About ready to head out to breakfast, but just saw a video about ammo and lead BB's were mentioned. The Gamo brand (lead) to be exact, but Excite brand (copper coated lead) may also work !
Anyone here keep some lead BB's in the BB reservoir, as a back up to using pellets ?
To use a BB after you shoot a pellet you just tilt the gun and have it fall in the loading tray ... Seems like a heck of an idea for a fast close follow up shot as was noted on the video.
I also like the fact that the lead balls are in the pellet range as far as weight goes, offering more punch in a hunting situation.
Just a thought.

I did use gamo round ball in my .177 crosman pumper, only draw backs were that the magnet in the probe does not keep the bb from rolling out, and some lead shot was larger and needed some persuasion to advance in the reservoir. I did gain some modest accuracy though, and harder impact.

Though I know that most of us started with BBs at some point in our lives. I have fired enough of them to know they are a loose canon once the trigger is pulled. You just never know where they will end up. I find them a liability so I wont have them around. Especially since we have something like the modern pellet to shoot.

Anyone try the Dust Devil BB's yet?

Just ordered some Gamo lead BB's from Amazon, they will be here early next week as will the 4x32 Center Point Scope. I just hope the scope is not to big for the gun, if you know what I mean.
I'm excited about the lead BB idea, it makes for a fast close in emergency shot if I should need it while pesting ! The fact that lead BB's have some additional weight compared to a regular BB makes it a very doable alternative in a hunting situation.
We will see.

I did a post on them awhile back.
I found them to be no safer the normal BBs. They break bottles/ricochet just like steel balls, and cost alot more.
Tried them at normal BB gun velocities.

Haven’t tried gamo round balls in my 880, but the h&n round ball shoots great in it.
I did try some gamo rb’s in my 392 and they did very well in it.
The only problem I had running them through the reservoir in the 880 was as I was seating a ball with the bolt, the next one in the reservoir would get shaved a bit by the side of the bolt, affecting accuracy.... single loading gave the tightest groups.
I suppose when running them through the reservoir, you could lean the rifle over a bit so the next one in line isn’t trying to come out of the B.B. hole and doesn’t get shaved by the bolt. Thought about it, but haven’t tried it yet.

That is exactly what I plan on doing ;- )

I had some fun putting 3 at a time into the Talon and cranking up the power wheel. only good to about 18 yds then they spread vertically. But what a thump in .22. I think they were Lobo brand from 2008 or so. S M A C K !!!

Got these babies in today, Amazon shipping is just horrendous as these were packed loosely and one tin popped open ;- ) I looked at the BB,s and they seemed OK. When I do the mod on my 880 these will be installed in the gun for back up shots ... I think it is a pretty cool idea to have easy to load back up ammo at your ready.

Used to load the .22’s five at a time in my 1400 for jack-lighting around stock ponds.
Bullfrog Buckshot..

Well just tried it out and it works. With the lead BB,s so far they don't slide down the barrel, who knows another batch might..
Did not test for accuracy but to see if the idea is doable, and it is.
It is a little finicky to get the BB,s out and not get two out, but I need to work on the technique ..... I'll get that down for sure. I think this will be fine for close in (3-5 pumps) follow up shots in the 3-7 yard area, when another shot is needed because the first shot may not have completed its job.

Back in the day when I had my first 760 or variant of, I would stuff all kinds of experimental shot into it ::)
Mainly different size bird shots and pellets for a wad, many times I would have to break out the ram rod to clear the barrel . Last time it happened I couldn't even auger it out ,< way too much birdshot> I probed the amount of barrel I would have left if I cut it off, and ended up with a 10" sawed off 760. :o
I let my aunt shoot it off the porch, at the grainery barn, 100 + yards away, that little gun took out the window, left a definite :o hole size of a pellet too.
Have fun and shoot safe :)

This adaptation of lead BB,s instead of steel is for hunting only and with a real purpose. I very much like the fact that these lead BB,s are 8.13 gr (heavier then CPHP's, these round balls have some smack !
The following video is where I got the idea from (9 min into video) ... he produces some very informative 880 videos, I have learned a whole lot from this guy for sure !

The lead BB's should not roll out the barrel. They are pretty close to .177 to be scored by rifling......they are designed that way. Steel BB's are closer to .173-.175.

Yes, I have shot a few and they did not fall out of the barrel, they are absolutely perfect for this gun as a fast second shot at close range should I need it.
I'm getting this gun dialed in to have ~ 5 fpe at 35+ yds .. perfect for HOSP, Starling, Rats, Pigeon and the like. The lead BB's are just what the Dr ordered for solid back up shots as the weigh in at over 8gr's and have some serious smack, unlike steel BB's !!

Been shooting the lead balls, are they are pretty good for my intended purpose. 6 pumps gives me around 575ish fps and about 5 fpe at 10 yds and almost 4.0 fpe at 25 yds ---- blows the doors off any BB and is very close to a pellet ... perfect for a close range "Coup de Gras" shot ;- ) They shoot flat from 10 to 20 yards ... perfect. For my intended purpose of using lead BB's I don't want to spend the time pumping more than 6 times
I bought some more at Airgun Depot ..... Being that I really don't plan on using them much, the tins I bought should last a long time.
