Title: Red Dot on a PCP?
Post by: Bowtieguy_66 on November 06, 2018, 03:56:40 PM
Hi,
I was looking at a 3-9x32 scope, but after mucho reading i am not needing this precise of aiming. The distance i will be shooting is 10 to 75 yds.

I was looking at 1-4x24 on youtube, then someone threw in that a red dot would be a lot easier than looking thru a scope.

But i am not sure if they will hold up ok, or if its even possible. Im looking at 2MOA from Primary Arms & Vortex. Thank you
Vargas

what are you putting it on?

i had a 3 dot red dot designed for crossbows on an airforce talon pistol,

worked fine, and with the extra aim points i could consistently hit a 4" steel plate out at 100yds.

i just prefer the precision offered by a scope.

I have two +- $20 reflex ones from Amazon on my CO2 pistol and my P17 pistol which has the whole upper half of the body as the cocking mechanism.  So far they are holding up fine and a pcp will be no more hard on them that either of my pistols.

At that price and some are less you can try it and see if you like it.  I have gotten several chipmunks at 10 -20 yds with my 30 year old .177 Crosman SSP- 250 CO2 pistol with a $17 reflex site.  I think you will like it.  until the battery dies.  Keep spares.

Will be going on a Hatsan AT44 .22.

I want a cheapy, but cant find one that is a 2MOA, they are mostly  5MOA for the cheaper ones.

I have them (red dot sights) on my Benjamin 392 and a Disco as well. They are my close range guns.

Decisions huh?

I watched a lot of reviews on youtube, and a lot of them hold up surprisingly well.

“704 tactical” cracks me up, he really smacks them around.

I’m seeing most of them having parallax in them, Vortex is claiming they have none, but they are quite a bit more $$$. The very good thing about them is:

“Lifetime. Unlimited. Unconditional. Vortex will repair or replace the product in the event it becomes damaged or defective. Absolutely free—no matter the cause! “

This along with their quality i think may be worth it in my opinion. And down the road if i need a magnifier i can get one.

Thoughts?

Steer clear of Vortex. We have seen a slew of them puke at two local ranges. Sure they have a warranty but that doesn’t help when you are without a sight for weeks. Primary arms are decent as is the Bushnell TRS-25.

Good advice. Thanks

I have been looking at Primary Arms right now, at their magnifiers, the magnifiers are the same $ if not more than the red dot. I think they would help with medium to long range.

I want to try just the red dot i think first, to see if it will be ok for the distance i will be shooting before i look at a magnifier.
