Title: Austin TX Area Clubs?
Post by: Gunner1985 on November 23, 2018, 12:31:10 PM
Airgun newbie here,

Are there any established airgun clubs in the Austin area? It would be great to learn from some other folks, pest, etc. I'm still trying to turn my powder burner hunting buddies to air gun hunting, but so far no luck. Thanks

Hi Matt, Keeping this thread active because I would like to know where other people are shooting as well.  I am able to shoot on my property, but I am about 35+ miles NW of Austin.  I think Capital City gun club might offer an airgun format but I'm not sure about that.  Best of the West advertises paintball, and has pistol bays, but not airguns  that I am aware of.  McBrides may  have someone that may have some information, but I believe George Pena ( who has passed away) did most of the airgun work for them.  Thanks Mark

I'd like to know this too. Glad to see there are other Austin area members.

Boerne Shooting Club on Shooting Club Road.  There is a web site with contacts for the Field Target people.  We have a Field Target match once a month, third Saturday I believe.

Hi Folks,
Curious to know how many Air Gun shooters are within a 30 mile radius of the Capitol in Austin. Austin does not have in my humble opinion any solid options at a reasonable rate for Air Rifle shooting, camaraderie and competition.

Austin Rifle Club is an option however they seek an annual membership [fine] plus a $200 first year initiation fee. Inspecting the club dont know where the money goes but stands are not in good shape and there are limited bench rest facilities. Red's indoor ranges have a reputation, based on user reports, of being hard nosed snobs. Boerne has a shooting club but email to the president after 3 weeks revealed no response.

OK, so I am frustrated that there are no real locations to really enjoy what I think is an outstanding challenging and competitive sport apart from my back yard which is 20-yd max!

Awaiting incoming verbal fire, advice, suggestions etc for the folks that have air rifles in this local and are seeking similar facilities.
Thanks in advance for responses
Cheers
Red Dragon

I used to shoot at Best of the West in Liberty Hill but they had to shut down their rifle range due to complaints.  That really not worthy.
I'll probably go to Eagle Peak again one of these days for their 100 yard range.

Eagle Peak is okay I guess. It's the whole Austin area vibe.... Very subtley anti-anything-that-shoots imo

Same boat. Looking for other guys that shoot. Also just picked up a Gamo TC45, which is a bit too powerful for backyard plinking. Need a place to dial it in. My deer ranch is out in Fredericksburg, so too far for a week day shoot

I have ben shooting at a place about 10 minutes from Bee Cave. I was looking at Boerne but 4 hours on the road their and back is a lot. Maybe if work takes me to SA I will check them out but I just like to shoot and Im closer to Austin for now. Competition may not be my thing. I met this guy throgh another shooter. HIs place is private. He mostly works with wounded warriors. He has mountain bike/airgun biathlons. I went cause I herd he teaches long range rifle. We shot for a couple of hours and I shoulda had somebody like that show me around a rifle sooner. Wen we were finishing up he said air rifles are used a lot in his program and would I like to see the air range. Holy &^^&. There are 60+ lanes in deep woods. He makes parts and repairs airguns also. He made a hammer and put a tune on my marauder that helped it a bunch. I will try to talk him into posting here.

I've seen the postings for the MTB/Air biathalons, Didn't realize the guy had his own place. I'm an avid biker and shooter, so would LOVE to plink with him.

Resurrection because I think the forum notifies posters of a new post.  I am in north central Austin and have a couple thoughts about shooting in the area. The city leases land near Emma Long Park to the Austin Archery Club and land out on Decker Lake to the Capital City Clays range. Seems as though there ought to be an equal opportunity for airgunnners.

If anyone is interested in pursuing this idea, please email me at rodandhenry@yahoo.com or text me at 512-636-6601.

West Austin area events will be happening again when covid lets up. Field target course currently running 60 lanes (30 @ 12/20 ft lb and 30 @ 45 ft lb max) lots of different positions (not mostly sitting) including high angle shots, all in the shade of deep woods, combined mountain bike/shooting event, speed plate shooting (rifle and pistol), mini sniping, and field crossbow events. If you want to join in send email introducing yourself and shooting/competition experience to:  drygulcherledge@gmail.com

Hi - also very interested in this possibility! I live in NW Hills and have a buddy in Pflugerville who does PCP shooting with me. We also know another gentleman who shoots and hunts hogs off of Hwy 130. We went to the Boerne club back in Feb 2019. It is nice but too far to drive on a regular basis. Please provide a current update - thanks!

I'll bring this one back to the top as I'm new to the forum and just South of Jarrell...

Any updates on locations/events?

I am in Bastrop and fortunate enough to have enough land to shoot, on but it would be great to find something within a reasonable distance where like minds could get together and lob some pellets downrange.

In the hopes of finding more people. . .
I’m in Pflugerville, shoot a Gamo Coyote, and am a squirrel exterminator.
I had a neighbor who got me started, but he moved far far away. I can’t believe I am the only air rifle shooter here.
If you’re within 30 miles, please holler!
Thanks!
