Hey, gang.
If any of you are interested, Mike will soon be getting some "new" (old stock) QB-89 bullpup springers.
These have been scarce on the ground, since the mfr (Shanghai/Industry) discontinued them a few years back.
I found this (uncopyrighted) pic on photobucket, just to give you an idea:

Give Mike a call if this tickles you. Details here: http://bestairgun.stores.yahoo.net/ (http://bestairgun.stores.yahoo.net/)

He is selling them for $30 bucks just as they are in the box.

I might just get one because they looks sooooooooooooo cool! What are the FPS on them?
Edit: Just looked it up, up to 600 FPS.

Whoa! I just saw this post! Sure seems to have that "quirky" factor that catches my eye. I think I'd better do some research on it. Probably has leather seals, one stage trigger, and a suggestion of optional ear plus! ;D. And I was getting close to having the price of a P-rod too. One step forward, two steps back. I'm expecting cole to bring me to my senses any minute now. :D
Oh, if I find any info on this little rube, I'll post it here. ;)
PS, Bart! Get out of my head man! Next thing I know you'll be spending my money for me! LOL!! ;D ;D
-
awwwwww it's only $30 you KNOW you NEED one.......hehehe i might pick one up. put a 30 dollar laser on it...it'll look ruff+tuff....hehehehe Bart

I'll keep looking. It seems there was a .22 version available at one time.
Bart!! cut it out, man. You know i'm weak. Where's cole?

Looks like he's in a few others heads...hehe I might pounce on this as well based on the difference factor.

Hey, Darryl, I knew you'd pop up on this thread :)
Yeah, I asked Mike to reserve one for me -- two, if he can come up with a .22!
Couldn't help myself - haha!
They are definitely weird guns. The loading tap is at the very back of the buttstock, just in front of the buttpad spacer -- it swings out for loading a single pellet; so... the barrel is pretty long, then.
More potential weirdness: I believe the piston moves toward the rear upon firing, but that is based on anecdotal info, I have no proof. Kinda makes sense, though, since the transfer port is located so far aft.
From the info I've found, it looks like an untuned QB-89 in really good shape can manage about 5.1 fpe. These have been warehoused for years, so they will probably need a little TLC...
Should be fun getting to know one. I'm looking forward to it.
Later,

What's the cost of shipping? If you order one don't forget to grab some pellets, I have read good things about Mikes pellets. And they are cheap!
-
I guess-timate the cost to be around $16.00 based on previous dealing with BestAir.
Cole, that loading port is as quirky as I've seen. I like it. I gutted a goat last night and read it's entrails. The message was to stay the course. I know. It could be a sham answer. After all, the goat didn't seem too happy! ;D Plus, I'm now wearing an aluminum foil cap to keep Bart out of my head! :D
(I'm still saving my meager funds for the Marauder pistol)
-
Hey, brady_
I was pretty pleasantly surprised with the Peak pellets I got from Mike (@Best Airgun). Definitely a big improvement over the Chinese pellets I knew just a few years ago. I found that most of my Daisy and/or Crosman pumpers love them. They've been good "break-in" pellets for several springers, too. And you're right: they are cheap :) I need some more, come to think of it; almost out of .177 Peaks.
Darryl_
You're cracking me up :)
So, how much 'til you can pay for the marauder pistol? Maybe if you spent less money on goats ... ?
On that subject, I grew up on a dairy goat (and hog) farm. We often sold kids (young goats ) to immigrant families - usually from Africa, nice people, gave really cool gifts to us kids (young people ) - who mostly wanted them for milk production. Occasionally, though, it was more for the kind of purpose you were hinting at. Yuk... that was traumatic... Hey, thanks for dredging up the memories, buddy! :)
-joel
-
Nice! But I like the feel of the cold, hard steel cocking lever against my cheek. With the QB-57...
Charles
-
Cole5169, an immigrant eliminated a goat in Rogers/Bentonville AR a few years back.
Only problem; he let it bleed-out into the street curb/drain.
Wow! What a stink that was (no pun intended).
Said he didn't know what the problem was.
Charles
-
Charles, :o :o :o put that weed-eater down! You know you don't know anything about machinery! ;D
Cole, I had a Rott that loved kids (humans), but it was hard to get them fresh! :D I'm close enough to the price of a P-rod now that it's just a matter of one or two more bank jobs...I mean savings withdrawals and I'm there. In fact I'm so close...(how close are you?).. that if we were talking proximity to the Sun I'd be gaseous matter by now. ;)
-
Darryl,
Well a "budget readjustment" at work has got me seriously thinking of cutting my "airgun fund" direct deposit back to zero for a few months, if not permanently...
We're taking a 7% payroll cut across the board, effective immediately.
I have been skimming roughly 5% of my net and depositing it to my separate account for my hobby.
The math is pretty clear, 7% >> 5%. Ouch...
So, I am not going to be buying a Marauder this year - sigh! I'm going to get a QB-89 or two from Mike, and then that will probably be it for the summer.
But it's not so bad. At least I don't have to sell off the collection to get by.
-joel
-
as always, Cole, slo-fo-th'-po. I feel ya.
-
Just order one, payment sent now comes the waiting LOL
-
I gotta quit hanging around this site, it could be as expensive as hanging around on the chainsaw site. :o
-
ok me thinks I may have to call Mike tomorrow and order one... for 30 bucks it will sure be hard to beat the cool factor lol
-
Looks very interesting. I did a QB 57 project once and this looks to be allot of fun. Would love to disect this one and see what I can make out of it...:)
-
Gene,I can just see one with one of your shrouds.Give it that bad ^&* assault rifle look.
-
Heads up.
Mike says they're going quick, fellas.
-
snagged one today :)
-
ran out of the first 20 today, have more on order and should be here in a week or so. I have been doing random testing and they seem to shoot nice, for best results a recrown may be in order. They do take awhile to settle in as they are still oily inside which is a good thing. Velocity is slightly below factory specs with normal pellets but I think will go up with use as the seal wears in...
-
I just got my QB89 today. :o :o :o :-\. Man that is the heaviest 7.7 lbs I ever lifted. The jury is still out on this. I will take Best Airs advice and tear it down and clean and relube it before I try to shoot it. It's so ugly it's cute.

yea I bought one for the sheer oddity of it... when I get it in I will tear it down and do a full tune.... custom guides and all.... if it shoots it shoots if not it will still be a fun little conversation peice :) and rare oddity
-
Got my qb-89 in today :) love it.... and if you cant hit what your aining at you can beat them to death with it.... MAN thats a heavy little guun... but it actualy balances out real nice.... wonder how long it will take the average person to realize it has an extendable butplate on it...(err well I guess I gave that secret away...)
trigger is definatly a direct sear setup LOL takes about 15 pounds to get it to break.... some cosmetic dings but for basicaly a "factory find" peice of hardware thats been sitting in a warehouse lost for who knows how long its actualy in really good shape LOL... honestly either I am deaf or its not nearly as loud as I thought it would be right up next to my face like that and it doesnt have much felt recoil either...
now as soon as I get a couple customer jobs off my bench I will have to tear this and my new (old) all metal IZH-61 down and do some tuning.....
thanks mike!! this thing is going to be a great little tin can killer!!
-
Hey, reports on the teardowns, I just had 4 show up today. I've never been into any Chinese gun and could use some help. It doesn't look too bad in the manual.
Tom
-
Yes post some pics on the teardown,I can't figure out how to take it apart.I've taken apart and tuned a lot of springers, but just can't figure how to remove it from the stock
-
Could one of you guys measure one. I need to know if its 30" or longer butt to crown. Thanks
Dave
-
to tear down....remove sight on top, replace screw in rear sight mount and pull up to remove base (clips over barrel), remove set screw under barrel cover and unscrew cover, use tool provided to remove hold down on front of barrel (holds trigger group on rifle if I remember right) remove pin for trigger, trigger group should come off, remove screw in bottom of the butt of the stock. remove rear butt pad and mount, It's been awhile but you should now be able to push the action out the back of the stock
-
I tried calling Best air today but got no answer. Is there a better time to call ? I gotta know if QB-89 is 30" or over to meet Michigan law.
Dave
-
27 inches with butt extended........
-
Thanks sir !
-
Do these come in .22 cal. ???
-
Yes they do come in .22. In fact the box says .177/.22
-
Are they available again yet ?
-
Don't know. Have not seen any
-
Mike said he should have another batch soon.Been thinking about getting another one.
-
When they come available I want two for sure !
-
Next batch should have shipped Friday, some will not be in factory boxes but are new rifles...
-
I haven't had a chance to really tear into mine yet.
Lots heavier than I expected, and all the weight is at the rear, better than being in front, though.
If I can ever figure out how to separate the action from the stock, I will attempt to remove the varnish, sand it down, maybe take some of the "plank" out of the pistol grip area, and apply a couple coats of bedliner.
Impressions so far, it's not a bad little shooter! Sights are too close -- to each other and to my eye -- so I may try out a red dot or a holo sight (still might be too close to my eye, though).
I noticed that the actual barrel ends about 4" down the outer barrel.
Cocking is stiff, trigger is a beast :) We'll see how it wears in over time.
And like I said, hopefully I can figure out how to disassemble it. Lots on my plate right now, though.
Thanks, Mike, for another toy :)

"Yes they do come in .22. In fact the box says .177/.22" If I had the box that would mean I have a rifle ha, but thanks for the info.
-
If you look on page 2 of this post, Mike explains how to remove the action from the stock.I'm thinking about sending mine back to Mike for a full tune.

It would probably be almost as cost effective to buy another one from Mike and have him tune it before he ships it. It will save on the shipping.

It's called a Senior Moment,I'm allowed those every once in a while. Good idea have to call Mike
-
I could not help myself and ordered the 89.
Just got two of these in today. Actually feels pretty good holding it to my shoulder. They are going to need some work before shooting, according to Mike. My biggest problem so far is they leave the scope rail loose and it gouged the crud outta the stock in shipping. it ain't purdy..
