terry I think Bob is the one who design's all the molds for NOE airgun molds pretty much.  I'm pretty sure he posted a thread on the spec's that they'll be for the .45's, they should fit your mag being it's an Evanix I think because he asked about lengths of the mags on the more popular guns.

Here are the dimensions for the intended .45 cal NOE pellet mould....

(http://i378.photobucket.com/albums/oo221/rsterne/NOE%20Airgun%20Pellets/NOE%2045%20cal%20Magnum_zpscykndwkx.jpg) (http://s378.photobucket.com/user/rsterne/media/NOE%20Airgun%20Pellets/NOE%2045%20cal%20Magnum_zpscykndwkx.jpg.html)

The form tool would be made for the .452 cal pellet, and it could then be interpolated out to make the larger .457 version....

Thanks for the information, Bob. Any idea when it is to go into production? And how difficult to bring it in at .454? I've been looking for bullet molds that would fit the mag and come in at around 160-170gr, and NOE does have a SWC that would work. It looks alot like the AV 166gr but with a more truncated cone. I think, as I don't have one in front of me, that the AVs have 2 gas checks as opposed to NOEs one.
I should have a pot and ladle by the first week of Jan, and hope to have the target box cleaned out before this spring so that I can start casting. Unfortunately, there seems to be more work than time off in my future.

Pellets are extremely forgiving on bore diameter, because of the large difference between the head and skirt diameter, which in this big a pellet will be 0.010".... In reality, as long as the head is larger than the lands, it should fly just fine.... If the land diameter in your .454 cal barrel is less than 0.450", which would be typical, the smaller one should work great.... In fact, the smaller size may very well be all that NOE need to make, because the head diameter at 0.452" is larger than the lands in a .457 cal barrel (at 0.450") and the skirt at 0.462" is larger than the groove diameter.... In a .452 cal barrel, the head would still load fine, because it is not larger than the groove diameter....

We see this with .30 cal pellets, which are 0.300" head and 0.308" skirt working very well in barrels from 0.300" to 0.308" groove diameter, and with .25 cal pellets, which are 0.250" head and 0.257" skirt working great in barrels from 0.250" to 0.257" groove diameter.... As long as the head diameter is not smaller than the lands, and shows some engraving from the rifling, without being so large that the grooves scrape lead from the head.... that is all that seems necessary....

I would expect that the .45 cal pellets would be made after all the smaller moulds are done....

Epp/ug is a decent bullet for .45 Evanixes and fit in the magazine.
