Title: is itr worth it??
Post by: Spark Master on November 04, 2018, 09:38:27 AM
I may be able to get , free, a scuba tank not used in 15 years. I believe they are stamped for time/length of service, like a propane tank, is it worth it? How does one get it recertified?

It may be gone before I get a reply but I had to ask. Thanks

It'll need Hydro tested.
Any dive shop would know where to do it, maybe even your local welding gas supplier or Fire Station can assist.

about $20-30 and good for 5 years if it passes.
I say snag it... price is right.

You need to make sure that it's at least a 3000psi tank. A 2640psi tank won't really give you much in the line of fills, even on a 2000psi gun like the Maximus.  If you have a 3000psi gun, a scuba tank might not be your best choice.

To visually inspect and hydrostatic test a scuba is $65 to $80 in the Dallas area.  Still that's pretty cheap. You still need the yoke and fill hose with the probe for your rifle.
Note that it may not pass, also note that some models cannot be recertified.
You still need a yoke and fill hose, and probe / adapter for your rifle.
