Title: Newer to co2
Post by: Airgunner88 on November 15, 2018, 11:12:15 AM
Hi guys,

So I'm newer to co2 bb and pellet guns and wanted to ask you all something that I've heard multiple different views on, so I maintain the guns the right way.

So in the manual it says to run a lubricating  co2 cartridge through them to lube the internals after 10 cartridges, the pyramid air guy said to put pellgun oil on top of cartridges and it does the same thing. And I heard on youtube that putting the oil on the cartridges can mess up the seal.

I'd rather put the pellgun oil on the cartridges if it does the same thing because I'm tired of having to order those lube cartridges and I shoot ALOT.

What do you all do?

Pellgun oil or 30wt silicone shock oil as used in RC car shocks. For the price of one tube of Pellgun, you can get 10 times as much.
I use this - https://smile.amazon.com/Team-Losi-Silicone-Shock-Oil/dp/B00B4C853W/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1542297425&sr=8-5&keywords=30wt+rc+shock+oil

I bought a quart of Non Detergent SAE 30 motor oil and a squeeze bottle YEARS ago, I may never need to buy more.  I use a drop on the tip of every other to every fourth CO2 cart.

As a general rule I will put a drop on the top of the cartridge, or each cartridge if the gun uses 2 every time.  I think Tom Gaylord said it is pretty hard to put too much oil.

My MSP's get the same deal every time they are used they get oiled.

Agreed, a drop on the tip of each cart used is the general accepted rule.
Pelgun oil is the most common, as mentioned 10W non detergent (was recommended by Sheridan in the early years in the manual), I have even used ATF.

I've used Pellgun oil, 30 ND motor oil, and even Mac1 Secret Sauce.  Never tried transmission fluid...

Yes, non- detergent SAE 30wt, which you can buy from auto stores. Just get a liter and that will last you a lifetime.

Same lube for pumpers like the Crosman 1377/1322.

I put mine in a big syringe bereft of a hypodermic needle. 1 drop at the tip of a C02 powerlet is all you need.
