I'm just curious,
For those of us who originally purchased these rifles, and with the recent announcement by Dynamic Air Rifles (DAR) for the full recall of the "Gen 1" rifles,
Which one (of the 2 recall options) did you choose ?
Option 1- Request a RMA from Sportsmans Guide, and send your gun(s) back to Sportsmans Guide, (by December 1, 2018), for
a full refund .
OR, ...
Option 2- Request a RMA from DAR, and send the gun(s) back to DAR, (by December 1, 2018), to be put on a list for a
the upgraded replacement gun(s) once they arrive from the manufacturer. (at the promised No Additional Cost).
My group of shooting buddies and I chose Option 2.
(we purchased 5 of them in .25 cal), when they were first offered for sale by SG.
-
I contacted Aim direct since SG didn't offer these options when I returned mine. Fortunately, Aim is taking care of me, so I requested Option 2 on the .25 and took Option 1 for the .177.
-
I'm keeping all of mine Ron. ;D

Travis,
There were some manufacturing QC issues that became quickly apparent shortly after the DAR guns were released for sale.
Once it was determined the QC issues were affecting the overall majority of the rifles that were sold, the Manufacturer stepped up to the plate almost immediately and issued a full 100% recall, (including return shipping costs).
That recall provides owners 2 options as stated in my original post.
Sportsmans Guide has, (or is in the process),of notifying those people who had originally purchased the "Gen 1" guns.
-
This is the Recall Letter that was issued by DAR,
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear DAR customer,
We would like to once again apologize to those customers who purchased our Gen 1 Air Rifles. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen issues with our first production model we felt the responsible thing to do was a complete recall and subsequent redesign to correct the problems that plagued these rifles. Rest assured that our number one goal at DAR, is to provide superior performance and value in both our products and customer service. As stated in our initial recall letter the issues that plagued the 1st. Gen. rifles were air retention related only and did not affect the safety function of the guns in any way.
For those customers who have not yet availed themselves of the recall of all DAR Gen 1 Air Rifles (Calibers .177 .22 and .25) that were manufactured before September 2018, it is imperative that if you wish to do so you act now as the following two options are only available until Dec. 1st, 2018:
1. Full Refund - Contact the Authorized DAR Air Rifle Dealer that you purchased the rifle from, Sportsman’s Guide, for return instructions and a subsequent full refund. Please contact them as soon as possible to initiate the refund process to ensure that the transaction is completed before the Dec. 1st deadline.
2. "Trade-in Program"- DAR will work directly with you to take back your current Gen 1 model. Once we receive your rifle you will be put on a list for a replacement out of the first units of our new and improved 2nd Gen. models for the caliber (s) you traded-in. We anticipate that these new models will become available in the 1st quarter of 2019. This trade-up carries no additional cost to you. To take advantage of this option contact us at: RMA@aimsportsinc.com as soon as possible. To speed up the process, please be sure to include the following information in your initial email: Full Name, mailing address, contact E-mail, Phone number, Caliber and the serial number of your current 1st Gen. Air Rifle(s).
Please note: All rifles returned must be in the original condition (no modifications or alterations) with all the original parts and accessories included at time of purchase and must be postmarked before December 1st, 2018. As stated above this recall program is only valid until December 1st, 2018.
For the customer's who choose to keep their 1st Gen rifle(s) and continue to use and tinker with them please be advised that due to the recall all Gen I parts are no longer available. However, there will be New magazines for the 1st Gen. models available in the 1st quarter of 2019.
Once again we truly apologize for any inconveniences that you may have experienced and assure you that we are committed to providing you, our valued customer, the highest level of product, safety and service possible.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
Sincerely,
DAR Customer Service dept

I took Option #1 and sent back all three calibers that I bought.
My thoughts are that if and when the Gen 2 models come out, and spare magazines and parts are readily available, I will consider repurchasing them at that time - and probably will. I can't see the logic in gambling that the Gen 2 models will ever come out, as there really isn't any guarantee that they will? Option #2 simply doesn't make any sense at all to me?
I now have every dollar back that I initially spent for the guns and am only out my time, disappointment, and dreams of getting good Gen 1 guns in the first place. The three scopes and rings that I bought for the DAR's have already gone to other guns.
The refunded money has gone to purchase two Kral Mega Punchers and a BSA Buccaneer, all at bargain prices from AGD & PA. That refund cash helped me to not lose those sale purchases. If I had chosen Option #2, I would now have no guns and only a promise to send me 3 Gen 2 DAR's, when and if they ever become reality?
-
Any updates on this thread? Gen 2 out yet?
-
I've been looking forward to hearing something about these guns because I'd like to get a couple of magazines for one or more of mine ???
-
I guess I chose option three. I kept my gen 1 25.Been shooting great until last week. Will be digging into it again. This is the end of the first quarter of 2019. Any word on when gen 2 will be for sale?
-
Hmmm. This makes me WANT to buy a DAR. A recall notification like this says a lot about a company's commitment.
If I had one, I'd choose RMA Option 2 and deal directly with DAR. I abhor middleman warranty work.
-
Peter it sure would be handy to know which Chinese factory manufactured the DAR's because there just might be a slim chance that a person could order parts direct from them like we can direct from SPA. I haven't ordered anything direct from SPA in quite some time now but I'm sure they'd still do it.
-
When will they have new mags?
Took my 25 apart today and couldn’t find an obvious problem. Put it back together and got this shoot string. Anyone have an idea about the farts?

I ordered some things from SPA right after New Years- everything got here fine. Xulhi (Julie) followed up to make sure I got everything a-okay.

James
it looks like you have a dirty regulator
have you taken it apart and cleaned and replaced the O'rings ?
-
Dick,
Have not taken the regulator apart. Will be doing it now. Will be the first time taking one apart. Have replaced the out side orings before. Is it difficult to disassemble?
-
i haven't seen their proprietary internal regulator so do not know what is involved
but clean it first before you even think of taking it apart
and if you take it apart? take plenty of picts and make notes to make sure it goes back the same
dirty regulators can become sticky from moisture or even fine dust in the air from the source
good luck
-
Ok guys, here's what I know so far.
China has been very slow to get the Gen 2 out.
Various reasons have contributed to this.
It is going to be later than DAR expected
which is not what what DAR or we, wanted to hear.
BUT,
The Gen 2 IS going to happen.
A few days ago, I received the first prototype of the Gen 2 in .25 cal. I hope to be testing It this afternoon at my permission.
It appears to be greatly improved over the Gen 1 and has most (if not all) of the changes I requested to be made.
The Monoblock now has the standard sized dovetail so that typical scope rings will tighten correctly without the need to modify the rings.
The side lever cocking handle fits the monoblock much better with FAR LESS wobble. It feels much better now. (No it is not as sweet as a FX or Evanix, ... But it is not a $1000+ gun either).
The bolt probe is now stainless steel (?) rather than brass, so there should be no more problems with bent probe tips.
The Orings seem to be holding pressure at an acceptable level and do not appear to have any of that Teflon tape (?) wrapped in the Oring grooves. Hopefully it will continue to hold pressure and not have an unacceptable leak rate.
The pressure regulator has been changed to a completely different type to hopefully provide better consistency and lower ES.
The magazine is a different design that is more similar to a Evanix mag, rather than a Mrod type mag. It looks more sturdy and appears it will hold up better than the original mags that had a few issues with cracks developing in the clear covers.
I will let you know how it shoots within the next couple of days.
I do not know when the production guns will be available for retail sales, but hopefully their arrival will not be too terribly far in the future.
The DAR customer service rep is "Ralph" and questions or concerns should be directed to him at
Customerservice@dynamicairrifles.com
At this time, he does not know when the Gen 2 guns, (OR the Gen 2 magazines), will be available for sale. These are things that simply are not in his control.
So if you do contact him, and ask "When can I get more mags ?" or "When will the Gen 2 be available ?", or anything else that starts with "When ...?"
Then don't be disappointed or negative when he tells you that he does not know.
The man is just being honest with you. It is my understanding that a few people have been less than "pleasant" to deal with over this unfortunate issue with the Gen 1 guns, and there are even a couple of people who tried to take advantage of this by returning guns that were incomplete !
One guy even sent a gun back without the stock ! Another guy sent a gun back that looked like it was intentionally damaged.
It amazes me how some folks are so inconsiderate or will try to take advantage like that, even in a situation where the manufacturer stepped up to the plate, offered a total 100% recall, INCLUDING THE SHIPPING COSTS.
Simply amazing to me that people will do things like that.
I can not recall ANY TIME in the past,
OR,
ANY OTHER Manufacturer or Supplier
That has stepped up like DAR has.
I look forward to testing this first Gen 2 prototype, and I look forward to seeing future products coming from DAR. I feel they are a Stand up company that backs up their product.
What more could you ask for ?
Ralph has assured me that the customers who chose option 2 of the recall, Will be the first to know, when the Gen 2 guns (and the Gen 2 magazines) will be available for purchase.
So thats all I know for now.
-
Thanks Ron, all good news. Think I'll save my money for one in .25.
-
OPTION 2 FOR ME ! I miss my DAR.. With a little luck the Gen 2 will shoot at least as well as the G1
-
A few days ago, I received the first prototype of the Gen 2 in .25 cal. I hope to be testing It this afternoon at my permission.
Gonna get some wabbits at the Buck Buck Farm?
:D
-
Thank you, Ron
Now I have a 3rd option for my 25 cal selections............LOL
Have the funds and a finger just waiting to puss the button..........
Tia,
Don

Ok,
So I tested the G2 prototype today.
To say that I am impressed would be a serious understatement.
This $300ish dollar gun makes me look like I'm a halfway decent shooter.
Too bad I can't post pics straight from my phone.
I had to call in a local buddy and his wife to come shoot it to see if they got similar results.
... They did.
I'm packing up at the permission now, so you guys will have to wait for the results.
When I get home Ill download the pics and you can judge for yourselves.
I can't wait to see what it will do with a little tuning and TLC.
I'm quite pleased with the results so far.

ok so after battling with my 'puter acting up for the last few days, here's the pics for you to judge for yourselves
First pic is the string it shot straight out of the box.
It looks to me like the reg was jumping around a little bit and needed a little time to settle down.
After shooting that first string, I mounted a scope and set about zeroing it in, and just having some fun with it. I put around 100-150 pills down the tube and was getting pretty comfortable with it. The winds were mild with occasional periods of no wind at all.
I set up some targets at a measured 50 yds. and kept an eye on my windsock. When it was basically limp, I'd take my shot.
Looks to me like the regulator was settling in pretty well at this point.
.25 cal DAR Gen2 prototype, straight out of the box, No tinkering, No tuning, No adjusting,
(Ok, Yeah, I did clean the barrel before I started shooting it) but that's it.
3000 psi starting pressure, JSB 25.39, Shot straight out of the tin, No weighing or sorting pellets.
10 shots, 50 yds, no wind.
I was pretty much shocked at what it did ! The first 3 shots basically went through the same hole. I didnt even see the hole growing. Heck I was starting to think I was missing the target completely until the 4th shot the hole got a little bigger than the pellets ! WOW ! 5th and 6th shots the hole didnt change. 7th shot and 8th shot grew the hole a TINY bit, and 9th and 10th shots grew it to the triangle shape.
At this point I was pretty much in disbelief, and figured I needed to repeat it to believe, SOooo I said to myself, "Self,...lets do 20 more shots".
I refilled to 3000 psi, shot 10, refilled again and shot 10 more.
This is what it printed...
...(and I pulled the lower shot )
To say that I am happy with that, does not even describe it.
About that time, one of my buddies called me and asked if I was still at the permission. I said Yes, and would like him and his wife to come by and take some shots with it. it took them about 30 minutes to arrive, and the wind had picked up a bit. I'm guessing about 7 to 9 mph, judging from the wind sock being about half deployed. My buddy shot another 10 shots (left target) and then the wind stopped for a couple of minutes. His wife sat down behind the DAR G2 and fired 3 shots (right target), and stood up and said "Yeah, I'm done,... I want one of these Honey".
He replied with, "Well Dear, I think we're gonna have to get 2 of them, that way, I'll get to shoot once in a while too ! ! !"
He even tried to take out his wallet while still sitting behind the rifle, and I told him to forget that idea, because it ain't gonna happen ! LOL !
Soon after, the sun started getting low, so we packed it up to head back home.
I'm guessing that DAR will be pleased to hear my report. Hmmmm ? ? ?
Yep, it was a pretty good day.
-
Looks good. How did the magazine perform and is it interchangeable with the Gen 1's?
Anxious to find out the redesign difference between the Gen 1 and gen 2.

Ship me one today I’m ready.

Anxious to find out the redesign difference between the Gen 1 and gen 2.
The magazine performed perfectly and is interchangeable with the gen 1.
The dovetail, cocking handle, bolt probe issues have all been addressed. The regulator is a completely different design, and I THINK the Orings and Oring grooves are up to spec now. I will try to get some more pics posted in the next couple of days.
-
can we start pre-ordering?
-
Ron
Thank you for that report,
I just added the DAR to my 25 cal hunt..........
By any chance do you know what the bbl length is?
And how about a photo's of the BAD boy?
Thanks,
Don
-
And to think that just recently I swore off buying any more inexpensive air rifles. ::)
-
Ron
Any word on when shipping our rifles back to us will begin

Ron, thanks, that's good news for the Gen 1 keepers. I'm looking forward to purchase some magazines and a upgraded regulator.
-
Guys
For those of you that had or have a DAR 25 cal Ag,
what is the bbl length not including the shroud, and what is the inside depth of the mag,
looking for the total inside depth for pellet/slug length?
Thanks,
Don
-
The .25 cal barrel is 17-11/16" long.
The magazine will accommodate JSB heavies 33.95gr (0.348" long) but not Baracuda Match (0.390") by just a few thousandths. By loosening the screw in the magazine, I was almost able to find a spot where they would index and the magazine still fit in the receiver but it would occasionally hang. A little attention with a Dremel would do the trick I'm sure but I just single load them when I want to use them. It's horrifyingly accurate with the JSB heavies so I'm using those most of the time.
-
I'm looking forward to purchase some magazines and a upgraded regulator.
Bob, I was meaning to ask why you are looking to swap the regulator?
Is yours creeping? Mine was until I smoothed the mating surfaces of the regulator's valve seat on 600 -> 1200 -> 2000 grit against a piece of glass (flat surface). The first shot's velocity is now rock solid even after sitting idle for a week.
-
Jason
Thank you for that info, it helped me.........
The DAR bbl, 17.6" is shorter than the MRod bbl, 18.3", with the Gaunlet bbl being the longest so far at 23.5",
IMHO, which would make a little difference in down range ballistics, if all the pellet weights were shot at the same fps.
More info added to the tally list............getting closer to the button push time. LoL ;)
Tia,
Don

Actually, I have not had any problems with the regulator and I believe that I did polish the washers but if the regulator has been improved I may replace it. Overall I was impressed with the DAR so that is why I decided to keep it.
-
Ok guys, I'm sorry for taking so long to get back to this thread, but here's the latest update.
(Jason, thanks for answering Don's question on the barrel length).
As I understand it, a DAR QC rep has recently arrived at the Mfg facility to verify the G2 production run is in compliance with the requested upgrades and changes I have previously listed in this thread.
I also suggested 2 more changes to be made.
1- that a "Slot" be milled into the Fill Port Dust Cover, to allow the Dust Cover to be rotated for Fill Port Access, (rather than having removing it), to expose/access the Fill Port.
2- that the Fill Probe now be made of Stainless Steel, (rather than the current Brass Fill Probe), to prevent unnecessary "wear" or "witness marks" from the locking/retention balls, in the standard Foster Quick Disconnects we typically use with our Fill Rigs .
Providing that these Production Run Guns are now up to snuff, (and there are no new unexpected "Surprises"), the guns should be given the Green Light, and should be on the boat within the next 2 weeks, coming this way.
Average travel time from dock to dock is estimated 4 to 6 weeks
.
So yeah,... it looks like they aren't quite going to make (the originally anticipated arrival time of) "The end of the first 1/4", (end of March), 2019...as per the Recall Letter stated,
BUT, it DOES look like they are headed this way very soon.
Remember, I'm just the "messenger" here,
(so don't shoot the messenger please) ;) ;D ;D
and lastly, for this update, Here are a few pics that were previously requested.
I hope you all find this latest info helpful and satisfactory... and as always,... I will continue to provide more updates as I receive them.
These pics, are of the DAR .25 G2 Prototype and upgraded Magazine, that I have field tested last week.
So far,
I am very pleased with all the changes made per my suggestions.
The trigger group still does need a little "love and attention", but it is nothing that the average guy will find daunting or difficult to do.
Just your basic "polishing and lube tuning" (of the trigger group parts), that Most of us generally anticipate in a entry level PCP

Thanks a lot for that reply there Ron !!!
-
Now that is a nice looking piece of kit.
-
can we start pre-ordering?
Zeddy,
No, they are not taking any pre-orders.
They want to avoid any misunderstandings or typical complaints "Where's my stuff", or, "When will it arrive at my door step" (that we see all to often from end users/customers ) who generally assume there is a warehouse full of inventory.
When the guns arrive here, I have been assured that those who chose Option 2 of the recall letter will be the first to have them shipped,
Shortly after that,
(probably just a few days later) ,(I'm just Guessing here), they will be available for purchase through distributors / retailers.
DAR does not do straight retail sales.
-
Ron you are a gentleman and scholar for following through on this and keeping us informed and updated.
I hope that DAR reciprocates for all of your well spent efforts. Thanks again.
-
"they will be available for purchase through distributors / retailers." - any idea who mighit be lined up for sales?
-
Again THANKS Ron for your time and updates on these rifles ! Im looking forward to get mine back!

thanks Ron, it is great to hear all those that waited for recall will be taken care of first, i am willing to rely on the luck of the draw as soon as they are satisfied, for me that kind of CS is assurance

hate it when my response gets lost in the quote sorry guys

Ron
Thank you for the info and photo's of the DAR.
Questions for you,
What is the depth (inside) of the mag, for the total overall length of any pellets/slugs that can be used?
And what is the twist rate of the bbl?
I am looking forward to "There here, Guys" and if possible at what locations to buy from.
I have my rat hole funds built back up and waiting to push the button for a 25 cal. LoL
Thank you, for your time and trouble, it is greatly appreciated.
Don

First quarter of 2019 has come and gone. I still want two mags for my 1st gen 25. Wanting a gen 2.
Any word on a time frame when they will be available?

Both gun and mag look great. I hope the mags fit gen 1 and are available soon.
If the production guns shoot like yours I will be as happy as a pig in stink.
-
I just came back inside after shooting the .25 cal gen 1. Ten shots in a row on a dime-sized spinner at 43 yards with the JSB Heavies put a smile on my face...then the clouds opened up. I guess it’s coffee o’clock now.

Thanks Jason and Last Dog,
Just keep rubbing salt in the old wounds, ;) ;D
My "buy it now finger" has a bad twitch, right now, I want a 25 cal so bad, I can taste it,
I keep going back and forth between my choices of Gaunlet, DAR and Mrod models,
hoping the Dar will show up asap etc.
I know as soon as I buy one of the other models, the DAR's will show up the next day.........LoL

Haha, well if it’s any consolation I had to work for it. Dragged it kicking and screaming into the stable of accurate guns. But now that the job is done, it is sweet.
-
Thanks Jason
I hope, you are going to add the mod info to your other mod posts,
for those that Like to follow along behind, hint. ;)
It is a HARD decision to make for a good 25 cal.......

Hi Don, I was kinda late to the party but I did document everything in the “anybody ever heard of this rifle” thread. The good news is we pooled the GTA wisdom and it sounds like they’ve addressed everything in the gen 2. QC is always a wildcard at this price point so it remains to be seen if they can produce them in volume with consistent quality but they do appear to be taking it seriously so I’m optimistic.
-
Thanks Jason
I'll go find that post........
Tia,

Don, these two threads are a treasure trove for tuning and fixing the gen 1:

With that said, hopefully the gen 2 will render most of it irrelevant.

If the produ tion gen 2's come anything like the one I shot, the only thing they should need is a polish and lube job on the trigger.
I did explain to the DAR rep (before he left for China) about the trigger and sear being either stamped or waterer cut and the "record grooves" like ridges being what made the trigger feel crappy. I asked that the factory please at least sand/polish in the dire tion of trigger/sear travel to eliminate the "record groove" stickiness.
Maybe they will listen to that, maybe not, we'll see.

The thing that's really nice about all the 1st Gen DAR's is the ample adjustability you can get from them. They're the first guns I've bought you could crank up as far as you really need them without any heavy modifications.

You are correct. I liked everything about it, it's platform, adjustability, regulator and the fact that the hammer had a nylon sleeve to slide in so there was no galling. Lack of quality was it's falling so it can only get better. My DAR 25 is patiently waiting for it's new design Magazine.

Oh my...
Went long and plugged a ground squirrel at 100 yards with the .25 Gen 1 (rested on a boulder) yesterday. Crosman999 witnessed it.
-
Any word on the Gen 2 guns?? When they might become available? TIA
-
I've all but given up on hope for the DAR's, I too would like to get magazines for mine as well.
-
I sure could use a 25 mag for my gen 1 as well. Gen two seems to be going the hammer way.
-
With the failure to show on V2, have any of you who chose option 2 heard from ATI?
-
I talked to I think it was Joe on the first or second of June and he had no date when they would be ready arrrr i miss that rifle It is my favorite for starlings :)

Another month !! Anyone hear anything?
-
Last time that I seen the DAR Dana had one in a video that he was going to do testing on I guess. I watched it about 4 or 5 days ago.
-
Another month !! Anyone hear anything?
I have recently spoken with DAR/Aim Sports.
Several of the production model gen 2's are being field tested and evaluated starting this past weekend.
With the holiday weekend upon us, and people have plans with family and events, Evaluation results and reviews should be available within the next few weeks.
I will post an update when I have more info to share.
They were VERY slow in coming from the manufacturer in China. It has been quite frustrating to say the least.
The field testers chosen to do the evaluations are knowledgeable, experienced, respected members here on the GTA.
Once they complete their evaluations, and hopefully any "bugs" that are found can be worked out,
Then the guns will become available for purchase.
Those who chose to return their guns back in December of last year to wait for the Gen 2's will be the first guns shipped out.
-
Hey thanks for the update Ron !! Have a great day Mike
-
Great news. Thanks
-
This is the video that I seen showing the DAR as an example of guns that Dana has for review.

Any news?
-
Maybe the trade war is taken a toll on these companies. With the tariffs they may lose money on sales
-
Last I heard was the DAR gen twos were and being tested by gta members. That was early July. Any news? Don’t leave me hanging. What’s up?
-
Last fall was the last time that I used any of my DAR's, I did get out with the .25 today for the first time this year. I had forgotten just how much of a beast it is, plenty of power with 50fpe last that I checked. I didn't see any red squirrels today but I did shoot a couple chipmunks. I really do like the gun a lot and I think I'll take it back out tomorrow, it's loving my 26 grainers.

update on the DAR Gen 2 guns.
1500 guns, (500 each in .177, .22, and .25) have arrived from the manufacturer in China.
Yes, I have seen the shipment arrival.
After some very extensive testing by myself and several knowledgeable and respected shooters, we have collectively identified a few issues that DAR is having corrected before doing a public release.
DAR is committed to having these guns performing up to there full potential before releasing them to avoid having unhappy customers and excessive returns.
DAR is well aware that several people are wanting and waiting for the release of the Gen 2.
Once we have corrected the issues of concern,
the first guns to be released, will go out to those people who chose to return their guns (way back in December) to wait for the Gen 2 replacements.
Yes, this has taken much longer than anyone had expected,.... Including DAR.
The manufacturer in China has been quite slow to get the guns here in the time frame they had originally committed to.
Then, once they arrived here in the USA, (and were immediatly submitted to some rather extensive field testing), it was realized that these guns need a little more attention.
Trust me,
DAR is just as frustrated as everyone of us who have been waiting for them. Actually, they are MORE frustrated, considering the large amount of cash investment it took to get them here.
There ARE some FANTASTIC points about the gen 2's also., and I will provide more details to those in my next update...
... but right now today, the Arizona thermometers are only reading 90* today, (compared to the recent miserable 110* - 114*)we have been enduring for the past few weeks), so I am going to take advantage of this ** Cooler Weather **, and get some more trigger time in doing some more testing.
Cheers
I will update more as soon as possible.
-
Thanks Ron for the update !! Im excited to get my DAR back And appreciate the dedication to us customers !!!!
-
Thanks Ron for the update.
-
Thanks Ron for the update. No need to rush even though I have been waiting eagerly. But I would rather receive something that works great out of box rather than have to test my mod skills.
-

Guys,
First thing you've got to remember, is that this will be a $350 gun. We can't EXPECT IT to come straight out of the box and go put a spanking a $1000-$2000 gun. That's just not going to happen.
Second thing to remember is, that pretty much ALL Airguns, (yep, every single one of them commercially produced), can and will benefit, from a tune and attention from a knowledgeable, skilled, and experienced airgunsmith/tuner.
-
I don't want to buy another DAR I just want to buy some magazines, it's been a year now and still haven't gotten any spare mags yet.
-
I don't want to buy another DAR...
Wayne, don't you have all 3 calibers? Sounds like there isn't another for you to buy! ;D
-
Jason they actually promised us that we would be able to buy mags for them and it still hasn't happened yet, not only that I wouldn't even know where to order them from now because I'm sure that the original distributor isn't going to sell them anymore. I've been shooting my 25 cal recently and the thing is shooting just fantastic but what a pain in the butt to carry a tin of pellets with me to reload after 10 shots ???
-
Today I took my DAR177 out to the state land, shot it probably 7 times and still laser accurate but the poppet broke. I Gorilla Super glued it back together, gonna let it cure for 24 hours like required and give it a whirl after I do a little dress up in the drill press where it's glued. It broke right where the stem bottoms in it so the sealing surface is still in great shape. If it doesn't work I'll have to make a new one for it.
-
Ron, any new updates on the gen 2 dar. Thanks
-
I reassembled the clip for my .22 DAR yesterday, it does need to come back apart but it works by tapping on it for now, I need to sand down the glued part to get it to work better, I just put my chrony up too, should have tested it with my 19.6 grainers but at the time I didn't even think of it, I was doing a chrony test with my ATI Freedom which I put back together with great success this morning and it's ready for the field except I'll have to sight it in again. I had my DAR25 out yesterday and got a ground hog with it, it's the first Ghog I've gotten with it.

Ron, any new updates on the gen 2 dar. Thanks
No "new" news to report really.
We are just waiting on China to get their act together.
"supposedly" the parts I requested to be changed will be on a boat coming this way within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
So until they get here, ... we wait.
I have done some "massaging" to my Gen 2 test gun, and it is performing at a VERY impressive level.
Just need to get those touch-ups incorporated in the factory and we'll be ready to go.
These guns are quite impressive,
ESPECIALLY considering the class / pricepoint.
I was shooting the heads off of flies at 30 yds today, and dimes at 50 yds was not a difficult task either.
and here's a little teaser for you...
... I have made the arrangements, and intend to have an experienced shooter at EBR in October for the .22 50yd competitions.
He began practicing for that competition today,
using a Gen 2,
and we will be practicing heavily every week at Rio Salado,
right up to the competition.

It wasn't a real big one but I'll be going back to that same area soon, I'm going to do a stakeout in that area along with a lounge chair and refreshments as well. There's red squirrels in the area too and I think if the critters get use to me being there they might even get a little more bold. It's going to make a good pre big squirrel spot to keep me occupied until September 15th is here, that's when the big squirrel season is open.

I recently stopped by Ron's on my way home from California.
I can tell you his above statements are NOT BS in any way, shape, or form!
The Gun was a pleasure to shoot and I will own one in the future.
My best shooting AG is the Hatsan Nova but I can see the Gen 2 giving it a run for it's money at a way better price!
Thanks Ron for allowing me to shoot the DAR.

The Hatsan Nova is that good of a shooter?
Always curious about them. The turn off has been is the weight.
The DAR sounds like one to put on my short list.
-
The Nova I have I bought from Rocker1.
I have done 3/4 inch groups at 103 yards with it. It's a .25
It is a heavy gun but I only shoot from a bench so really doesn't bother me.
The DAR is much lighter and was a real pleasure to shoot.
-
I've heard a lot of good things about the Nova myself but it was a little too pricey for me. I like my DARs a lot and glad that I didn't let them go back for a refund even if they're not the second gen.
-
I had never shot the DAR until Ron called me and detoured me to his place on my way home.
I'd planned a whole different trip. So I spent a day with Ron and the DAR Gen 2.
Everything he tells you about this gun is spot on! It is a fantastic shooter that I can see doing great at 100 yards!
I did a nickel size group, 10 rounds, at 30 yards and that was after a "few" beers. ;D
I can see doing way better if Ron had not of lubed me up.
;)
-
Jeff I nailed a red squirrel in the head at 50 yards yesterday with my DAR25 and that's using my 26 grain cast pellets. The pellets I cast are just as accurate as the JSB 25.39's IMO.
-
The DAR is a fantastically accurate piece of kit for the price.
I can't wait to own one myself.
-
I can’t wait until someone does a head to head with the Liberty.
-
The DAR is a fantastically accurate piece of kit for the price.

The guns aren't a copy of anything either, they're about the easiest PCP I've ever had apart, they're the best inexpensive monoblock design that I've ever worked on, the hammer in them slides silky smooth inside of a polymer tube, they can be adjusted for gobs of power, they don't have the longest barrel in the world but they're unbelievably accurate and you can carry one of them around the woods all day long even with a heavy UTG scope on it. I have mine adjusted for 20 shots at 50fpe, I have shot it using my 34.5 grainers doing 65fpe but doing that I only get about 7-8 good shots on the reg.
-
This was a string I did with my .22 soon after I bought it.

-
Well guys it’s sept 22 and no dar gen 2.
Correction,
The gen 2's ARE here,... in the USA,...
... as I have clearly stated in previous posts.
They do have a couple of minor issues to be dealt with.
Myself, and several other respected shooters have been testing and working with them for a couple of months now with some VERY impressive results.
BUT,...
... in their CURRENT condition, ... They DO require a bit of "massaging" to get them to performing at their full potential.
That is what we want to see them doing straight from the manufacturer, and It IS achievable. Dealing with the manufacturer in China has been QUITE CHALLENGING to say the least.
The LAST THING that DAR wants, is to release them before they are fine tuned, and only performing at what the average guns (at this price point) will deliver.
They are far better than that, and they do not need to have another fiasco on their hands with customers getting sub-standard reliability and performance, resulting in complaints and excessive returns.
I litteraly have HUNDREDS of hours invested in this with zero compensation.
I know what these guns are capable of, and I see great potential for further development of advancing their future offerings.
DAR has placed a LOT of trust in my judgement, experience, and connections with highly knowledgeable, experienced, and skilled shooters who have also graciously contributed to getting these guns up to their full potential.
Just trying to "stir the pot" with comments like the above, accomplishes nothing.
Yes, there are 1500 Gen 2 DAR's in the warehouse waiting to be released.
I have seen and touched them myself.
We are trying to get the last few remaining issues addressed before I will tell DAR to start making them available to the public.
This has already cost them FAR MORE than the average consumer would care to realize or endure.
I respect DAR for realizing this and yet holding back on releasing them, when they are looking at a HUGE monetary investment in inventory, that is just sitting on a warehouse shelf right now.
I can tell you, that there WILL BE a Gen 2 DAR competing at next month's EBR. I personally will not be competing, due to I was too late to register, ... But I WILL be there with a couple of the guns that I have done some tuning and R&D work on.
I would also like to invite those shooters who were chosen to assist us in this effort to share their results from our collective efforts in developing the Gen 2.
So with that,
Jason, Dana, Terry, Steve, Jeff,
Please feel free to jump in here and let these folks know what you think about the progress we have made, and the performance we have been able to achieve with the DAR Gen 2 guns.
They will be released when they are ready.
-
Well I did not see any post that said there was any shipment of guns in the us. I did see that some were in the hands of good people being tested but have not seen any results posted anywhere.
Do not get me wrong. I appreciate all the work you and others are doing to get these out and correctly. Just know that dealing with importing goods from overseas is always interesting at least. Did it for over twenty years.
Ready and waiting .
-
I've been in the loop so to speak for awhile. No. I do not have a Gen 2 nor a Gen 1 DAR.
I can't speak about the Gen 1 but I can speak about the Gen 2 in a unique way.
Leaving California I got a call from Ron to stop by Mesa to shoot a Gen 2.
Mesa was not my plan as I headed back to Ohio but shoot a Gen 2, BBQ, beer? Mesa it was!
I knew the Gen 2's had arrived and the others mentioned had hands on so I wasn't going to pass my chance up.
By passing Ron meeting me in his underware and some time at a Hooters I'll give you my thoughts on the Gen 2.
I spent sometime shooting a worked over Gun. What they WANT to release. If they get just near that? It's a Gun I WILL own!
I couldn't find a thing I did not like about it but I had a few reservations.
I told Ron I could NOT say much about a worked over version having never fired a STOCK Gen 2.
Well Skippy pulled one out! That proved to me in just 5 shots YOU DO NOT WANT THE GEN 2 AS IS RIGHT NOW!
You want to wait for the improvements!! And you will be glad you did!
The improved will stack pellets at 30 easy. The way they are now? You'd be lucky to get 5 within an inch of each other at 30!
I'm waiting as I really want to take a good one out to 100!
-
Ron
Thank you for that info, I'll hold off buying an Aspen in 22/25 calibers, for now.
Questions for you if you don't mind, and if you can answer the questions,
Will all calibers be released/available at the same time, ie 17, 22 and 25 calibers?
"1500 in the warehouse" = 500 of each caliber?
Will you be able to buy extra mags?
Which reseller/retailer will handle these AR's?
Can you give the spec's for the Air guns/same as Gen 1?
Plastic or wood stocks?
Thank you,
Don
-
Ron, thanks for the update. My only question is who is going to be the USA distributor or is DAR going to selling then direct?
-
Thanks a lot for the update Ron !!! I too will be curious as to who is going to be distributing those guns myself. Hopefully whoever it is will also be selling the magazines for them also.
-
Thanks a lot Ron for your work and update, appreciated!
-
As Ron mentioned, I have been testing one of the gen 2 pre-releases.
I have one of the gen 1 in .25 cal that had experienced pretty much all of the common issues…O-ring extrusion, broken poppet, bad crown, creeping regulator, etc. so I had a pretty good idea of what to look for in the gen 2. I’m happy to say they have addressed pretty much all of the gen 1 shortcomings. I jotted down my observations as I went through it so I will pull those this evening and post an update.
Meanwhile I’ll make just a few comments about the sample from memory. Since I had a .25 cal, I asked to test a .22 cal to try something different. First off, it holds air! Yay! The new sidelever fits better and feels much nicer when cycled. The new magazine is all aluminum vs the plastic gen 1. It’s easy to load and rotates like butter. Out of the box it was producing about 30fpe with JSB 18.1gr with a very tight ES. That’s a good place to be in my experience but I wasn’t getting good groups after trying a variety of pellets. Inspecting the barrel carefully, I was pleased to see the workmanship was quite good. The poor crown I saw on the gen 1 was replaced with a nice uniform bevel. I also noticed the rifling profile was different…taller lands that are very well defined. I decided to try applying my usual barrel prep regimen and began another round of testing. No substantial improvement. Chopped and recrowned. No improvement. Applied a choke. No improvement. Removed about 1” from the end (the turned-down portion that accepts the shroud spacer) and crowned again. Still no joy. So I reached out and had them send a replacement barrel.
The replacement? It blew me away. Lots of sub-MoA groups with JSB 18.1gr and 15.9gr. Perhaps just as significant is that it shoots a lot of different pellets well. During this time frame, Ron confirmed the same thing with another sample so he went back to management and raised a red flag that the barrel issue would have to be addressed before they could be released. We also identified a couple of other details that needed to be sorted out. So in light of all the improvements, it was disappointing that the new shipment wasn’t quite ready for prime time, but at the same time I think it’s the right decision. If these things have the potential to perform at the same level as my sample, they are going to be a fierce competitor at this end of the price spectrum.
-
Thanks Jason
Good info..........
Question for you,
What is the rifling twist between the bad and good bbl?
Can you see the difference between those 2?
What is the overall bbl length?
Thank you,
Don
-
All I can say is it will be sad if my Gen 2 doesnt shoot as well as my Gen 1 22cal did. Man that thing was deadly on sparrows at 50 yards
-
Ron asked me if I wanted to try the Gen 2 in .177. I was glad to check it out after my experience with the Gen 1 in .25.
Yes, the magazines are a HUGE improvement. You guys will like them.
The gun holds air just fine.
They fixed the scope rail so your dovetails fit properly.
No issues with the side lever.
Out of the box, I didn't notice any changes in the trigger, but after working on it, I got it to break at 1 lb, 1.5 oz.
I had accuracy issues.
Here's a 5 shot group with JSB 10.3's at 25 meters:
And at 50 meters:
Then I tried some 7.33 AA Falcons at 25 meters:
Disappointing to say the least. Those pellets were lasers in the 1720 pistol I used to own.
I did notice that when removing the shroud to clean the barrel, it's not exactly straight. My thumb gauge shows that's pretty obvious when un-threading it.
So I tried shooting without the shroud and things didn't get much better at 25 meters:
Ideally I wanted to try my hand at Hunter Field Target competition if it was as accurate as the Gen1 ag's. But this one isn't ready for prime time, yet. Hopefully the importer will sort things out.
-
I get really great groups with my Gen1 .177, at 30 yards it's not hard at all to get a dime size group with JSB 13.43's, the gun is a laser.
-
I may be wrong in this speculation; but maybe they bought cheaper barrels so they could afford to upgrade the magazines.
-
I don't think so. The workmanship, metal finish, and even the rifling profile looked improved on the new barrel. But so much for looks :)
-
I think that the DAR is a great PCP AG with a lot of potential and great design features but it is still not, nor should we expect it to perform like a $1500.00 AG.
I love mine and can't wait for the release of the new designed magazine.
-

That's where I'm at too Bob, my .22 mag is basically not really usable out in the field because it was cracked so bad, the .177 is still fine and the .25 has a crack but it's still working flawlessly (I've shot the .25 the most out of all of them.)
-
From what I've been reading about the DAR, didn't buy one, and the Liberty, which I'm an owner of, when the DAR makes it's day-view it's going to seriously take the wind out of the sale of the Liberty. I'd be one to sell my Liberty to help fund the purchase of a DAR.
The Liberty will have it's work cut out to catch up to where the DAR will be when they become available.
Others may disagree but DAR is and looks to be a the one to watch given the effort to make things right with their Genll.
-
Matt the thing about the DAR's is they can be adjusted for some fantastic power without doing any physical modifications to the gun itself only adjusting the reg and hammer is really all you need. I had my .25 doing 65fpe 2 days after I bought it but I only got 8 shots on the reg like that, right now I'm getting well over 20 shots at 50fpe the way I have it adjusted now.
-
Had a chance to shoot Nervoustrigger's DAR Gen II .22 yesterday. Now that makes 3 different Gen II's I've had my hands on.
Jason had used his in a pesting the night before and wasn't sure how well the scope was adjusted.
It was also a scope I just had some problem seeing the reticles. Old eyes and road trip shakeys.
A couple shots from the butter smooth side lever and trigger work had me doing near hole in hole at 43 yards.
(Still want the chance to take one out to 75 or better yards!)
I can tell you you can hit a .25 pellet at 43 yards with Jason's .22!
As I has lining up on a group I had going a tiny lizard jumped on the target!
I quickly adjusted and brushed the trigger. Jason asked me what the heck was that as he had just scanned my target as something fell.
I told him it was a lizard and I'd just done a head shot on it!
;D
When I retrieved it I had taken off the area near the nose and it was still alive.
I put it out of pain and threw it in a bush.
That lizard was smaller then a Bic lighter is thick with a head about the size of a .25 pellet.
Given they solve the barrel issue with the Gen II I believe anyone can deal with the rough trigger if you get one.
I've had Disco's and Hatsan's with MUCH worse.
On the Magazines? Nice construction of good materials. Myself? I'd mark them so you get a visual of when you are empty.
A simple paint line you could do with some white paint so you don't dry fire.
-
TleVta,
I'd say from the groups you have a stock Gen II barrel as they are now.
There is the biggest issue. I can live with working on the trigger but that barrel has to go!

I did ALOT of barrel cleaning when I pulled it out of the box. And the only other work I've done on it is the trigger.

Ron
Any word yet? I have an itchy trigger finger...... ;)
-
I hope it’s soon because I’m having way too much fun with mine and I feel guilty to gloat about it.
I mean, just a little.
-
I sure do like mine Jason 8)
-
Had mine out the other day and it is still a pleasure to shoot.
While I had it out I noticed that I still had a 22 mag from my 22 that I sent back. It is well used but I think it is still functional. If someone wants it I would be glad to send it to them. Send me a pm if you want it. First come gets it.
-
Wayne has been moaning about his cracked 22 mag for a while now.
-
Hunter, just sent him a pm. It’s his if he wants it.
So to everyone else it’s gone to Wayne if he does not want it I will repost availability.
-
I've been watching this thread since the beginning, I certainly hope that all of you get the new version soon. I think that you have been more than patient.
It is a nice looking rifle.
-
Yes I would love to be able to get out and shoot my DAR22, the mag I have is pretty much junk and thanks a lot James for the offer because I can sure make good use of it.

How long have you DAR owners been waiting now?
-
I bought all three of my DAR's in the 2nd and 3rd week of 2018. Here's a chrony string I did with my DAR 25 probably the day after I got it.

WOW! I guess that it has been a long time. I have not shot mine is about 4 months and it is still fully charged.
I'm still patiently waiting for the upgrade and spare magazines.
James, that was very kind of you to send Wayne your magazine and I'm sure that he appreciates it.
-
Bob I meant to say the 3rd and 4th week of July 2018
-
Yesterday the mag came in the mail, the first thing I did was rob the scope from my DAR25 to put on my DAR22, then I did a 10 shot chrony string with it because it had been so long since I shot it I had forgotten where I had the gun adjusted. It is averaging 34fpe in high 800fps area, I then decided to head for the state land with it and get her sighted in, it took seven shots to get it where I wanted it, I then continued to a spot where I shot a fox squirrel the previous day and nailed a big male with it. After that I went back to where I was sitting when I shot the squirrel and was scanning the area through the scope (old UTG I bought a the airgun show a couple years ago for $20) and noticed a small tree at about 40 yards that had a tack stuck in it, 3rd shot at the tack and I nailed it, and the other two shots were really close.

Even though I have all three of the first gens it's going to be VERY tempting to buy the 2nd gen in .22 when they come out. Everything about these guns is great in my opinion, they're a really simple and easy to tinker with design. I love how smoothly the hammer slides inside the polymer tube in the receiver, the person that designed these guns originally did a great job.

+3 Wayne. Right on, that is the exactly the reason that I decided to keep mine.
-
I returned bth .177 and .25, I did not order .22 the first time as I have the Stormrider. But if it is really good I may order one .22 too.
-
I heard the DAR GenII .22 did better in the winds then a Evol .30 at EBR.
Waiting for a full report to back this info up.
-
Well actually, the Evol was the new " .22 mini Evol", ... But yes, the .22 DAR did score better in the 50 yd competition.
But in all fairness,
At the time of that particular shooting match,
The winds had picked up quite high, and it was all about reading the wind for all the shooters in the match.

Jeff all three of my DAR's are very accurate.
-
Wayne, got the pellets. Thanks again.
They are the best looking pellets that I have ever seen. I opened the tin and WOW. Had my freedom by the back door loaded some of your pellets in it, had 15.9 hades in it, stepped out side and took a quick free hand shot at an old target and bam the sound of the pellet hitting the target was about twice as loud as the hades. Hit half in half out of the bull on a berchwood Tracy 3 inch target @ 25 yds. So not only are they pretty but accurate as well. Plinked a little and all were dead on accurate. Stopped there because they are too good to waste on the freedom set up for low power shooting in backyard. Going to save and try them in my career ll.
Hopefully on some bushy tailed tree rats.
-
James I'm glad that you like them, I use the 19.6 grainers on Hi power in my Freedom, it's devastating on squirrels.
-
Interested in getting more magazines for my Gen1 .25. Wondering if the Kral Arms mag will fit?
-
I don't think they'll work Terry, I was looking around for something that would work myself but never had any luck. I'll be getting a couple for my .25 when they finally hit the market though.
-
Just finished mounting an Optima 8x32 scope in FX No Limit rings on the DAR Gen 2 .25
Maybe traveling thousands of miles just to shoot others attracted attention and I got sent one!
;D
Now I prefer the scope set up for reaching out to over 100 yards.
It was on my Nova .25 and that Gun will group at 100!
I've been hoping for MONTHS to have this chance and I have 7 full days off to play!

Any word when we may see our gen 2"s
-
Any word when we may see our gen 2"s
I have no knowledge of that. I was only asked to test the current versions.
I had the first chance in Arizona and shot a couple at 30 yards.
The second chance was in Mississippi. So I have a few thousand miles driving in to shoot others guns.
All thought great shooters? I still wasn't totally convinced since those guns were test guns and worked on.
That has all changed with the .25 I was sent to actually test on my home turf.
No mods. Straight out of the box as received. Not even cleaning the barrel! Just fill, load, and shoot!
Now I'm told any barrel issues have been fixed and the triggers will come with a factory polish!
The one I have does not have that factory polish but the trigger is better then a few MRods I've had so is not an issue for me at this time.
I filled the Gun to max pressure knowing it's regulated. I tried regs in my Hatsans and really didn't care for them.
I have a compressor so shot count don't mean much to me. But I will say this gun's regulator impressed me right off.
Just the sound of the JSB 25 gr hitting the target told me it was hitting hard! And I didn't wait long between shots.
It took me 5 shots to zero the Optima 8 - 32 set on 10 power at 30 yards. The last 5 rounds were near hole in hole.
I followed up with another magazine with 10 rounds and it could be covered with a quarter.
Shooting off a Caldwell dead shot I never think that's bad as it's not a super stable shooting platform.
Now I know my home range and my scopes. I pull up and adjust for a long range shot out to a beer can on a stick about 73 yards.
I use the hold over I know worked with the Hatsan Nova. Then pull the trigger.
I was not real confident I'd hit it with the 16 inch barrel to be honest.
Picture me surprised as that 1st shot spun the can around the stick!
I took a short break and then decided maybe that was a lucky shot. It happens.
I went back to try to repeat the shot. Wind flag said no wind so I aimed again.
AGAIN that can spun around the stick!
My whole goal to get my hands on the Gen 2 .25 was to do a NUAH target.
I will admit I was skeptical it could do it with the short barrel.
I'm pretty danged sure it will now!
-
Does anyone know if the Gen2's are choked or not?
Are any of the Beta testers shooting slugs in the Gen2?
-
They are not choked...neither the gen 1 nor the gen 2. I have not tried slugs but I will say the .177 or .22 cal would be a better platform than the .25 if you intend to keep the regulator. In .25 cal, the plenum is not big enough to make big power with heavy slugs.
Pretty much all my shooting is 70 yards or less and both the .22 and .25 I have are pinpoint accurate with JSB pellets. Many sub-MoA groups at my common target practice distance of 43 yards.
-
Thank you for the informative response. I'm interested in a .22 when they hit the market again. :D
-
I know I'll be trying some slugs soon.
As Jason stated, to make a good .25 slug shooter will probably require removal of the reg.
But that is for later.
-
I'm sure that several of us will be looking forward to your results.
Good luck with your testing.
-
I have had my DAR .25 doing about 8 regulated shots at 65fpe but without modifying the gun I'd say a person would be better off shooting heavy pellets through it. Right now mine is tuned for about 25 regulated shots using my cast NOE 26 grainers that are doing about 50fpe and it's extremely accurate at 50 yards with them. My cast pellets are a little longer than the 25.39 JSB's and out shoot them in this gun IMO.

I know this post is not going to be greeted with great reverence by some people but I am telling the truth and have a back up witness.
FX Streamline .25 compared to the DAR Gen 2 .25
I invited a friend to stop by just to catch up and spend a bit of time shooting. He checked out the DAR and had some really nice things to say about it.
After we shot that and a RS mini-carbine he pulled out his FX for me to shoot.
I'd never shot the gun before. Didn't even have a scope I like.
Granted the cocking and trigger were better (DAR has never been worked on) I found absolutely no difference in accuracy!
I took several shoots at a 25 yard target to get use to the scope. I was only bracing against the door frame and it was holes touching.
So I took a long shot. Now I did not adjust the AO so target was burry. Ting! I hit. No big deal I know my home range and hold over.
I decided for the beer can on a stick. Took a couple shots to get the windage down but I hit it.
Now.
Given I have just shot a very expensive gun that just duplicated what is a way cheaper and out of the box with no mods gun?
I'll leave that up to you to decide what you want to do.
I know some of my biggest Illusions were shattered today.

Jeff, this is why a lot of us decided to keep our DAR's.
-
Jeff all three of my DAR's are amazingly accurate. Right now I've got my .25 doing about 50fpe with my 26 grainers that I cast and at 50 yards they're just amazing in the accuracy department. These guns are about the easiest to work on that I've ever had experience with, an excellent design that gets the job done in a NICE lightweight package.

When the new DAR is finished and ready for the public does any one know if the mags will be interchangeable with the gen 1? Looking forward to getting a new 22 and wanting a couple of extra mags. Would also want a couple of 25 mags for my gen 1 .
-
James, it appears they will. I have a Gen1 .25 cal and a Gen 2 .22 cal. The different gen mags fit each gun, and I can take the .25 cal mag and load it with .22 cal pellets and it will work in the .22 cal rifle. I can't test the reverse scenario because of the bolt diameter, but unless I'm missing something subtle, it looks like you'll be able to use the new mags. They are very nice...all aluminum, easy to load, smooth rotation.

Very nice, I can't wait. Any clue on who the new Vendor will be?
-
I think AIM Sports is the importer. Don’t know if they will sell direct or thru dealers. I hope they will sell direct. They are a fine company and have been working hard to get gen 2 rifles just right .
-
I had hoped for a Christmas release but all is quiet here. I here any cause for hope?
-
Hope we will see them soon! Happy New Year every one!
-
Was wondering now that Shot Show is over if there has been any more info on the release date of the genII Dar's, You testers have any new word from Aim Sports?
-
Could someone with a DAR remind me what the problem was/is, other than this taking so long to get resolved?
Seriously, don't make me reread all of this thread to understand.
Yeah... I should know/remember, but my *short term* memory is not very good these days... (smile)
-
I wonder if Aim Sports was at Shot Show? If so they didn't seem to get any exposure here... Would have been interesting to see if they had the Gen 2 there and gotten some more info on them.

Mainly o-rings and some folks had issues with the poppets. Aim recalled them all and gave customers the option of a refund or a replacement when the new model was released.
-
There were three problems that I was aware of, 1 the regulator was poorly machined causing air to blow past the o-rings causing all the air to rush out the vent on the shroud, 2 the fit on the side lever was floppy loose causing many to shim the lever to remove the play, 3 the covers on the magazines were cracking mostly I think due to overtightened screws. All just general quality control issues. I personally also was having a hard time finding a pellet it really liked. I had returned mine for a full refund but would still entertain the Gen II.
-
I’ll attempt to separate them into what I consider to be fixes for quality problems versus enhancements/improvements.
Quality problems
1. O-ring extrusion failures on the regulator body. Easily solved in the Gen1 with a 90 durometer replacement but the symptom indicated the tolerances were not right (ordinarily a 70 durometer will hold 3000psi).
2. Broken poppets – The stem was prone to driving through the poppet, breaking it.
3. Broken magazines – As Tracker stated, probably due to simply overtightening the screw holding the cover.
4. Barrel workmanship – Bad crowns on some Gen1.
5. Undersized dovetail – Some 11mm mounts would not grip it properly.
6. Cocking pin – Could work itself loose. Just needed threadlocker and/or a dimple to prevent it.
Enhancements / improvements
1. Sidelever – Too much play in the Gen1 made it feel cheap.
2. Regulator – I have a sample size of just one Gen1 and one Gen2, but the former crept and the latter didn’t. The Gen1 I fixed by simply smoothing the valve seat.
3. Bolt – Changed from brass to stainless steel. Some folks managed to break the brass one, mostly while attempting to use slugs to the best of my knowledge.
4. Magazine – Redesigned from a molded plastic assembly to an aluminum assembly. The new one is very nice.
5. Trigger – Improve the surface finish of the parts for a smoother pull.
I’m sure I’m forgetting something but that should capture most of it.
-
Jason, that is a very good and accurate analysis of the basic problems and I always felt that they are all fixable and minor. That is the reason I decided to keep and enjoy mine
-
+1 what Jason said.
Returned my 22 and still using my 25 after replacing o-rings and shimming side lever. Down to using my last cracked mag. Will be happy 😊 when I can get a couple of the new and improved 25 mags and a gen two 22.
-
Any one heard from dar ? This has been quit a wait
-
??? I wonder too ???
-
Me too! Mine is still hold air and I can't recall the last time that I used it. It's a great gun for my grandson.
-
Me to, would like to know something been saving a place for a gen 2 22 for a long time now. I have seen posts about the new mags fit the old guns so I think some thing is happening. But what?????
-
This thread is now a year and a half old and all I hear are crickets!
Those of you who opted for an exchange - any word on status? Tied up your $ for a long time.
Time to move on I think - so what AG's have you found that might fill the DAR shoes? It has so many of the features I want, plus the out of box accuracy, and cost that makes it hard to duplicate.
So what are you shooting now?
-
I talked to Aim sports last week! They are waiting on barrels that are sitting in customs . As soon as they arrive they will be switched out and the guns will ship.. NO date was issued on the release of the barrels from customs. But on the bright side it sounds like the dove tail , leaking cocking leaver, magazine fill port and i may be missing a couple things that were addressed on the gen 2. Oh the gen 2 price will be higher
-
Now those semi-auto and automatic airguns looks interesting ...
-
If they already have good mags just WHY can't we buy them ???
-
I’m with Wayne. Who can we talk to to buy some mags????
-

I'm also looking to purchase some mags and I'm sure there are others that are also looking for some.

Any news on the delivery of the DARs? I am afraid the virus will do further damage

I have moved on to the Sentry 705 models, sounds like about the same options,
tired of waiting with no info coming from them................. :(

Any news on the delivery of the DARs? I am afraid the virus will do further damage
I spoke with them over the weekend.
There are actually 2 issues holding them up, that neither of which, are under Aim Sports control.
First, they (the guns and barrels) have been here, on our shore, in our port, for almost 3 months... but Customs is having some aort of issue with them, claiming that they are FIREARM barrels, and therefore under strict restrictions and regulations.
This is being addressed and Aim Sports is jumping through hoops with Customs trying to get that straightened out.
Second is this Corvid-19 mess that has quarantined many shipments/boatloads/containers coming from China. ESPECIALLY shipments originating from (or anywhere near ) the Wuhan area.
That's all I know right now.
If (when) I learn any more, I will share that info here.

How do you like it? Is it regulated?
I am looking at semi autos. I probably have too many guns and not shooting enough. Eventually I should just have maybe at most 3-5 guns and make them good.

Thanks Ron for an informed update. The custom issue is surprising. air guns needs barrels too, there must be some differences compare to firearm barrels. Maybe different rifling?
I am in no hurry as I have enough guns to shoot.
-
I guess there is nothing new on the DAR rifles. Probably will never get delivered given the current situation. Just checking

Ron.....maybe Air Sports should get the NRA behind them since these "air rifles" are being called "firearms".

I got it, thanks
I have confirmed and forwarded your info and will follow up with them tomorrow.

Big thanks, Ron!

Greg,
check your PM's

Ron, that is great news! Finally my two rifles are on the way, quality checked and accuracy tested. I am sure they will be my most accurate guns without spending a fortune!
Thanks Ron for your hard but wonderful work! This is not easy - first the recalls, then correcting manufacturing issues through many tests, then custom, then finally COVID-19. Frankly I thought the COVID-19 and trade war will make it impossible for the manufacturer to deliver. But luckily you made it through and now it is on the way. All of us who got the guns own a gratitude to you and the testers!
Well this could be a limited production collection for me, wish I also ordered a 0.22 in addition to the 0.17 and 0.25 I am receiving ;D
Thank you!
Greg
-
Finally received my two (0.177 and 0.25) new DAR rifles. Hope the other folks got their rifles too. Thanks Ron for tracking everything down and made it happen.
-
I ordered the DAR .25 Gen II this morning. I jumped on the 2020 promo code and got $20 off. Gun and 2 spare mags delivered for $319.
I expect the phone call tomorrow.
I just read all 10 pages of this thread and I cannot understand why, after all the waiting and waiting only one person responded that they received their Gen II. And not even one gave the proverbial thumbs up... or down.
I have very high hopes for this gun.... stay tuned for my experience.
How about this....
If you did receive a Gen II and began a thread elsewhere, maybe post a link here to you post so we can tie this in and get some closure on this, somewhat, bad experience.
-
I didn’t start a new link, but I have been contributing to others. I sent my 2 back to SG for a refund two years ago. I did get a call from Ryan and he honored the offer to sell me a Gen 2 at the price I originally paid the the Gen 1 and I took him up on the offer. I originally had a .177 and a .25 but opted for one in .22 this time because that’s primarily what I shoot. So far I have been very impressed with the improvements in this model over the last one.
