Title: 220v yong heng need electrical guidance
Post by: Traum on October 13, 2018, 03:37:37 PM
bought the 220v yong heng a year ago and it's still going strong filling my guns multiple times a session no problems. Well I recently moved and my only 220v source is the newer 4 prong 4 wire dryer plug. I ordered a 110v yong but they sent me a 220 so I had to adapt the cord they sent. to a 3 prong dryer cord.

https://qq0u.app.link/e/ssIceu3TZQ can't get link to display sorry

the 3 wire is the compressor end the 4 is the plug I need

at my new house I don't have that I bought a 4 prong dryer cord only to realize it has 4 wires not 3 like the plug for the yong heng. Green, white, red and black.

So I don't know if there is a way to connect a 3 wire to a 4 or if I can just do red black white skip the ground and let the breaker handle any problems (I know probably not a good option)

I can't seem to find a 220v cord for the yong heng online.

Oh I also had 2 semi decent broken extension cords that were missing the female ends so I spliced them and the yong heng mickey mouse plug together but whenever I plugged the second cord in it would spark and throw the breaker. I was using 2 110v outlets on different breakers to try to get 220v.. any one been here.

I just got my new Taipan today and I just want to shoot the heck out of itND can't cause u don't want to use the rest of the air in it up so I can take a few shots when my scope comes if I haven't fixed this. I haven't bought a back up handpump yet and i have my new baby sitting in the corner begging for attention

Red and black are each 110 and white should be neutral. Green should be ground.

get the right wall plug and add it to your breaker box

I don't think I can add a beaker to the box because there Is only one spare slot open and I thought 220v takes a double 2 switch breaker .  second the dryer cord going to the wall has 4 wire the compressor cord has 3 the compressor cord only has white black green do I twist red and black together?

Your newer home has both a neutral (white) and a ground (green) ,both eventually go to the same place ,back to Mother Earth. Red and Black each carry 110v leg from separate sides of panel . Older 220v connections only used Green ground red and black; new code in your area is utilizing both Green ground and Nuetral white for redundant short/shock protection. Buy new plug end for the compressor to fit new outlet ,don't  connect anything to the neutral position in the four prong plug ,using existing wire on compressor.  DO NOT connect the red and black, they are separate 110v legs.  There are possibilities here that could hurt you or your compressor, a short visit by your local electrician could drastically reduce your potential for damage.

the 3 wire is the compressor end. The 4 is the plug I need. I bought a new 4 prong plug for the outlet and the only cord yong heng has is 3 wire. both cables shown in pic how do I connect the 2?

I'm certainly not an electrician but I've rewired a few outlets so I'll mention a couple of things.  First, be very careful with electricity.  It can be quite dangerous.  Looking at your reply #3 above, it seems you are saying your compressor cord has white/black/green colored wires only.  If this is the case then this doesn't seem to be wired to any matching US code.  You will have ONE ground and TWO hot legs (110v each) on the compressor cord.  Ground on the compressor would go to green on the 4 plug.  Hot legs on the compressor would go to red and black on the 4 plug.  The neutral on the 4 plug would not have to be used.  But which color is ground on the compressor seems uncertain in this case.  I would assume that GREEN is ground and both WHITE and BLACK are hot legs on the compressor but assuming can be dangerous.

Can you remove the cover and see if you can tell which wire is ground by the position on the motor itself?  Possibly 2 wires entering the motor and 1 grounded to external motor or chassis?  I would suggest getting a qualified electrician to try to help with this but they might not want to get involved with such.
