Post by: trojanrb28 on November 18, 2018, 06:59:51 PM
Does an aftermarket airgun moderator require a tax stamp like the ones they make for firearms?

No Tax stamp required for Airgun Only LDC (Lead Dust Collector)

Short answer, No.

An airgun LDC/moderator does not fall under the same laws as a firearm moderator unless you're in a nanny state like New Jersey.   ::)

Here's the definitive case that talks about airgun devices and why ATF currently doesn't have authority over them:

Travis I figured that thread you posted about the LDC laws for airguns would be long and drawn out and basically it's exactly what I was thinking it would be.  Simply put it's not a firearm so it doesn't need a tax stamp!

Just don't ever try putting one of these on a regular firearm because you're liable to end up in the hospital or worse.

“I” thought the use of terms like moderator, silencer, etc., were verboten on the GTA.

“I” thought the use of terms like moderator, silencer, etc., were verboten on the GTA.

Discussion regarding silencers or sound suppressing devices is permitted. HOWEVER, the discussion or showing of "HOW TO" make removable report deadening devices is NOT allowed on GTA Forums!! THESE POSTS WILL BE DELETED!!!!!  Repeated violation of this rule by a member can be cause for banning.
Here is a reference link if you still don't understand why we limit show and tell discussion.

Thank you all for your input. The atf link in the forum rules gives the impression that's there is no distinction & they are treated the same. but the case law clearly states their is a difference mainly based on intended use.
