ok,,, first let me say i made an error in another thread by calling my gun "gas" it was a lazy typo. here is my situation.
i just got an athlon argos but prior to buying it i asked the seller if it was AG rated BUT i totally neglected to be more specific in what type of AG. the seller said yes it was.
i ordered, and was so ecstatic when it came i put it in the "what did you receive/order today thread...." a few made comments that they would not put it on my gun. so i called athlon immediately and spoke with Greg..
I explained how prior to buying i asked about AG rated but i failed to specify type of AG, so i told him my make/model{stoeger atac s2 in .22). Greg said he was not familiar with that specific model. he then said how their scopes are .50cal bmg tested. i said this is not a bmg but rather an airgun that has different characteristics . i told him it was a gas ram, not a pcp or multi pump, and briefly explained what a gas ram was.
this is where it gets interesting..... he kinda mumbled/quickly STARTED to say it may not withstand double recoil of a springer, but then VERY quickly turned around and said we have a lifetime warranty and if the gun tears up the scope i can send it back no questions, and yes it may be a pain but they would send out new glass.
so i tell him i do not want to have to use any warranty AND IF it does get torn up i do not want you to ask well what gun was it on and i get told how it is not rated for a Gas ram AG and me left screwed.
so then he says .....we have only had a few scopes come back damaged from a few specific springer AG's and that it will be fine to use on my gas ram AG.
ok, so my overall impression of the conversation is
1) athlon is not sure if their scope will hold up
1(a)athlon states the scope is AG rated though
2) athlon will honor their warranty if my AG tears it up
3) greg was not very confident sounding in knowing what a gas ram was
so my dilema is this. I AM NOT IN THE MARKET TO BUY A PCP/PUMPER RIGHT NOW, so please do not suggest i just go out and spend on a pcp/pumper. i am looking but not currently in any position to spend more. i just spent what to me is a ton on glass.
i do not own another AG to simply use it on. i have ONE rifle. i know i can just leave it in a box until later down the road (6months-1year or so)i am ready to buy a pcp/pumper..but that still leaves me where i started and looking for better glass for my current AG.
i can just mount it and hope it lasts or if it does not, then return it and HOPE they will honor the no questions on what AG it was mounted ...
right now, i feel like calling athlon back today and getting some clarification on the AG rating and going from there.
i'd like to hear from actual athlon users that hopefully have them mounted on grt's or springers and how it has been holding up OR if any have inquired on the glass rating prior to buying and what they were told....

IMO use it , if it fails , tell them it was on a 50 BMG ;)

In the future, for clarification, you are shooting a spring piston airgun. That covers both gas strut and coil spring.

Ok so called back today armed (no pun) with info that PA and AGD both clearly state can handle double recoil of springers and Athalon conceded.so done deal.mounted and first 10 shots on 3" metal plinkers NO zero @ 24yds were spot on. I'll do paper tomorrow and get it dialed in.
Just was freaking out after comments and athlon suggesting MAY no hold to a double recoil.
