Title: Crosman Premier Hollow Point .22 for D34
Post by: SSG Grampo on November 16, 2018, 11:53:56 AM
Thinking about this rifle and I know Walmart has these pellets for $5 something per 500. I know their not going to out shoot the better brands but are they fairly accurate in .22 for the D34???? All of my rifles are in .177 so I have zero pellets in .22. CPHP would be easy and local to pick up if I get this rifle.

My 52 loves them, as do all my other airguns. I use them more than any other type of ammo for my casual daily shooting sessions with my son. They are cheap and easily available, clean and uniform, they perform as good as I can.

JSB exacts are the most accurate in my 52, but H&N domes and crow mags are so close it's negligible.
The crosmans are very close in group size at the range I shoot from, I can still hit the 550 cord holding some of my targets up at will with any of the above pellets.

At longer ranges the groups change a little more but nothing drastic and most of that is either me, or my scope.
The poi is virtually the same for all listed which is very convenient for me.

Now the H&N grizzlys not so good, all my springers dislike them and they group like a musket, same with the Winchester .22 pointed from walmart, they are a little more predictable but nothing compared to the crosmans or even gamo lead balls.

My son shoots a .177 xs-12, he has all different types of pellets as he is young and gets a kick out of the different rounds.
He uses all varieties of crosman pellets, the domes, hollow points, destroyers, and piranhas. They all have the same poi and all shoot very accurately. Even the daisy pointed do fine in his rifle.
But it does show a slight preference with the destroyers and the piranha pellets, both fly true and consistently.

I say they can't be beat for the price as a target shooting pellet, save the pricier lead for hunting or special occasions, unless you don't shoot 500rds a week like we do, then the price difference isn't as big a factor.

I only wish they made the CPHP in .25 and stocked them at my local WM.

As a side note, pick up some H&N Crow Magnums to try if you have t already. They are my favorite for plinking, really pack a wallop and will send a can flying. They are priced right and shoot great in everything I have tried them in.

Only one way to find out.  Seem to shoot at least o.k. in every gun I've ever owned.

I find the cp domes are better (though not as consistent as jsb,H&n )than the hps .Seems like one in  five is under size so I don’t trust them for hunting.

Crosman hollowpoints and domes never let me down.  If your gun likes em, should work well for hunting.  Fit may vary quite a bit, but they seem to fly to the same POI.

Bryan, MY M-14 (.177) likes CPHP's the best. and they are really accurate in this rifle. My 34P (.177) is becoming my favorite rifle, that's why i'm thinking about the .22 cal. I don't have anything in .22 cal. and could live with the CPHP to start with. Cabela's $229 special is very, very tempting.

I'm gonna be "that guy".

Don't buy the .22 model 34.

If you're gonna spend another $200, put it in some nice glass for that .177 34.

Just my opinion.

Heh, I was going to break the news that the $229 price is gone, which is what Cabela's told me on Wednesday. That they were sold out and discontinued. But I just checked their site, and it's back at $229! That's awesome.

It's not actually coming up when I search their site, but this link shows it available for me:
https://www.cabelas.com/product/RWS-Model-Scoped-Air-Rifle/742502.uts?slotId=0 (https://www.cabelas.com/product/RWS-Model-Scoped-Air-Rifle/742502.uts?slotId=0)

Since I thought the $229 deal was gone, I have a tuned Flying Dragon XS25 coming (34 clone), I'm hoping that it will be happy with the CPHP, since they are inexpensive, and readily available, as has been said. I'll have to check if our Walmart carries the Domed style.

The crosman domes are great, but don't discount the HP's.  They are the best pellet for many rifles, amd decemt in most.  Crosman hollowpoints are like the CCI standard velocity of the airgun world.  Cheap, accurate, available.

Well they certainly used to be, unfortunately their quality has tanked in recent years.

Granted, still better than most anything from Daisy or Gamo but a distant second to most RWS pellets, for example.  Really a shame that they were once so good whereas nowadays I tend to get better groups at 25-30 yards from a RWS wadcutter than a Crosman dome.
